What do you want in a chat system? How do you see it working when there are perhaps a million concurrent users?
The same way Starcraft and Warcraft worked, obviously.

Oh, jolly. Maybe they'll add a button that makes a fart sound when you press it too? That actually sounds more useful than Facebook.

what started not good is becoming shameful.
stop thinking of money ffs go balance a game instead
|
am I missing something or did we always have crossgame chat between all the games that ran on battle.net? it's not even a new feature.

Dude, maybe instead of arguing with everyone how hard it is to make chat channels and how they're gonna somehow segregate community you make a tiny bit of effort and go and join old battle.net, so you have an idea what people actually mean by "chat channels"?

Ugh, I was already worried about bnet becoming more social-networking-like with its friend system, and now this? Why Blizzard, why?
|
If it didnt break the eula/tos I could create (from scratch) chat channels and inject them into the sc2 process in a matter of days BY MYSELF.
Hard to believe blizz cant do it.

LOL Chill.
I don't think it's that bad of a move, it will surely increase the popularity of the game, which in my opinion is always good.
|
oh my god this is such a waste of time, get some actual chat system in place instead of this..

I don't dislike the feature but I do want chat rooms back in b.net. Cute facebook networking but give us chat.

just what i needed, a way to lose the few remaining IRL friends i have.

I guess it's not a terrible idea, I mean, what harm could come of it... right?
Reminds of the Twitter integration in, I think, Uncharted 2. Heard it was the most abrasive thing in existence. I know fuck all about any social networking sites, but for other's sakes, I sure hope it doesn't end up like that, with constant status updates and the like, or something equally retarded.

Of course I have seen the channels in retro BT.net. I just don't think that would be really feasible/useful in SC2 if they hit the number of players that they are expecting.
I am sat in LZ's stream right now with close to 1200 people in the chat and its more or less pointless. Ok, you get the feeling you are not alone - but its not really useful in terms of chatting. Dunno, maybe its just me but the first thing I would do on the old BT.net was leave the public channel.
So personally I am not too bothered about chat channels and I can't see the fuss about them. Just wondered what magic channels people were beating their drums for.
