Author: Blizzard Entertainment
Description-Basic:1v1, 2v2, FFA
Description-Extended: Your first expansion is easy to defend but additional resources are harder to protect. Rocks can be destroyed to open up additional paths or resources. A Watch Tower marks the center of the map.
this thread might be similar to what you are thinking of making: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=189619 Thanks, this looks kind of like what I'm talking about, but more specifically I was trying to figure out why the Author field does not display and instead the account name seems to display, and since this is the case what the standard is for publishing when one's B.Net account name does not coincide with their TL account name, or other relevant publishing information (like contact email, etc.)
Does all of this just get lumped into the Extended description, or is there a way to get the Author field to show somewhere? And is there a standard for such a thing?
The link doesn't really deal with that sort of thing, but I think the answer would make a good additional bullet point for this post.

Is there a way to remove the doodad footprint after 30 seconds of in-game time? Tried doing it with a trigger, ain't working as intended.

Nvm, there's a unit that has the same properties as the doodad, except when i remove it, the footprint gets removed... whatever

As far as I can tell, it appears that the Author and Description-Basic fields are totally unused :/. At least I haven't been able to find anything.
As for standards for author name, I don't think there is one, i've seen things like <TITLE by AUTHOR> in the title field, or <by AUTHOR> at the start of the extended description field.

I tried editing a couple of the Blizzard maps and changing all the mineral patches to gold minerals and vespene to rich vespene etc. Just for messing around with. I publish the maps fine and the preview shows the gold minerals yet when the map actually loads it reverts back to the standard map with normal minerals.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

This is a very newbie question but it has been stumping me. I made a 1v1 melee map but it wont let me add any spectators, it is impossible to have more than 2 people in the lobby. Is there some setting in the map editor that would have made it like this?
edit: I found the option titled disable observers and it is not checked.

I have encountered this before too, it is because (afaik) Blizzard has to approve the map if it is based off of a downloaded version of their map. I could very well be wrong, but I haven't gotten it to work myself. I think that tournaments like NASL and GOM have to go through Blizzard. Possibly try copy+pasting the terrain and doodads from the Blizzard map and making it in a new canvas?

right click a player in the game lobby, "make spectator" or "make referee"; referee slot can talk to all players, spectators can only talk to spectators

Is there a database online where I can access unit/attack range/current map pool/doodad/etc hex sizes without going into the editor? I want to make a map design tool in Adobe Illustrator where ranges and spacing can be measured before going into the editor to actually create the map.

liquipedia has unit and building data http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Units
and data on the dimensions of some maps http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Maps
I don't think doodads sizes are compiled anywhere, but the only doodads that really matter for gameplay (curtains, trees, pathing blockers) are of size 1x1 I think.

^ Thanks. I started looking at map sizes on Liquidpedia just now.
So many maps in the pool feel too small: Metalopolis, shattered, xelnaga, etc. I'm looking to make a 3 player about terminus size.
|
Ooh, one more question: are map sizes in liquipedia playable size or gross size?
|
Playable.
Btw. not all the informations on LP are correct. XNC for instance is 124x124, not 140x124.

wc3 let you tab through units in a group and while holding down the Cntrl key, you could give specific orders to only the subroup of units
Q: can you add the feature into sc2 in the map editor?
example: you have 5 marines and 2 ghosts all selected. You want to keep all of them selected but have the ghosts move forward while the marines stay still by holding down Cntrl key while you have tab’ed to the ghosts in the control group and giving them a command. Obviously once you let go of the cntrl key, all units move the command and not just the highlighted units.

Is there a list of Melee Map Testers somewhere? I've recently been having a lot of fun poking around and testing out new maps on the forums, and I was wondering if people are more organized or if most mapmakers just use their friends to test, or wait for their maps to get found on the forums, or what have you.

Well there is this thread and also this one. However they are kinda outdated and generally threads like those don't see a lot of activity overall. You can try finding some people in the first linked thread, I'm sure there are several people willing to try out custom maps.
And yes, most mapmakers just play their maps with friends/clanmates afaik.
