the team maps (2v2,3v3,4v4v) are pretty ok (except for the second 3v3) but i think the 1v1 maps just suck there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many rocks and WHYYY only 4 player maps. and at the first map they say its a rushing map where players dont rush????? come on blizzard.....
What would you ask of us?

Are you scared to macro? I think I'm the opposite, I want bigger maps than these. How can I swarm as Zerg without more bases. They do look pretty good in my opinion though.

I did not want to create a new thread for what im about to say but it does have to ladder pool updates. I am at a loss to why blizzard continues to shove the maps that they make into the ladder pool while leaving out many other very good maps. It was nice to see the GSL maps added in because it is what most people want to play.

Why not have an a la carte style menu of maps that you will play on ladder. Instead of only allowing you to pick certain maps to not play they should let you select the ones that you want to play. Along with this they could add a feature that is like a set of maps that are standard for a given community: like a GSL map set or MLG map set. So If I want to ladder and practice for a given tournament then I just select their maps set off I go. Many of these sets would overlap so it would not be hard to find games. With this kind of system it would give you far more information about the players than the current system does.

The only down side I could see is some people choose like Steppes of War, Slag Pits, Desert Oasis, etc.. and never play games. But this is only a loss for this player who is not playing relevant maps.

See, but the four player component hurts those maps imo. On half the spawns, you cannot take a third against someone. You have to either expand toward them or expand to an almost undefendable location. Some of these maps wouldn't be as bad if they were only two player with only cross spawns.

I feel the same way. I'd like to have an option of picking maps from a larger pool instead of the veto system. I'd like to practice tournament maps on ladder instead of wasting my time with creating custom games and finding opponents. I think it'd be too much to ask for seeing as they still haven't got rid of the autostart in public custom games...

You should look at those bases on those maps and realize that they aren't "macro" maps. Hard to get thirds normally transition into who's 2 base allin is stronger.

I really don't understand the rationale for needing to have "newbie friendly maps" in the master league pool. According to Browder you need to have some simpler maps for the bronze and silver players who are just learning the SC2 mechanics. OK, fine. How hard can it be to add in more advanced maps for more advanced leagues? I still haven't heard a reason for why that can't and won't be done.

Dude when I first started playing CS we played so many more maps than people do now. Now days its Dust_2 and office, and that's why I can't stand CS anymore.

This is one of my biggest problems with Brood War, too. Python Python Python Python Destination Python Python Python Destination Python Python Python.

I live in fear of the day TL determines the One True Map and that's all anyone plays.

Since this pops up every 2-3 pages:

even though you have a point, the TL-community has been REALLY good at calling out crappy maps. Slag pits and backdoor gulch have been denounced to be awful 1-2 days after their IMAGES were available. Pros have immediately started to critizise the very open natural of typhon peaks, and this exactly has proven to be a problem in many PvZ games. On the contrary, people have taken one glimpse at shakuras and "decided" that it will be an awsome map.

To be honest, I think the TL-community is competent enough to at least make a "probably good - probably bad" prognosis. And even if it may seem that Blizz maps are automaticly "hated" on while custom-made-maps are automaticly less critizised: I'd bet my sc2 key that if you let people vote on good maps that should be used on ladder without them knowing which were from Blizz and which custom-made, that the custom-made ones would win.

Just because your "score" will probably be worse on pebble than on your local course doesn't mean you wont enjoy the experience if you love golfing.

I have to say I LOVE this comparison, well done, Sir. Blizz should really take into account that even noobs might start to enjoy beautiful, carefully designed maps even if it means they aren't as succesful on them.

I remember the thread when Shakuras was being introduced and it was being trashed the same as these ones are.

the main thing they revamped was the backdoor rocks, which actually was not one of the main complaints when the map first came out. point being, its hard to tell how maps will be until they are actually played on

Fucking rocks hurt zerg more than any other base. When people FE we have to grab a quick third and make nothing but drones. However, there is no way to take a quick third and drone hard with rocks.

Can i just get 4 more vetos so i dont have to play any of these maps, while still not having to play the likes of slag pits. I dont know why bliz cant just take maps for the GSL and put those in, most of the community would enjoy being able to play on those maps. And most of the GSL/MLG maps dont just use destructible rocks to try and solve everything. I can only imagine want the bliz map team is like when they are designing a map

Mapmaker 1 "So how many expansions can we add rocks too"

Mapmaker 2 "At least 80% of them, also a lot of these ramps seem to be lacking rocks, I think we need to add"

Mapmaker 1 " Brilliant, you can never go wring with adding rocks"

XP

Maybe i am being to hard on the maps though, maybe i might enjoy them once i play them. Really dont think so though

The last 1v1 map and the first 2v2 map seem solid, but the others seem full of the same crap that people have been complaining about since release: too short of rush distances in certain positions, hard to take third bases, too many destructible rocks. As a zerg player, the third map has me especially worried. How exactly am I supposed to do anything in close positions on that? Why don't they add more GSL maps, maybe even without adding extra destructible rocks (tm)?

Do we know what maps they're taking out? Hopefully it's:
Backwater Gulch
Delta Quadrant (lol, I can't believe this is still in the map pool)
Slag Pits
Typhon Peaks

Well, I just hope I can thumbs down enough of these to only have to play one or two of the awful maps in the pool.

I seem to remember hearing that it's going to be scrap station, delta, slag, and backwater being removed. I don't have a source, but I think that's what they're doing.
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

Am i the only one that has a lot of macro games on delta quadrant? the backdoor base encourages macro/turtle games and also there are a lot of golds and other mains to expand. I find it more macro heavy than metalopolis or shattered and i almost always have >20 mins macro games on it.
