I don’t think the Confederations Cup suffers from a European elitism, just a lack of competitive legitimacy amidst a very squeezed football calendar. It’s a good idea but I’ve seen South American sides bring more experimental/developmental sides to it as well, it’s status as a good warmup tournament in the fan’s eyes is reflected by how the teams themselves approach it

That isn't much of a recharge for these guys for "nations league", UEFA just cannot organise anything, they should have just cancelled the nations league for one cycle of qualifiers because of the covid backlog. Or at least maybe just let it run longer and remove the qualification from it because it will last longer. 2 Games which lasts 10 days after a season end would make sense, but not this much. Just read that Yanited are starting back 27th June, which is <2 weeks after the last England game (obviously they will get more time off maybe a week extra and rejoin in July) so that is like 3 weeks off max?

I'm sure your De Bruynes and Salahs and Stirlings could do with a bit more time off, but sacrificing Nations League which to me (after initial scepticism) has looked like one of the better UEFA inventions for the benefit of the top 5% of players seems silly. I'm very much with the sentiment that Nations League has made national team games much more meaningful for the teams that end up in the middle of the qualifier groups. Less mismatches against the minnows and less mismatches against the very top teams seems like win for everyone.

Two things going for it are the Euro qualifying chances and the ranked tiers that ensure most matches are between teams of very similar strength. As much as it's cool to have a chance in beating some of the top dogs, it's also really fun when your team actually has a legit chance in every match. Apart from the extra strain for the players, the biggest downside is probably the messy qualification scheme alongside the actual Euro qualifiers.

They had to play Denmark in the EURO 2020 after Eriksen and now they have to play Ukraine. This for a team that is used to general international support, being an underdog in most big matches.

He made awful subs, played people in wrong positions and tactically the back 3 was never working and blamed the heat!

I guess the other alternative would be even more games with strained players though, so this might be the lesser evil.
