"StarCraft is a vastly superior experience when playing against someone of equal skill as you, and that might not be your friends."
- Dustin Browder
I really don't get that whole Facebook trend. Everyone just seems to use it because "everyone uses it"... Which seems odd to me. I guess I'm missing the point.

why are they adding facebook? so retarded.
add chat channels please, blizzard, that is what is really important.
oh and maybe you should also consider adding some decent fucking latency from this century please.
k thnx.

what a big joke. the game needs so many features and blizzard is spending time on facebook and being able to talk to wow friends?

Just like to point out the irony of one guy on the TL forum calling another group of guys on the TL forum nerds over an argument they are all having about Facebook integration in an online RTS game beta.

I don't really begrudge them for working on Facebook integration since that does seem to be the way the entire internet is moving (regardless of if YOU are doing so or not). You could make the argument that "well, they could spend their time working on chat!" but I'm sure they have a team working on chat functionality anywho, and more people on the problem wouldn't really solve anything.
They're trying to make Battle.net 2.0 a better Steam, which I'm interested to see how it works out.
I dunno, after 5 years of WoW, I'm just sort of tired of people saying "OH YOU'RE DOING COMMUNITY EVENTS WHY AREN'T YOU MAKING MORE RAIDS?!" or "OMG YOU'RE SPENDING TIME MAKING ONLINE INGAME NEWSPAPERS WHY AREN'T YOU BALANCING CLASSES!"
I'm sure they're working on more than you could possibly imagine.

As a side note as well, isn't this website sort of self-selecting against this feature in the first place? All you folks really care about is the e-sports and balance aspects anyway, thus you don't have full care about any advanced social implementations. In such a way, you're not really the target audience for the change in the first place.
|
Hate this net2.0 crap, I sure as hell hope its opt-in only and not integrated by default for people that don't want to use it at all. All this over-hyped stuff is just self perpetuating and it makes me a sad panda. Before you know it your login screen is filled with 20 "social networking" icons or similar crap.
|
What, exactly, is the point of this? The last thing we need is Facebook worming its way into games...
|
Didn't they already pretty much confirm Facebook integration at Blizzcon?
Either way, I think this is awesome and can't wait to see it in action. Hopefully this will actually end up informing you of people on your Facebook who start playing SC2 whom you might not otherwise have known about, obviously giving you more people to play with.
This ought to be especially useful when it comes to UMS maps, even if it won't help your 1v1 efforts much. Have a hard time finding people for a rarely played (but awesome) custom map? Just auto-spam your SC2 Facebook friends about it and voila.

I dont want my friends to know how nerdy I am

this is definitely a big fail, lol. I hope this is optional because I definitely do not want the hot girls I see every day knowing how much I play this game.

Gotta respect Blizzard nowadays for following up their strong upbringing into gaming.. Nvm they took a wrong turn.

I can't believe I was looking forward to BNET 2.0

The big thing that bothers me here, is that to me, facebook is where I keep my RL friends. My clan website(s), xfire, etc are all ways I can keep in touch with my «I don't know you in real life, but we spend many many hours a week playing games together so we still have a friendship» friends.
I don't want to talk to my facebook friends while I'm playing Starcraft, because I'm freaking playing Starcraft.
I mean, at the limit, I could see this being integrated with WoW because it's more of a social game. And even then...
Just yeah, I do use facebook and admit it's very useful for planning events. That said, it's incredibly annoying to everyone else having to see SC2 spam, or to me if they can bother me when I don't want to be bothered.
Then again, I'm one of those guys who has a «pay as you go» cell phone and refuses 80% of his calls because he's already out with someone else.

um. yeaaaaaaah.
What happens when some hackers come up with the Facebook Hack 2.1.
"Find out who beat your ass! Full name, date of birth, their friends' names and what country they live in! You even get their real life photos!"
.........I don't want to end up shot in RL just coz i 'cheesed' off some dude in SC2. (lol. cheesed off. hehe).
but srsly.
(Facebook has enough 'security' issues as it is).
