If this feature is being done at the expense of clan support/chatrooms/watching online replays then =/ yeah thats lame, but they trying to cater to their casual players, and i think all 3 of these things WILL be introduced.

If you have a shitload of friends on facebook of the ppl you met in college, not all of them are gonna come out and say I play starcraft 2 competitively IRL. But this way you can find out which of your RL friends plays. Before this feature you might have a bro you go surfing with every week or so, but thats all you do cause you didn't know he played SC, so now you can surf AND play SC. And if you only find that 2 of your RL buddies is on bnet, so what thats 2 more ppl you can talk about SC with while you are away from your computer. Yes, this is a feature that only has positive effects since you can't really get harmed by having Facebook on there, but the reason why people are unhappy is because Sc2 is lacking so many essential features, and they just recently fixed people logging into other people's accounts, which a high school programmer could have gotten right the first time. Instead of doing what is essential to make sc2 playable, they add things like Facebook.

if i wanted them on facebook id talk to them on msn and if i talk to them on msn thats better than having them added to facebook. what a fucking waste of time when theres so much other CORE features missing from bnet 1 that set it apart from nonsense servers like gamespy

It finds people you know "irl" on facebook that also have battle.net accounts. How is this a bad thing? Also to the people who are constantly posting "they did this before adding feature X" just know that this integration would be a few days for a top programmer and a week or so for a junior intern. It is just not very difficult. Facebook has made it as easy as possible to plug into and add metadata to accounts. If you don't want other people you have on facebook also knowing that you play SC2 then don't link the account. Simple. Now continue ranting about a feature that seems hugely misunderstood.

Release is July 27, so that means that a few days of programming just went into a system that no one was calling for, thereby further delaying/ preventing the addition of features players actually want.

That way, every time your opponent starts trash talking you, everyone on Facebook will find out about it. Also, I hope they connect Starcraft II to Twitter next, because that would be awesome.

playing a friend irl via bnet was laggy even though we were in 2 different rooms next to each other... about 1-1.5 sec lag not acceptable......

Couldn't agree more with the user comments in the OP. There are so many features of this new battle.net Blizzard has either refused to deliver or been lazy about. Next we'll see our being able to order a coffee from Starbucks while posting videos to youtube and browsing Amazon. Just make the fucking game better.

I also don't doubt they already have a full team on chat functionality, and that clearly more people is better.

For those who enjoy Facebook, enjoy this. However I think this is a waste of resources for Blizzard because I really believe that in the long run, people will move away from Facebook to another social network. Call me foolish sure, but Facebook's continuing direction to override the privacy control of its users should hopefully come to light enough for people to move away from it before they hurt themselves. But then again, I am an optimist.
