I wonder how the're going to free up a spot in code S with the way the up and down groups work. I hope Gom will manage it as fairly as possible , I don't want koreans netizen to feel that foreigners are "stealing" their spots.
edit; By the way I'd like to say that I'm impressed by the way MLG is reacting to what happened in Dallas , it was a disaster but it looks like you doing everything to prevent this from ever happening again.I'm really looking forward to your next event, and I hope it will run smoothly.

The more you think about it, the more fucking incredible this news becomes. It completely changes GSL.

However this is fucking awesome and im sooooooo looking forward to MLG cbus Odds of those players coming are pretty low. I am suprised Bomber is actually going to be traveling during his first Code S Season.
But yay Bomber vs Foreigner!

Also the lineup is MMA, Bomber, Losira and Moon, those are inceribly good players. I'm very excited to see how they do against international competition. According to some posters here they should finish 1st-4th but I'm not so sure about that.

However this is fucking awesome and im sooooooo looking forward to MLG cbus Please read the MLG format changes. I did My point is that the koreans that gets invited to MLG should be the top #4 placment in Code S. Giving koreans even more ambition to reach a top 4 spot. I know that the distribution to which koreans get into which pool is based on points, i just think the invites should be the same Some posts ago, MLG staff hinted at various other players that were invited but it didn't work out due to scheduling problems. There could be tons of reasons why it didn't work out for one or the other player this time. Seeing this is one-time only before the new system kicks in, I don't consider this much of an issue. Where is the new system based on invites? Also GSL fixed the scheduling error making the "super tournament" take a break while MLG is on, giving every korean the ability to attend MLG if they so desired. So in simple words: They can invite whatever player they so desire to, i just think those invites should be based upon placement in GSL's and not fame.
I'm not entirely sure whether we are talking pass each other.
MLG Columbus: First time appearance of KR players via invites. Invites have been given out to a number of players, of which 4 of them resulted in present list of participating KR players. Reasons for other players not participating: partly unkown. Arbitrary? Yes. Huge deal? No, since it is one-time only.
After MLG Columbus: No invites. KR players will be seeded in MLG upon their finish in GSL.
So what exactly is the issue?

As a Korean player, to even get into Code A, you have to go through a series of grueling Code B qualifiers, which will offer a lot more competition than any MLG. However, any foreigner that places top THREE in a circuit tournament is fast-tracked into Code A? Foreigner privilege, I guess.
I'm not at all saying that I'm opposed to this collaboration. In fact, I think this is a great opportunity to encourage home-grown talent in the US since winning a local tournament might mean you have a shot at the GSL. It is just a little unfair to Koreans. As opposed to the previous four Code A invites that were given to foreigners for absolutely no other reason other than being "not Korean and available to participate"? A partnerships a partnership. Koreans want to see foreigners and the MLG wants foreigners to be available for their events. It's a fair trade even despite somewhat unfair changes to native Koreans. I would say MLG is almost the same as Code B, if not a bit harder. There are 256 players I believe in live events, not to mention there are championship pools. Naniwa proved that he himself was able to make it through. Other than that, it's a good deal, and many aspiring foreigners would love to take in on this opportunity. I hope KiWiKaKi is sent to Korea, he can really show them some stuff!
And as TT1 pointed out, MLG seeds like him feel slighted at Koreans just being invited into the top seeded groups without having to qualify or play the open bracket. Just as I'm sure some Koreans will feel it's unfair that foreigners take Korean Code A & S spots without having to go through normal process.
It works both ways and it's either totally fair or it's unfair in different ways to both parties. No single party is getting shafted.

This is absolutely, positively amazing. Just major props and kudos to GOM and MLG. You guys hit a home run on this one.

Amazing news

I don't know what to say! EPIC! I feel warm inside!

OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME! great to see korea and NA coming together to form these types of realtionships. Although i could see top 4 from MLG getting stomped in the GSL depending on who it is of course. Hopefully naniwa places top 4 again since he lost to road to korea tournament and wants to go there so much!
|
I bet they offer invites from the top of the field down, and the first 4 to accept get to go. Its hard enough to stay in code S without traveling around the world between matches, so its understandable that a lot of Koreans would prefer to stay in Korea to practice.
I can't wait for MLG Columbus, since I live in Columbus. The only thing that could make it any better would be if Brawl were still on the circuit!
Also, I think its completely fair. Being in GSL is about the equivalent of being a top 16 seed at MLG.
I think its fair to say that we have reached the point where for the first time, MLG isn't just a Halo league!

Awesome news. I assume this is the huge news SOTG was going to talk about.
|
This is awesome news for merging the communities a bit more. I wonder what selection procedure was used for the koreans though as it is a little weird that none of the real top accepted.
As for foreigners getting a spot in korea, I don't know if many will want to really. Having to live in korea makes it really hard and it is not like code A has good earnings, there is a reason Idra moved back even though he was still in code S.
Also who cares if this is fair? It is a given in ANY respectable sport that placement for tournaments isn't exactly fair. Tennis tournaments have wildcards, the host nation of the world cup is automatically qualified etc. Inviting players that may not have proven themselves to give a more representative player pool of the world is a good thing. If those players suck they don't win anyways... The players in the pools do have a much bigger shot of winning MLG but that is just a flaw of the MLG system which is a bit unfair and odd.

I don't think so (maybe it is). But from JP's tweet it sounded like it would affect him personally or something. Maybe this is it but just from jp's tweet doesn't sound like it

This is incredible news for esports, looking forward to fantastic games from MLG/GSL in the months ahead

Holy shit! Well done! Pretty sick MLG invitees too, well other then moon imo who isn't AS good, but still is good and obviously a legend

For the North American pros who are gonna complain about 4 Koreans seeded directly into the championship bracket....:
STEP YO GAME UP, SON!!!!!
The Koreans are better because they practice on average significantly more then non-korean "pros" and their practice schedule is much more rigid and strict.
Maybe NA "pro" players should follow a more strict and efficient practice schedule (of course there are those that do and they will be the successful players in the long run). The Koreans treat sc2 as a job, they take it seriously. Don't be scared, homie!
NA players get a bad rap, I hope they do well.

ROFL gg to anyone playing in MLG I don't think anyone has a chance now that Losira is in it
