Why not have an a la carte style menu of maps that you will play on ladder. Instead of only allowing you to pick certain maps to not play they should let you select the ones that you want to play. Along with this they could add a feature that is like a set of maps that are standard for a given community: like a GSL map set or MLG map set. So If I want to ladder and practice for a given tournament then I just select their maps set off I go. Many of these sets would overlap so it would not be hard to find games. With this kind of system it would give you far more information about the players than the current system does. The only down side I could see is some people choose like Steppes of War, Slag Pits, Desert Oasis, etc.. and never play games. But this is only a loss for this player who is not playing relevant maps.

You have to either expand toward them or expand to an almost undefendable location. Some of these maps wouldn't be as bad if they were only two player with only cross spawns.

I am at a loss to why blizzard continues to shove the maps that they make into the ladder pool while leaving out many other very good maps. I'd like to practice tournament maps on ladder instead of wasting my time with creating custom games and finding opponents. I think it'd be too much to ask for seeing as they still haven't got rid of the autostart in public custom games...

Hard to get thirds normally transition into who's 2 base allin is stronger.

Slag pits and backdoor gulch have been denounced to be awful 1-2 days after their IMAGES were available. Pros have immediately started to critizise the very open natural of typhon peaks, and this exactly has proven to be a problem in many PvZ games. On the contrary, people have taken one glimpse at shakuras and "decided" that it will be an awsome map. To be honest, I think the TL-community is competent enough to at least make a "probably good - probably bad" prognosis. And even if it may seem that Blizz maps are automaticly "hated" on while custom-made-maps are automaticly less critizised: I'd bet my sc2 key that if you let people vote on good maps that should be used on ladder without them knowing which were from Blizz and which custom-made, that the custom-made ones would win. EDIT: I have to say I LOVE this comparison, well done, Sir. Blizz should really take into account that even noobs might start to enjoy beautiful, carefully designed maps even if it means they aren't as succesful on them. I remember the thread when Shakuras was being introduced and it was being trashed the same as these ones are.

Mapmaker 1 "So how many expansions can we add rocks too" Mapmaker 2 "At least 80% of them, also a lot of these ramps seem to be lacking rocks, I think we need to add" Mapmaker 1 " Brilliant, you can never go wring with adding rocks" XP Maybe i am being to hard on the maps though, maybe i might enjoy them once i play them. Really dont think so though

Do we know what maps they're taking out? Hopefully it's: Backwater Gulch Delta Quadrant (lol, I can't believe this is still in the map pool) Slag Pits Typhon Peaks Well, I just hope I can thumbs down enough of these to only have to play one or two of the awful maps in the pool.

As a zerg player, the third map has me especially worried. How exactly am I supposed to do anything in close positions on that? Why don't they add more GSL maps, maybe even without adding extra destructible rocks (tm)? Do we know what maps they're taking out? I seem to remember hearing that it's going to be scrap station, delta, slag, and backwater being removed. I don't have a source, but I think that's what they're doing.

I find it more macro heavy than metalopolis or shattered and i almost always have >20 mins macro games on it. As Toss/terran yes as a Zerg no
