There was minimal communication, but it boiled down to the fact that the Korean side didn't feel comfortable in being able to express what they needed or wanted to express in English. In hindsight I'm glad we didn't try to force the issue because it could have been even more one-sided. I have to thank Slasher for attempting to make this happen. - I've probably hosted over a thousand shows in my lifetime (if not more) and this was by far one of the toughest I've done. Yes I learned a shitload. I learned that my true skill for "interviews" lies in a 1v1 capacity. I learned that there are better ways to handle a 2 Guest/1 Moderator situation and I will be trying to refine and improve this personally. I've taken a lot of the feedback in this thread and jotted it down in my Show Journal. I think it's really important that we have this type of medium to get information and have good discussion on... however, I see the flaws in what occurred last night and I do think these things can be fixed to maximize the effectiveness of the guests and the topics being discussed. - I cried over spilled milk (in this thread). I realized (thanks to some awesome TL members) that I shouldn't dwell on it and just aspire to improve. I get blinded by my own passion sometimes and so I do apologize to the community for that. It was a knee-jerk reaction. Thanks for the comments, good and bad (well most of them ), and I hope I can improve on this type of content and deliver the expected product in the future. I hope you realize people were just mad at the guests and taking it out on you, not seriously blaming you for anything.
It was a good show, I enjoyed it.

Here is my take:
1. Wheat was in a very difficult position. He has a business related to having a network that hand out contracts to him (commentary, interviews, information etc). That is his stream of income. In that way you depend on your clients. EG IS a very big client of Wheat that provides him with plenty of work. I am pretty sure EG took Wheats show, because they used their leverage and thought they could count on Wheat to get their message heard.
Now, if Wheat refuses EGs demands it has a backlash on his network and ultimately on his income. On the other hand, Wheat must know that viewers are VERY sensitive to what they deem (rightly or not) as unfair. That is why he gets so much flack. People think Milkis was unfairly treated during that show. it doesn't matter, if Wheat wanted that to happen, but the impression arouse. No matter how Weat acted (either deny EGs request and don't recieve flack or, give in EGs requests and become the villian too), he was in a bad spot. Like a Greek drama, where all options are bad.
Just a last point: If you work in the business world, you know how to behave. No one is open and speaks his mind. One simply knows what is expected from him and he acts accordingly. Without words.
2. EGs Alex is a corporation guy. Corporation guys love to pull the strings in the background and streamline the course of discussion in their favour without people realizing it. This interests directly clashes with how the internet works. Information are readily available, consumers are able to form and voice their own opinion without a middle man. A translator is not a journalists he simply makes information available that other journalists have produced in conjunction with Coach Lee.
That EGs Alex as a corporation guy doesn't like this kind of information sharing witout being able to streamline it, is obvious. But if you call all and everyone a journalists, you simply don't understand how the internet works and if you stay adamant to your position you will be swept away by the masses. That is for EGs Alex at stake.
3. As a laywer of Coach Lee, I could argue like this: Puma was under an orally binding contract with TSL. Contracts can be concluded either written, orally or even by mere action. What is important though are the circumstances for the case at hand.
A typical progamer lives in a progamer house, trains 10 hours, plays for his team in leagues, gets free accomodation. If he recieves a salary it is even a stronger hint of being contractually bound. All or most of these circumstances are fulfilled by Puma and was thus under contract by TSL.
But Coach Lee released him of they split amicabely and thus Puma's contractual obligations stoped there. If EG now hires Puma, everything should be fine.
On the other hand, you have to exactly look at how the contact by EG was made at the NASL event. This is decisive for the case at hand and if EG violated a business code. If EG simply gave a business card to Puma and Puma then acted out of his own, EGs is not to blame, but Puma himself. If Eg forcibly pursed Puma and Puma simply gave in to EG, it is a completely different story.

I hope next show we can talk about something funnier... like WHEAT's bowl cut hair

Didn't Wheat and SirScoots say that Slasher will cut his hair off if Lo3 gets more than 25k viewers? With this EG thing and FXOBoss coming onto the show, I think this is the best chance we've had so far.

djWheat, you're my esports idol. No one can ever, ever doubt that you seriously care about this scene and that you do what it takes to take care of it. It probably took a lot of work, organization and effort to pull together the show that you did, and even though people here may fault you for not forcing an absolutely even back-and-forth debate, what you DID do was bring a lot of important issues to air.
Like everything else in esports: could it have been better? Sure. Was it absolutely awesome that you brought this out for discussion? Absolutely. We're getting spoiled here in the SC2 scene, methinks. "WHY DID EG BAN INCONTROL FROM THIS DEBATE" "OMG WHY DIDN'T YOU GET TASTOSIS TO CAST THE DEBATE"

Much love to djWHEAT. Everything's been said multiple times and your 4 stage reactions (from "Oh Fuck", to "Fuck you", to "Fuck this", then finally "Ah Fuck it") was nice to see you come round again in favour of improvement, but more importantly to not let haters get to you... this is the internet!
I know for sure if you intend to set up a debate with 2 opposing personalities, with you as the moderator, you would do an excellent job and aim for integrity of neutrality and fairness. This time it was just thrown into your lap but for 95% of the show it went smoothly. : ) : ) All it takes is 5% to go off and haters will throw everything else into the water and hope it drowns into oblivion.

I was gonna post about ten different times regarding the Puma episode, but the only thing I want to say in the end is that DJ Wheat's final words were amazing. Well done.

So AG vs Coach Lee Slasher and Wheat be the referee. Awesome !!! The best match up that we need for so long

I'm fairly sure DJwheat did not intend for it to get into a discussion of journalism and translation, though. The original purpose of the interview was to get the EG side of the story, IIRC.
People are mostly complaining that what was going to be an informative interview turned into a surprise ambush/smear attack, and I'm sure it alarmed DJWheat as much as it alarmed us. He was taken by surprise, but hey, that happens to everyone, right? Given his track record of excellent productions, I can understand why people are surprised and upset, but also, given his track record of excellent productions, I have no concerns about the integrity of his shows. I will, as always, continue to watch him

I think that's the overall issue and problem here. All fucked-up things aside, it all started when the director misinterprets Milkis role and then runs with it to lay down everything else he says. I agree with the point that Alex was trying to make. TL is very nearly unique in that it is the central hub of a community while being almost completely volunteer driven. What I think Alex was trying to say is that news and articles generated and translated by TL are largely viewed as Official. As such the articles that come out here can, and often do, have real consequences and cause real backlash. When an article comes out written with an obvious bias or given a spin from the offset, the community will largely accept that point of view out of hand and one side will be left fighting an uphill battle just to plead their case. Asking the TL community to take a more responsible and journalistic approach to their articles is perfectly reasonable. If they aren't willing to try to get both sides of the story, then they should either form their article to be non-biased, or state their biases up front and plainly, making certain that they read as opinions. The majority of people don't think critically of an article that they consider Official, as many on TL are. Many will believe the first view given to them if an alternative isn't given, and as the saying goes, "The first impression is a lasting one". When the article is original in addition to being "Official", the issue is compounded as that article will be the most quoted and copied with all of its bias and spin intact. There are no rumors or bias in the articleThere is no poor journalism as far as I can read. On TL's part at least, no.
I reread Milkis' article, and you are right. He did nothing but quote Coach Lee and state the facts that were known at the time. As such, it was EG's (Alex's) responsibility to respond in a timely manner rather than expect Milkis to have contacted him or written his article differently.
I had mixed up the contents of the article with the obvious bias that Milkis showed during the show. He was hearing EG's side of the story at the same time as everyone else, but obvously, he had already condemned them for some sort of foul play
Alex's point doesn't apply to Milkis, but it does still stand on it's own merit. I'm reminded of when it was announced that Team Liquid wasn't going to participate in some tournament in the past and the same subject of them not getting to give their side before public opinion was fixed was a big topic on that week's SotG.
I can very much empathize with Alex's situation where he wanted to state his views on the effect that TL's forums could have while being very conscious that it would come off sounding like an accusation. I've made similar speeches myself, and though I considered the case in front of me to be tangential, I wasn't trying to stick the person across from me with that label. It worked out about as well as it did with Alex.
(An example: You're out with a friend who sits down on a faulty chair and the leg snaps and plants him on the floor. A thought hits that you decide to speak out loud, You say "You know, places should provide extra sturdy chairs for fat people." Obviously, your friend is going to think you're calling him fat, but maybe you're just talking about chairs.)
As for whether there WAS any foul play involved that EG should be condemned for... I don't see it. Korea may not do things the same way, but that doesn't make other ways wrong.
