Sorry but 20$ for english commentators? Completely stupid and a retarded move GomTV. Not only is it going to make very little profit but your going to piss off a community that has helped e-sports come to the point its at. Sad indeed I will not be paying a cent to GomTV for this.

although I don't approve of re-streaming (it IS their right to limit access if they please) I don't understand the logic behind it - of course there will be tons and tons of re-streams AND (as far as I know) it will be free on OGN; it's funny because some days ago I posted that most of the users would be fine with a low-quality stream as long as it's free because otherwise they will just watch it with korean commentators;
the guy from gomtv said he'd report that...obviously without many success; actually I feel pretty bad for tasteless and artosis; they try to give a good coverage and get owned by gomtv

Well I guess we are all really disappointed after reading this. Free stream + adds would work much better for you guys. People will aways find a way to avoid paying for this e.g. restreaming.

is there a possibility to find out when they will show which match?

Guess I won't be watching this then. Not a good start for GOMTV me thinks, and bad for e-sports in general if you lose over half of your potential viewers.

Well it might be a interesting issue.
They offer the service that for most of Europe wouldnt work, or work LQ at best.

So Gom provided a semi-working english stream for $ (with low chance of refund in case of dificulties)

or a Gom provided free korean language stream....

So isn't a restream of free korean language source stream (with all their ads and so on) legall or not?

Sorry, Artosis and Tasteless, but your commentary isn't worth $20 to me. OGN stream here I come. This is seriously one of the worst possible things GOM could have done to botch this tournament. Who handed them the idiot ball?
Weird, last time I checked the UN said you need to have at least 200 APM and be rainbow league to be called human. —Liquid`TLO

I checked the upcoming calendar for OGN and I don't see any signs of the GSL on there. So it seems the only way to watch legally is through the Korean GOM player and any subsequent restreams of it.

I might be eating my own words though as Korea is prevalent for updating information in the last minute.

I will definitely be watching Artosis and Tasteless casting this in English, even if I do have to pay. I love those guys and I love SC2, and it's a TON of games to get to watch for $20, way more than the $10 for the HQ MLG stream. I guess I just enjoy SC2 enough that it's worth that for me.

TL is like a torrent site as they only post the links to the content someone else provide (in this case embedded streams).
Stopping TL will only have negative results for blizzard/gretech so there is nothing to worry about that. They'll have to go after the sites streaming that is livestream/ustream or whatever streams those people who watches OGN have are using.

I've watched enough online sporting event streams to know that they can be shut down
and ya I didn't really mean they go after TL like sue them or something, but rather simply ask them to not link the restreams... kind of like how it was with IEM (and MLG I believe). Of course I can imagine them shutting down the restreamers directly as well.

Yes I understand what you meant.
But now we're talking about a korean stream to outside korea.
There are so many streaming sites they possibly can't watch all of them.
There will always be atleast 1 or more on a streaming site streaming the content simply because gretech won't be able to monitor that stream (they'll have to watch every streaming website on the world and contact them to shut it down which is un-doable and costfull for them).

It'll work if the streams were only shown on a few known streaming sites.

Well, you have to get the link from somewhere, too. And you can't monitor every streaming website on the world, either. So you'll turn to TL and look what streams are posted here. And so will Gretech.

TL is not the only sc2 site. It is the most popular and the biggest one so they'll prevent the majority watching ogn streams but that won't mean they'll be able to prevent the streams since TL is not the only sc2 site. This is an inevitable problem for gomtv and in the end the only possible solution would be making sure all korean internet cannot be restreamed/accessed to outside of korea which is undoable or costly.

Well I hope I'm not gonna eat my words either, I just repeated what I had been reading on TL somewhere lol 8[

Gom really dropped the ball on this. There's still time to chance it though.. we should all head to their forums. If this ends up going through, I'm missing BW right about now.

Hmm, Im a bit baffled but the response. Some of it is justified, but still. Are there so many teenagers here that cant afford the prices or have so many been spoiled by free streams?

What I really wanna know is thought is if "season" is a year or a month. If its a year then the prices seem right. Around $2.5/month which is basically nothing. For a month its too steep. My limit is about $10 a month. Live and Vods should also be combined for a relatively cheaper price.

Low quality live stream should also be provided. Maybe delayed or low quality vods as well. This is for people to get hooked on GSL. But the difference in quality should be quite big between free and paid thought.

Overall, I understand that free streams is hard to make profitable when your gioving out $170,000 in prices alone. When the stream is global its hard to find advertisers since it throws any local brand or company instantly out of the window. No one like to pay for advertising for customers that cant buy their product.

In summary, TL dont expect this scope of a tournament to be free. Dont be greedy. You dont expect to go into movietheaters for free or U2 concert to be free either. And GOMTV dial back on the prices and terms. Free low quality streams and vods to get people hooked and get the communitys support and moderate prices are probably the best for your profits. Id imagine youd sell 5x more tickets if its $10 instead of $29 per season.

This might seem stupid, but I was going to pay for it if they offered free low quality vs. premium high quality in order to support GOMTV. But this attitude is ridiculous and I will not pay when I am forced to do it.

We all know that it will be restreamed, but the really interesting question is how TL will react? Will the ban-hammer be flying wild to stamp down any links to restreams in order to to protect GOMTVs stupid move (which Naz clearly disagrees with) or will they opt for a more laissez faire attitude.

I for one am going to watch the restreams and the youtube VODs.

Shame on you GOMTV for ruining such a great experience.
