But to work those muscles pretty much you wanna strengthen your back up (scapular retraction)... so bent over rows, rowing, inverted rows,... pretty much anything except upright rowing. You can also work stuff with scapular depression and elevation but technically not needed. With shoulders forward they're protracted all the time so you wanna work your retractors to get them back. hey I dont have the gym equipment to do bent over rows, rowing, or inverted rows. Is there anything I can do at home w/ dumbbells? and do deadlifts do anything? Am i just wasting my time? + Show Spoiler + ![]()

Deadlifts and squats are tied for being the best mass/strength lifts. Exactly. If you wanna gain muscle ANYWHERE on your body you should be doing DL and squats. Since you're pushing heavy weight and your body is under so much stress from so many muscles being used it puts out a lot of anabolic hormones which makes it easier for your whole body to grow.

There are some videos on youtube and websites that teach dumbbell deadlifts, one arm dumbell rows and dumbbell bench presses. I'm very sure deadlifts helped me with posture. At the end of one, I feel myself using the same muscles I use to stand up straight.

How do you feel after you go a day in which you know you should have stayed on your diet and workout and stuff, and you didn't do any of those things?. I feel like shitty right now, didn't went for a run today, I'm not working out, and I drank soda ![]() ![]()

I just continue with my routine as if nothing had happened. I mean if I for some reason had McDonald's for lunch, I would still continue to have my 3pm meal, pre and post workout meal and same size dinner. Even if I had missed my workout I still wouldn't try to strain myself the next day to make up for it by exercising twice as hard or eating half as much. Don't even think about it.

I feel really good this week. I got my three lifting days in mo we fri. I'm a starting strength fiend. I used to bodybuild. And doing squats, power cleans, and deadlifts feels so strange to me still. And I've been doing them for about 6 months. I guess that's expected, though, as I've been doing bicep curls since I was 14. My squat form is solid and safe. Deadlift I'm confident in. Power clean... hmmm truth is I don't know. And I'm not sure any more reading will help me. I think I'm doing them right. And considering my back is locked in when the bar is below my knees, and I rotate my elbows to get the weight off my wrists at the top, I guess I'm not hurting myself. So there's no downside to doing them. Though I'd kill to have a coach tell me "you're doing it right!" I'm considering adding in cardio on off days. But I'm already feeling so good I wonder if its necessary. And when I do run on nice days it feels so easy! I'm >6'1 btw (people always tell me I'm taller than that though, but I haven't measured) and n0ow I'm in the 220s. I used to be about 240. I feel really healthy. I'd like to get below 200 though.

Nah I never do that, I am actually pretty tired by the time I end my workout (like really tired haha). So I was just wondering what's everyone's take on this, like these kind of thing don't happen a lot, I'm pretty strict with my routine/workout meals and whatnot. ;p.

When I do bent over rows I don't feel it in my back at all (unlike deadlifts). Is this normal? I only feel it in my arms from lifting the weight up to my chest looks a bit like this wen i do it ![]()
