I think it's still 180. When I was looking at profiles I didn't see anyone above 180, and I still don't now. So, it seems you only have one week to play your games or you get ejected.

Harsh. But I guess the fact that you can simply insta-quit all your ladder games to stay in GM makes up for it.

In my self-sacrifice for the common good, I have started my quest for demotion to silver. Here are the statistics so far:
47 games, 15 wins, 32 losses. Opponents: 3 unranked, 2 bronze, 3 silver, 36 gold and 3 platinum. There has been no change in my opponents league whatsoever.

I'm going to give this experiment up, because I'm actually unable to get demoted. Here are the results so far:

http://www.lysator.liu.se/~john/experiment.png

The red dots (left axis) represent my opponents league. The blue line (right axis) shows my win - loss difference. If I lose more than I win it will go down. The vertical green lines show my promotions to silver and gold. There are no games missing in this graph: Every game from the start of HotS is there.

Common wisdom says that promptions should have no direct effect on my opponents league, but as we can see that is not the case here. It changed literally the exact moment I was promoted.

After 150 games where I have consistently lost more than I've won I'm still in gold. Furthermore, my opponents are spread out over bronze, silver and gold. I haven't got a clue about what league my MMR is in anymore. I wanted to see what happened if I got down to silver again, but I don't know what I have to do to get demoted. Also, it's starting to get somewhat boring.

After playing normally for a while the graph now looks like this:
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~john/experiment2.png

What I noted was that I very quickly was back to playing people at my own strength again. It seems that losing a lot had little effect on my MMR, and that's also what it felt like. That would also explain why I couldn't get demoted. I have no idea why the system behaves like this though. It's a mystery. MMR-stats isn't much help either:
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~john/mmr.png
It's very confused, but that's maybe understandable if MMR gain/loss per game isn't as expected.

According to this ranking site http://nios.kr/ , masters league is the top approximately 6% of players.

Yeah.. I really think they changed master league somehow, it seems like a lot of people that used to be diamond for a long time are all making master now.

The arguments against it is that you can't rely on site like that because blizzard count only the active player base but the thing is, when you look at the diamond division % it's also a lot lower than it should be. I really hope they didn't make master league a joke like it seems to be now.

Actually, my argument is that you can't rely on sites like that because they tend to bias their sampling toward players in higher leagues (since you'll usually only see people looking up someone else's data for GM and Master league players.) So, on sc2ranks, for example, GM and Master players' accounts are refreshed far more often than accounts for lower leagues, and are thus overrepresented for a while at the start of the season.

Plus, it screws up interpreting data filtered by recent activity, since it's impossible for someone whose account was sampled a month ago to be active in the last week.

It's possible master league is too large, but the impact of this sampling behavior is significant, to the point that it dominates activity-filtered queries.

I think that might be true for sc2ranks but nios.kr update every single profile no matter the league every 10 minutes or so. That's why a lot of people use that site now, it updates every profile even if you don't visit them. I was refering to the nios data in my post which is at 6.89% for master and 10.97% for diamond right now (very up to date in terms of refresh). Master is unbelievably high and diamond way too low.

Is nios.kr only doing this for the KR region? I was under the impression that sc2ranks was doing it because they'd been threatened with having their access cut off entirely by Blizzard if they generated too much database load with their profile scraping.

I asked Nios in a PM but he hasn't responded yet. I think he's just querying every profile individually but I'm not sure. If he is, maybe he can find out what the bonus pool activity threshold is =)

I was plat league and was matched always against diamond and a few masters. So i tried leaving the league (with this button) to get 5 new placement matches to see if i can manage to be placed into diamond. (Just for fun and testing)

So my placemnt matches were against 2 masters and 3 diamond players of which i was able to win one game vs master and one vs diamond. So in total 3 loss and 2 wins.

And what league did i get into? Gold! :-( ???

I dont get this system!?

First game i play in gold league: vs master again!? I really dont get this!?

Is the system just completly unsure about where to put me and fits me in the middle of the player base!?

Every game I play, it's againt diamond platinum or gold and I'm high master and winning like +2 pts and -20 pts and more for

loss. How can we enjoy this game with this poor system ladder. I understand how the system work, I don't want explanation

about it, there alot of explanation in beginning of this thread but can we just say this system is very poor? The worst I ever

seen, by far...

Does anyone know what happens with GM bonus pool after a loss, does it deplete like in other ladders ? What I'm getting at is, previously you could theoretically drop out of GM because you've lost every single game and your bonus pool accumulated over 180, but what about now ? Can you still get kicked that way ?

Losing games uses your bonus pool, so you can't be kicked out of the Grand Master league for losing games. As long as you play games (no matter if you win or lose), you'll be able to stay in GM. You get 180 bonus pool in a week now.

And for pretty much anyone else, you're the first one I saw complain about Sc2 matchmaking. You think its worse than any shooters that match you against random people with level based on how much you play that doesn't mean anything at all?

I found the opening post here so interesting.

I have a quick question. I recently switched from Zerg to Protoss and started with 5 placements. Placed into bronze, went to silver, then to gold.

As soon as I got to gold I went on a losing streak and it seemed like I was very outclassed.

So: According to the OP I should only have been promoted to gold after my MMR had been stable in the gold region for a period of time. Meaning that my feeling of being outclassed suddenly must be psychological?

I hope this is an ok thing to ask in this thread.
