It's amazing how Serral essentially never complains or makes excuses, and how realistic and balanced his judgments are. For instance, zero beating around the bush that Clem is just mechanically faster than him, requiring him to beat Clem mainly at the strategic level or in terms of preparation. Also it's actually insane that Serral's normal practicing schedule is just 3-4 hours per day, and that even ahead of World Championships he does not practice for more than 6 hours a day.

Tbh I think everyone practices a lot less now. At least in terms of ladder activity top players have a lot less games then years ago, to the point that top players regularly complain about the ladder being dead. Makes sense though with the current state of the scene

Makes no excuses or balance complains. Whereas other pros always tries to sneak in some short of balance whine when during their interview. HM to TY and Stats who were the kings of going into a long balance rant in their interview lol

This isn't that uncommon in sports and competitions across the board. There's a misconception that more = better when it comes to practice, but it's actually more important to have your practice mimic and reinforce the settings and context of the competition. It's not that pros that grind 15 ladder sessions from their messy ass bedroom are going to play worse (plenty of champions have done this). It's more than it's not clear that there is a ton of additional value added to grinding so long and hard compared to a more targeted approach to build prep and testing and custom games with players that can mimic the play style of your opponent (in a prep/GSL-style tourney). For weekenders, grinding is probably more helpful, but even so there's always a risk that you'll learn the wrong lessons, especially in the closing hours of your session. Humans just don't have the cognitive capacity to perform at a high level more than a few hours a day. I regularly work 15 hour days and find that the utility of the final hours drops pretty sharply.
