My only problem with this is that i think that korean invites should be based on performance in the GSL and not "random invites". Lets say top #4 placement last GSL gets an invite to MLG

However this is fucking awesome and im sooooooo looking forward to MLG cbus

Please read the MLG format changes.

I did

My point is that the koreans that gets invited to MLG should be the top #4 placment in Code S. Giving koreans even more ambition to reach a top 4 spot.

I know that the distribution to which koreans get into which pool is based on points, i just think the invites should be the same

Some posts ago, MLG staff hinted at various other players that were invited but it didn't work out due to scheduling problems. There could be tons of reasons why it didn't work out for one or the other player this time.

Seeing this is one-time only before the new system kicks in, I don't consider this much of an issue.

Where is the new system based on invites?

Also GSL fixed the scheduling error making the "super tournament" take a break while MLG is on, giving every korean the ability to attend MLG if they so desired. So in simple words: They can invite whatever player they so desire to, i just think those invites should be based upon placement in GSL's and not fame.

I'm not entirely sure whether we are talking pass each other.

MLG Columbus:
First time appearance of KR players via invites. Invites have been given out to a number of players, of which 4 of them resulted in present list of participating KR players. Reasons for other players not participating: partly unkown. Arbitrary? Yes. Huge deal? No, since it is one-time only.

After MLG Columbus:
No invites. KR players will be seeded in MLG upon their finish in GSL.

So what exactly is the issue?

Oh then its me being confused. Sorry and thanks for explaining :D

This is amazing news.

I think some disgruntlement by the players in either league with respect to how the players from the "other" league get into "their "league is inevitable. They're just structured in different ways with different underlying competitive dynamics. The MLG tournaments are more open in that anyone can just walk in off the street and be champion in a weekend, whereas in GSL it takes longer. I don't really think of these is better or worse--they're just different.

Someone like TT1 feels cheated because the Koreans didn't have to slog through massive open brackets over one or more weekends, and some Koreans will likewise be annoyed that foreigners get to bypass their own competitive process.

I'm sure MLG and GOMTV wrestled with these issues when they decided how to do the exchange, and I think their proposed solution to it seems really good to me.

Game fucking on!!!!

The Koreans are better because they practice on average significantly more then non-korean "pros" and their practice schedule is much more rigid and strict.

Maybe NA "pro" players should follow a more strict and efficient practice schedule (of course there are those that do and they will be the successful players in the long run). The Koreans treat sc2 as a job, they take it seriously.
Don't be scared, homie!

NA players get a bad rap, I hope they do well.

Oh come on, don't make judgments before any results are out. We will have this shit storm anyway so don't fire it up even more.
If the Koreans do well, you might be right and if they do bad others will cry even more about the spots (and the same goes for GSL). So it would be best if you don't even start it.
In the end the truth lies in the booth.

I wonder if this means that IdrA might go back to Korea. What if a player doesn't want to compete in the GSL O.o This very well may be a possibility...

Maybe i'm just dumb

Edit: Also, now the MLG competition is going to be stacked even more! I am excite!!! Really happy that the bridge between Korea and the west is being established
SC:BW has a higher skill ceiling than SC2? SC 64 is where it's at brah.

The poor peoples who'll end in the Bomber's pool :D
I can see any top US or Euro pro taking games from Moon, perhaps from MMA, perhaps perhaps from Losira....but from Bomber, I can't see it happening. But this will be mega interesting to see the "real" level of idra, Naniwa and some other. (idra and nani are the 2 only that I can think, on top of my head, having a chance, with Select as I type that)
But anyway this is amazing news, those tourneys will be spiced up for sure and suddenly are a lot more interesting. I'd like to understand the qualification process a little more clearly for Koreans tho.

That's what so awesome about this. Seeing who wins out in a legit live setting will be soooooo interesting to see.

I'm reaaaallllyyyyyyy curious what the Korean netizen reactions to this are. I think foreigners generally respect the Koreans play, and can understand them being seeded into the championship brackets, but what do the Koreans feel about foreigners being seeded into Code A or the winner going straight into code S?
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

I understand this concern, but as far as MLG winners go, we have nani, huk, idra, jinro, kiwikaki...all these names won't be ridiculous in code A (even code S). It's like GSL has now 4 spot reserved for a code B USA qualifier, in fact it's exactly this.
Foreigners who go to code A will either lose in ro32 or ro16 then go back to USA or Europe (so they'll only stay one or two weeks in korea, or more if they want), or go to ro8 or better and have a shot to code S to enter the real GSL circuit by their own (so they'll be able to stay at least a month, but their results will pay for this). I guess the winner of MLG who goes to code S will either qualify for ro16 and can stay in korea, or lose then be replaced by the next MLG winner without dropping to code A (so he'll get out of GSL directly)

In fact now that I think about it it is very smart and everything lines up perfectly for players and tourney organizers.

Well the big picture for the korean side of this is most likely establishing themselves on the foreigner scene. As you know GSL is the only thing they have to compete in, the more tournaments down the line the better. If it keeps growing it benefits everyone, both foreigner and korean.

This is a huge partnership of sorts that seems like a win win situation for most people.

And now i can talk about it... Thank you to my counter-parts at GSL and Blizzard for helping to make this great relationship come together. Just the beginning of many great things coming into Columbus!

Great, great news. Note that placing well at MLG now means you can earn a spot for an all expense paid trip to compete at GSL in Korea for a MONTH.

Fucking groundbreaking omg...

Fantastic news! Hope it's only the beginning of a major trend towards less segregated esports communities. (cough-kespa-cough)
