Basically the growth of Dota 2 in China is severely restricted by Valve/Perfect World's actions. Thats the biggest thing hurting Dota 2, not WC3 Dota, its largely the same game. Meanwhile, LOL is growing rapidly... yea valve/perfect world is really holding dota 2 growth in China back, but from what I've heard a good portion of Chinese players play WC3 dota over dota 2 due to ease of access and lower system requirements. I could be wrong since I don't follow Dota as closely. This can also definitely change very fast given Dota 2's open beta starting in China. Royal had a decent chance at making a pretty nice comeback until Godlike got caught in the jungle. On October 05 2013 16:20 Slaughter wrote: Is LoL still growing rapidly>? I wonder how much growth they have had over the last year since they were already hitting pretty high numbers before. No numbers released yet, but I'm pretty sure this event is gonna break some records.

You guys are mind-blowing!! Over 1mm ccu for game 1 on Twitch/YT/Azubu/DM, and that doesn't even include the two countries playing!! Dustin Beck @RiotRedBeard 1h Hard to get real-time data from China/Korea, but we'd conservatively estimate another 1mm on their streams. And then there's TV... Dustin Beck @RiotRedBeard 1h TV hard to predict live, but again conservative estimates put it at over 4mm households...best fans ever

Getting keys into dota 2 in China is incredibly difficult still and has been for quite a while. I'm very sure that league has surpassed both dota and dota 2 in popularity at this point. Really sad that Valve is reacting poorly to the situation. I remembered 3 years ago when Valve started Dota2. It took nearly 2 years to get out of beta while LOL took over the moba scene. Even now Valve is slowing ramping up their server capacity. They're too used to taking their own sweet time. That said, at least Valve is smart enough to recognize the potential of moba unlike Blizzard (who ignored their own WC3 Dota for the past 10 years).

Blizzard ignored BW as well, once Activision take control they change that (for bad) also Valve ignore CS
