If not yet fully confirmed, I can now 100% confirm that 180 bonus pts is still the right amount to get kicked out of GM.
What I would really like to know is how are points after promotion/demotion determined now, since we get twice as much as used to and can lose them.
If I lose 20 games in row, "spending" 300 bonus pts, will I be demoted and placed with 373 points? Or 73 points and 300 bonus pool? Or........?

That's a good question. I think you still keep the amount "spent" and not necessarily the amount "won".

Well I know this sounds pathetic but I have made top 8 in my Bronze division which gives me hope that if I keep working hard(still have a lot to learn), I might get a promotion soon.
Thing that brings me here is the match I won that got me there from around 12th, I was paired against a Master league player. I was in the Ranked 1v1 and I know that sometimes it will match you to unranked players, but kinda odd to me.
I watch the replay and look at it on GGtracker(Match Link) and would this just be a case of someone who leveled their account?

Probably off racing on unranked ladder and his MMR was low. Hence why he played you, could be he let someone else play his account on unranked only and they are at your MMR

Ah thank you, this actually makes a lot of sense now. He was 'Toss but yet all his levels were in Terran.
Edit: After getting errands done I played a match against a Gold and busted my butt for the win and got my Silver now. :D

Was there a change lately so you are no longer demoted during a season? Is it now only at beginning of next season? really confused here, thanks for the help if you know the answer.

There is a high probability of that. There is also strong evidence to support it, as the MMR-Stats tool recorded no demotions last season, and David Kim's message about the Master league population cited "demotion freezes". I'm expecting a more complete answer this week. It is possible that this was intended behavior.

Slight correction to the opening post: To get promoted to grandmaster, you need less than 90 bonus pool, not 180. 180 is the threshold for getting kicked out though.
Also it needs to be 90 before the game. So having 95 bonus pool and winning and getting +10 from the pool won't promote you.

Thanks, I fixed it. Originally I had changed all the values to double because the bonus pool accumulation rate doubled, but interestingly they left the entry and ejection values the same. I confirmed the 180 ejection value easily enough but what wasn't clear was the entry value, so thanks for confirming that.

FYI I updated the main post with some more clarifications based on today's League FAQ from Blizzard. http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/10117387/StarCraft_II_Ladder_League_and_Season_FAQ-5_31_2013
Unfortunately, nothing specific, but I wasn't getting my hopes up. Good to know that Ranked and Unranked are actually separate player pools at the very top (probably Master and beyond?). Got confirmation on frozen demotions too, so what David Kim said in that forum post was accurate.

Hey I dunno if this is the right place to ask, but here it goes. Is your MMR effected by how long its been since you played the game? Around January or February I was platinum, but I haven't played since then and when I played my 1 placement match for this season, I won it and was placed in silver. I'm not unhappy with that since it gives me a good chance to start over after such a long dry spell, but I was wondering whether my placement was effected by how long I had been away.

I'd like to confirm the same thing happened to me - I was masters (though idle) last season, with very few 1v1 games since HOTS released.
I played my single placement match a few days ago, hit plat, and needed 30 games (25-5) to get back to masters. This isn't how I remember WoL working, has something changed on that front?

I think it's more likely that the league boundaries were significantly shifted between seasons.

Can someone explain this to me, I am just curious, not raging, mad or anything. Why does the first guy have so many points with this match history? Ladder is locked from this season (no promotion during seasons) so there is no "promotion adjustment" or some other shenanigans, you get into ladder after placement with 0 points and more or less 20 bonus points (he must have had less because he started playing sooner than me). I am wondering how does that work. + Show Spoiler [screenshots] +

Got into silver, played a bit in past days, got some diamond opponents in silver (promotion was locked). Now I got promoted, but only to gold and now I face only gold players, really bad ones, I am going 6-0 right now, I wonder why I don't get plats/diamonds like two days ago.

Today's June 10, start of the new ladder season right?
Derelict Watcher was his first game of the season (0W-1L), initial placement at 0 points. Newkirk Precinct was next (1W-1L), +44 which probably used up his bonus pool. Korhal Sky Island (2W-1L), +21. Whirlwind (2W-2L), -6. Newkirk Precinct (2W-3L), -6. Derelict Watcher (3W-3L), +18. Star Station (3W-4L), -9.
If he got promoted after his second game then his total would be 73+44+21-6-6+18-9 = 135. Not sure where the extra 18 points came from though. It's possible that 73 isn't the starting point anymore (so maybe it's 91 now), we'll have to see if more reports like this come in.

My understanding is that that's not accurate. There are promotions during a season, but no demotions.

You are right, only demotions are disabled, my mistake, but still as Excalibur_Z stated, something has changed in a way that points are calculated.

So seeing as masters is already at 2.1% according to Sc2 ranks etc and you cant be demoted during a season will this mean that assuming the percentage cap for masters is the same you cant get into masters after the first day or so without someone leaving their league and being demoted now?
|
From what I understand: It's not actually percentage based. There are certain mmr thresholds that are recalculated for each season (which are presumably calculated to get those percentages) which are then fixed for the rest of the season. Once the system is "confident" that you're above the threshold you'll get promoted regardless of how many players are actually in the league.
