Fascinating last 25 mins or so were shaping up, then that terrible yellow decision.
Disappointing as a neutral, was clearly one of those ‘you’re on your last chance now’ kind of tackles.
Perhaps such a system would be liable to abuse, I’d still prefer to see a trial of VAR being used with managerial appeals allocated.
That aside, Pulisic has been looking some player, interested to see what he can do if he can keep fit/isn’t rotated out of rhythm with all of Chelsea’s signings.
Arsenal look to be capable of being resilient and beating top teams in one-off games lately, the trick Arteta has to pull is finding an alternative way of playing consistently when Arsenal have the lion’s share of the ball against weaker opposition. I’m rather intrigued to see what he can do with a bit more time and perhaps a few choice signings.

Yeah worse thing possible to happen to use were arguably our best two players getting hamstring injuries, now no chance vs bayern even if you only thought it was a 10% chance i had faith and now thats gone lol.
Such a shame way to end the season for us but still was entertaining a bit.

I'm more worried about recovery from hamstring injuries when there's just something like 6 to 7 weeks till the next PL start. Google says smaller tears heal in something like 4-8 weeks. A Major one could be 3 months.

no surprises, howe has done all he could and it's amazing how he was able to keep them in the premier league for 5 (!) seasons.
best for him would be to take a bit of a break and take over a big six team next season whenever they fire their manager (so most likely spurs).

I'm kind of curious what Howe could do with some of these financially big underperformers like Everton or West Ham or such.
Edit: Maybe even Villa could be interested. They put in huge money this season if my memory serves me right. Basically almost any Prem club is going to be a financial upgrade for Howe. There's a lot of interesting options around even if the top 6 don't sack anyone next season.

I too think his best option is a sabbatical where he can look at different approaches and maybe fill in some of the holes in his own methodology. It must be a very stressful job at that level so it might do him some good mentally, plus if he has a gap out people will start to emphasise the 5 years he kept Bournemouth in the Prem rather than the most recent season he took them down.
Howe hasn’t exactly got a great record when he has got the club to loosen the pursestrings. Perhaps as a coach he is better suited to building a club from a lower starting point than being given 1/2 seasons to try and make an immediate impact at a big club?

Yeah. I think sabbatical is a decent call here, but it's also such a personal matter between Howe and his family that I feel it's usually better to just speculate on the options available IF he decides to get back into business right away.
The summer break is unusually short due to the Corona stuff, so I guess any managerial fireworks bound to happen quite soon already.

Napoli and Barca game super intriguing. Napoli seem to be up and down in Serie A since restart but Barca seem at an all time low in terms of morale.
Some fun matches though.

I feel like all games can go either way despite Bayern Chelsea. Very exciting!

It's quite interesting that teams are done with their domestic leagues, so they can probably do some unusual preparation for these if they feel like. Could be some cool tactical stuff or awkward defensive borefests, I guess.

Prediction time!
Juve 2:0 Lyon. Juve advances City 2:1 Madrid. City advances Munich 3:1 Chelsea. Munich advances Barca 1:1 Napoli. Overtime. Penalty. Napoli advances (fingers crossed)

Keeping it Arsenal related, they should be close to signing Willian for a 3 year deal. Feel like Arsenal and Chelsea have switched roles. Arsenal is becoming a veteran team that plays more conservative. And Chelsea a team full of young promising players with attacking mindset.

City is the better team and can destroy Real in the counters as they don't need to go for goal. I'd say a very tight game, 2-2 with a lot of sweat on Pep's bald head.
Munich goes through, not an interesting one.
And finally Barça through with an easy 2-0, then a goal from Napoli around the 80th and Barça trembling for 10-15mn but, hopefully, this time not breaking. 2-1.

Has anyone here subbed to the Athletic? Interested to give it a go, although I’m subbed to way too many podcasts already that feature some of their writers so not sure how much additional mileage I would get!
Disappointing to say the least from Arsenal. They will no doubt reverse this decision based on public outcry and it’ll be forgotten. These owners and billionaire types will fuck over the little guy and gal given any chance whatsoever.
Mesut Ozil is looking increasingly vindicated in not taking that pay cut eh? Wonder if him being frozen out is more than just a purely footballing decision at this stage...
For those unaware, Ozil’s given rationale to not take a pay cut was he wanted assurances as to how that saved money would be used, and if it would safeguard staff jobs etc.
