Lol I just predicted Thorins tweets. (which btw were sarcastic). The whole "only under specific conditions does results/data" matter is so ridiculously retarded and just a clear indicaiton of bias. Lol. Pity he's being logical though Yes Showtime outplaying the GSL winner in two macro games is irrelevant and doesn't matter because foreigners always used to outplay one of the very best koreans in macro games. So let's continue to narrow down the very specific conditions under which we can "finally" proove that the skillcap has narrowed a lot. LOL. Did you understand the basic meaning behind what Thorn said? Here , let me hold your hand for you: He isn't saying the results aren't relevant. He is saying rather that this result is overhyped as this has happened several times before, and thus that this doesn't prove anything in particular. Or perhaps keep riding the hype train and remain blissfully oblivious.
So if Showtime beat byun 3-2 it meant more than him beating him 2-0? Tell me about all the times where a foreigner outplayed one of the very best koreans in two macrogames.
No that's actually what he implies. he continues to say "don't look at that result, it's just xxx". And when you have enough bo3's, then that should count for quite alot.
Reasonable people do not ignore any form of data, but weight them all properly and then looks at the big picture to inform their opinion.

I didn't say it is saving sc2 or anything, but it's definitely not the cause of its decline.

I agree with your general comment that he doesn't follow sc2 really and is trying to make foreigners worse than they are, but cmon you actually can think BW is the better game without being a hipster, let's not make ridiculous claims Sure you can, and there are definitely some way BW is a better game. But Thorin just has never explained what specifically he likes more about BW other than "Sc2 was shit when it was released in 2010". And I am pretty sure he doesn't watch BW regularly. All he has said was that "He still watches it to this day". sure but that can be one game a month. And if you really think BW is a fantastic game, then you also think that Sc2 is at least a decent game, because the differences aren't that huge. Like there is no way BW is a 10/10 game and SC2 a 2/10 game.
Afaik Thorin watched BW when it was already on the decline and read all the TL live report threads to understand the history, etc (who was a favorite, why, etc). I also am sure that he explained why he likes it more over multiple amas and videos as well tbh Differences are actually pretty huge, but yeah it's mostly a "compared to this, the other thing is bad". Like when you watched a really good tv show and are disappointed with the next one because it's simply not the same lvl even if it is still "objectively" good. Not sure if this is the right place though :D Especially now that TY vs Elazer starts

I didn't stop watching Starcraft 2 for 4 years because I had to learn about a Korean player. I stopped watching / playing because blord infestor was boring as fuck and there were better ways to spend my time.

The viewership mostly just depends on the player base. Honestly it doesn't matter if it's koreans or foreigners playing. Sure any fan favourite will boost the numbers somewhat, but it doesn't matter if that favourite is Jaedong or Neeb. Still having more variety and players from all over the world, instead of just one nation, is obviously good.

A lot of people left in the first place due to faceless Koreans Yeah when it was a different set of Koreans coming out to each tournament and winning things it was really hard for the casual audience to keep up/care about them. Hence the facelessness. Those who regularly turned up (MarineKing for instance) got that foreign following that was good for the scene. Consistency in the people you see is a core component of building a fan following.

for me it doesn't matter if it's an amazing game by foreigner or korean, but it is my 1st blizzcon when I haven't missed a single game so I don't mind overall

No matter what happened in this tournament so far, TY has this in the bag.

Really (pleasently) surprised by the Showtime vs Byun result.
Were the games any good, worth watching despite already knowing the results? Not really unless you're into the "woo a foreigner won so hypehypehype" thing.

Reasonable people - on the other hand - does not ignore any form of data, but weight them all properly and then looks at the big picture to inform their opinion. Yes, beating ByuN in a Bo5 is definitely more meaningful than in a Bo3.
And LOL, don't be pathetic. Thorin was not discounting Bo3s , but rather saying that their result was not as impressive as beating them in a Bo5 would be. Stop being deliberately blind and suggesting that I or Thorin view things in a black-and-white manner.

Showtime's win is a brilliant achievement. However, Im quite annoyed about the format this year of Blizzcon. If we look past the fact that the 8 WCS Circuit spots are effectively welfare spots, my biggest gripe is with the group stage Bo3.
Blizzcon has been a Ro16 Bo5 since 2013 yet this year, the year when foreigners are present, the format is changed to a group stage Bo3. It's well known that a foreigner has a much better chance of beating a Korean when it's Bo3 rather than a Bo5 and also having a second chance in the losers match.
Is it too much tinfoil hat thinking or have Blizz really done all they can to give every advantage to foreigners this year?

i mean one guy in the thread that posted that lol..im sure other people can think that but there is no way to prove it. yes viewership is down overall but that is everywhere including in kr. you can even see it in the stream numbers they go up when a foreigner is beating a korean

I also am sure that he explained why he likes it more over multiple amas and videos as well tbh
Show me a link to when he talks about the specific design differences between BW and Sc2.
