w ssss tab c for colossus + stalkers in an attack feels a lot better. We already want to have gateways on a hotkey *somewhere* in order to not miss new gateways to transform to warpgates!
*Edit* And good luck OChem, aced that crap 5 years ago with notecards and a little ingenuity! That is really awkward though 0o You are hitting W then S with middle finger, then Tab with your ring finger then C with your index. Might be easier if you changed Tab and Capslock around. Unless you have some super long Pinky finger or something
To make stalkers-- Press and hold shift with pinky.. then press W once press S once and then Click on power grid for as many starkers as you want.. Let go of shift after Your done.. say that you want 2 stalkers and 2 zealots--> Hold Shift--> W-S click click Z-click click.. let go of shift.
I have average size hands..

I have somethingsimilar too sice a few days..
I used Q E R T as 7 8 9 0, Tab as a camera hotkey for warp in pylon and ` as tab since it's beside 1-2-3 who are my unit groups.
W-Tab-SSSS is the fastest way i know to warp in at proxy pylon.
1-2-3 units 4: observer 5 forges 6 whatever tech that I feel useful to put there Q nexus W warpgate E robo R stargate/robo bay
I had to change some regular hotkeys too.
Z and X as basic and advanced building,I mightchange it back, but im starting to really get used to it. S pylon and probes D sentry and immortals A for robo facility V for templar archive
I think that's pretty much it. Ifeel like everything is nearby and scotuing with obs is much easier then when i would put it as 9 or 0.

hey gang, new user here
im a platinum protoss and i thought id post my hotkey setup to see what people think.
Q - nexus/nexii W - warpgates 3 - robo, stargate (tab to switch between) 4 - gates until warp, then forge ~ - idle probes 1 army 2 scoutprobe, then army 5-9 army/tech/etc
click scroll wheel - screen location (at forward pylon, or front of base - basically wherever im warping) ctrl+clickscrollwheel - set warp location alt - alternate screen location spacebar - cycle through bases backspace - last action (rarely used) F1-F6 additional screen locations (rarely used)
ctrl and shift function as normal, as do all the unit/building hotkeys
basically the idea is to have all my production within close proximity of one another. once my warp location is set, using the scroll wheel click and then leftclick for warps is very fluid for me. also spacebar, tab, and scrollclick allow me to jump to any location relatively quickly.
so let me know what you guys think and if you see any room for improvement! thx doods, ggs and gl

This is slightly off-topic, but I just wanted to thank the OP and the other people leaving comments for making me think about and reconsider my hotkey placement. I don't think I'm going to adapt most of the suggestions in this thread, but I do think I've come up with a new hotkey placement that will work for me. So yeah... thanks.
|
I put my nexus on Q and production on ` so I can use 1-4 for army and 5 for specialty units.
|
i really tried to use all the suggestions in the OP's post,
right off the bat i hated the "r" change. the rebinds, the feel, i just wasnt accusmed and it was really really really throwing me off, i really prefer my nexus' + upgrades+ tech (i love that idea) on 5. (so now i'm missing out on 1 hotkey that COULD be used for: scouting or harass, so 6 remains 6 in my case for scouting)
I'm still messing with Q... this one might be worth getting used to, i like the idea of Q having the main army, and having 1 for stalkers, 2 for another unit, 3 for utility unit's micro (HT's, DT's Phoenix etc), 4 is my worker probe, 5 Nexus+stuff (using Q adds another hotkey availability, letting me utilize extra chunks of my army for scouting, harassing, and drop defending)
i LOVED ~ for Obs, and T for sentries (the T->F is awesome), and W for production facilities i was already thinking about this, and the caps for the submenu is really smart too.
so currently my hotkeys look like: 1 -> Stalkers 2 -> Army chunk/unit cunk (just for micro or drop defense) 3 -> utility unit micro//army chunk #2 4 -> worker probe 5 -> Nexus + Upgrades + Tech structures 6 -> Scouting mid/late game Q -> Army W -> Production Facilities T -> Sentries ~ -> Obs
i just couldnt get accusmed to the rebinds of R, and the feeling of R, and this is all just how I feel comfortable thats all.
I havent delved into rebinding the units yet, but the colossus/vr change to E sounds really smart (the tab/caps to quickly make colossus/vr, whereas any other unit you'd have to think about it)
and just reading the post above me while i write this, i havent even nearly started to delve into rebinding abilities for ease of use (blink omfg can't wait to rebind this fucker)
thanks for the tips all and hope this helps someone :D
edit: also binded the camera locations to ctrl+F# for create and then the F# to goto. and idle worker to F5, and i think i followd all the rebinds for the T/Q rebinds, and Warp in was bound to K if i needed it.

I want to point out that instead of re- assigning backspace as backwards tab you can hold shift while you tab and will go backwards. Thats a windows hotkey that translates to most things, incase you arent aware. Otherwise i may just not be seeing the purpose of that change.

i noticed that while i was rebinding, truthfully i just find tapping caps to be easier than shift+tab which is 2 keys.

Omg CAPS LOCK... how come I never thought of rebinding that -_- I so dumb, thanks much =P I have a nice routine I follow for me hotkeys already, but I like the ideas behind your setup.

I just Updated with Camera Jumping Hotkeys; Cheers.
ePBuckets: Q->F-->Force field tab F-->Storm Tab F-->Blinking to snipe Mutas all before they can react feels awsome =)!!

re: camera locations: on the qsenn (which is what i use) the F# keys are nice and close (on the SEM-DT35) so i use those for locations F1-4. and F5 being idle worker (easy to jump to and go back)
i like the Q->F->FF, tab F->Storm, tab f-> blink its a super nice flow, but wouldnt HT be before sentry in subtab order? so itd be like.. FF, caps storm, tab tab blink?

Iv been playing with this setup for several days and I think it's amazing. It's a great boon to people not familiar with the keyboard spam that starcraft demands. I think lots of people (like me) have trouble consistently reaching 6-0 and this setup is tremendously helpful in remedying that. Thank you for posting it.

ive recently updated my keys again for protoss, and with every change im finding my play more fluid once i make the adjustments to the new keys.
here is my current setup - its simple, logical and convenient!
production: Q - nexus W - warpgates 3 - robo, stargate 4 - gateways until warp finishes... then forge, other upgrades
control groups: 1 - army 2 - army ~ - idle probes 5-9 - army, drops, etc
screen locations: scrollwheel*click* - set to current warpin location (either forward pylon or front of base) alt - alternative screen location spacebar - cycles thru bases backspace - move to last action (rarely use this since i can pretty much hotkey to anywhere using my army or screen hotkeys) F1-F4 - extra screen locations (also rarely used)
upgrades: changed all my attack/armor/shield upgrades to A, S, D (and Z, X, C for terran as well) the reasoning behind this is rather than have to memorize 20 diff hotkeys for 20 diff upgrades, theyre all at the left side in a block, so you can hotkey to the building and upgrade without pecking around the keyboard for erroneous keys
in essence my upgrades look like this: forge attack - A forge armor - S forge shields - D core attack - A core armor - S robo bay obs speed - A robo bay prism speed - S robo bay coloss range - D fleet beacon int. speed - A
(blink, charge, hallucinate, storm, and warp tech remain unchanged)
i also put some tape on the Q, W and 3 keys so i can anchor my fingers there without looking. using this setup pretty much every key youll need is within reach so you spend less time fumbling around and more time micro/macroing!! it also allows for smoother transition between races without having to memorize all the upgrades and hotkeys all over again. lmk what u think bros!

This seems like it would be so cool, but I feel like I'm going to lose 50 games trying to get used to it if I do it! I'm just not sure it would be the best for me, but I'll try a few games with it. Great write up. Thanks!
|
I switched to this and it is AWESOME. Yes you will lose a lot of games getting used to new hotkeys but thems the breaks, its worth it in the end, I never had upgrade facilities on hotkey before cause I didn't want to reach all the way across the keyboard to hotkey them. I'd thought about doing this for a while, thanks for posting this so I had the motivation to actually do it

There have been so many protoss hotkey revelations, but I want to see some more revolution in the Terran and Zerg Front... T.T

do the same thing, change 6 7 8 9 0 to ` q w r t and then look at everything that got unbound and change it to something within reach of your left hand

I dont have any problem with protoss hotkeys as they are right now, except for the pesky immortal, which i've set to an easier key. I've never really understood why people are talking about apm here. Sure, R is easier to reach than X(pheonix) or whatever, but i can spam buttons all day at 1000 apm but that doesn't make any sense. It's my brain that's blocking me from making more actions.
