Are there so many teenagers here that cant afford the prices or have so many been spoiled by free streams? What I really wanna know is thought is if "season" is a year or a month. If its a year then the prices seem right. Around $2.5/month which is basically nothing. For a month its too steep. My limit is about $10 a month. Live and Vods should also be combined for a relatively cheaper price. Low quality live stream should also be provided. Maybe delayed or low quality vods as well. This is for people to get hooked on GSL. But the difference in quality should be quite big between free and paid thought. Overall, I understand that free streams is hard to make profitable when your gioving out $170,000 in prices alone. When the stream is global its hard to find advertisers since it throws any local brand or company instantly out of the window. No one like to pay for advertising for customers that cant buy their product. In summary, TL dont expect this scope of a tournament to be free. Dont be greedy. You dont expect to go into movietheaters for free or U2 concert to be free either. And GOMTV dial back on the prices and terms. Free low quality streams and vods to get people hooked and get the communitys support and moderate prices are probably the best for your profits. Id imagine youd sell 5x more tickets if its $10 instead of $29 per season. So i should spend money on sth that wouldnt work for me? If i was in US or Canada i could watch it but in Europe.... Remember that the lag between Europe and Asia was a reason why the EU Asia showmatch was fought on NA server

furthermore, they can only prevent TL from linking the streams but can't possibly shut down every stream that exists.....so if someone just links his restream in a thread without listing it, the chances of gomtv to find everybody are really small; especially since it's not only TL in the end it would be interesting to know, if the costs from preventing restreams are covered by the income of live-stream/VOD

I was really not expecting this, never crossed my mind at all. Sad news, but i will most likely not be purchasing access to stream. Totally surprised at this. I am wondering how many people are actually going to be purchasing the stream. Guess we'll see in the coming days once more information is released about it. I still cannot believe it, crazy...

I presume that if your going to pay for its going to be of high quality and reliable. And thats what it should be.

But this attitude is ridiculous and I will not pay when I am forced to do it. We all know that it will be restreamed, but the really interesting question is how TL will react? Will the ban-hammer be flying wild to stamp down any links to restreams in order to to protect GOMTVs stupid move (which Naz clearly disagrees with) or will they opt for a more laissez faire attitude. I for one am going to watch the restreams and the youtube VODs. Shame on you GOMTV for ruining such a great experience. You raise a very good question indeed. This will affect TL as they have TLO participating and such we will have to understand that TL will throw banhammers for those linking to it which I can understand. But it won't prevent people still be able to watch the streams by just looking at other sc2 sites which gomtv simply don't know of. TL is just the biggest and popular one and I will probably pay for it (I like to understand what's going on and that is a service I would want to pay for unlike most people who disagree) but I can already see that it's undoable for Gretech to prevent re-streamers.

I paid $30 to ESL for a year of HQ streaming on all their content, not just SC2. This seemed reasonable to me. $10 as a one off payment for a weekend of MLG also seemed fair considering the amount of content I could (but chose not to) watch. $20 for the live stream of the GSL, and $30 for any VODs I want to see just seems ridiculous to me in this context, hence not paying. If it is for a year that's slightly better, but still not worth it to me.

But well... maybe they will offer a free one if the first season goes well.

So i should spend money on sth that wouldnt work for me? If i was in US or Canada i could watch it but in Europe.... this there is no guarantee that the stream won't be a slideshow In summary, TL dont expect this scope of a tournament to be free. Dont be greedy. don't get me wrong, but GSL is 99% a korean thing; 99% of the money comes from inside of korea; they won't "lose" any serious money by offering free streams in english, because - in comparison - only very few will watch; this is what I don't get; they don't "rely" on us for financing their tournaments, the money has to be on board already; it wasn't 100% certain that there would even be a "live" english stream until recently; therefore it really is a slap in the face of the community, because they could easily afford free english streams; if we compare this to IEM for example, few koreans probably followed it; they relied on us/european financing

Is GOMTv coming out of the gate trying to be the new evil empire in Korean Gaming? A lot of people thought that Kespa's days were numbered, but this news... ugh. Also, how big is the GOMTv antipiracy team?

Of course, the price needs to be reasonable and quality of stream has to be top-notch....if GOM can ensure that then it's okay with me.

1. No guarantee it will work. The stability of the GOM Classic was very poor. I wouldn't pay for this. Speed test tells me I have ~200 kbits to their servers... 2. Too expensive. ESL-TV is about 38$ a year. I get the HQ stream and all VODs in HQ. And they have a lot of shows for other games besides SC2 as well. (I love watching QL.) To get the same amount of content I would have to pay 30$ for stream, +20$ for VODs and this for each season (about 2 times a year I guess). Total of 100$ and I only get SC2. 3. I wouldn't want to pay for stream-only because if I miss a show I don't get a second chance to watch it. 4. I wouldn't pay for VOD-only because live is so much better.

It's as simple as that. Viewers pay to watch matches in just about every other major sport out there, why not SC as well? Of course, the price needs to be reasonable and quality of stream has to be top-notch....if GOM can ensure that then it's okay with me. Every other major sport doesn't charge for people to watch their events. Most major sports broadcasting is covered by Sponsors and Advertising. Only going to the event live usually has a charge. Exceptions to this are some things go to PPV like boxing and MMA.

Otherwise, there is almost always some way to watch it for free while putting up with advertisements. Sure, you may have to pay extra if you want to watch all games, but I don't think these GOM passes allow us to watch all the games in the tournament. Saying that we all need to pay $20 to make something a sport is really faulty logic.

I dont think people going there saying "I want this for free!" will help more than if all customers at a store suddenly wanted everything for free. Its a shame its something you have to pay for, when there is no guarantee that it will work properly and their terms of agreement basically is "whatever happens and whatever we do you will never get any money back". Hopefully its watchable on that OGN thingy, too bad I won't get to see artosis / tasteless, they are so awesome.
