Team MRN should be talked about. Just so any future new LCS teams realize that Santa Monica is an expensive as fuck city, and if you don't have a healthy amount of sponsors, or if you're not in the top four of the standings continually, there is no reason for you to ever walk near or think about buying a gigantic beach house. Even in the NBA or NFL, the major #1 rule for rookies, who are making MILLIONS A YEAR, is to not be stupid and buy a gigantic house. You're better off just living off the bare minimum and waiting until your next contract to get your dream house. We're talking about guys who are making around $30,000 when it comes to Team Marn. I don't see how anyone could think a beach house would be a smart idea.

Also there is no such thing as OHKO clause vs the AI. Which means you can get an Articuno or Poliwrath from gold and give them both mind reader and OHKO moves for 2 turn guaranteed OHKOs. I don't think this is too reliable though since Articuno is 4x weak vs rock. Also sleep can wear off on the next turn until Gen 5. You are definitely better off using more reliable sweeping strategies like legendaries that fall in the category of useable in the battle tower/subway/tournament. I also found Snorlax quite strong in the battle tower. I recommend one with rest, curse, body slam, and either sleep talk or earthquake. Chesto berry and leftovers both have their strengths here. Also looking through a list of ubers in smogon might give you some good ideas. Eg. Venusaur with Chlorophyll, growth, solar beam, and Ninetails' dream world ability: Drought, can outspeed and ohko/thko just about anything. To the above, I see how Whimiscott can be very strong at helping set up. Especially if it's also possible to get it to learn memento but I don't think it can. How is Entrainment Durant worthwhile? I mean, what's the point of giving your opponent swarm as an ability? On July 09 2013 11:30 cLutZ wrote: This might be G1 talking, but isn't hydro pump terrible with like a 30% miss rate? Pretty sure he was joking. Gyrados has terrible SPAtk which matters in Gen IV and V. Giving him Blizzard, Hydro Pump, and Flamethrower is akin to giving Tryn a deathcap... wait.

Seriously, everyone in high school is tryhard and mad as fuck, trying to make themselves feel better about how insecure they are about themselves, so they act like dicks in their insular universe. Turns out, in the real world, being amicable and honest will take you a hell of a lot further, even if you appear kind of weird. I can't say I blame MRN for their decision, though. There's a strong likelihood that most, if not all, of them will never have an opportunity to live in a beachfront property in Southern California ever again, so even if they encountered foreseeable financial issues, it's not like they're getting sued or are saddled with lots of debt as a result, and I think we'd all be lying if we said it wouldn't be damn cool to live there, even for 4 months. I'm 26 and I would advise 19 year old me to make the decision that they made. EDIT: Although I would definitely advise 19 year old me not to trash the house and be that guy. I'm 21 and just recently applied to Riot. If I get hired and have to move to Santa Monica, I am going to find the shittiest, smallest studio apartment I can find. Renting a beach house without any sponsors and living on Riot's money is fucking ridiculous.

RIP in peace In the most basic terms:
Even if you're not planning on playing competitively, it's good to know what kind of roles you want the Pokemon on your team to play!

Stone evo pokemon are usually best left until later. Check the prevolution list and see what they learn, the evolution likely doesn't learn it. Otherwise, just do whatever. And don't dis ampharos that dude was my nigga in Gold.

Generally you just evolve ASAP. Nintendo did a good thing since now Pokemon generally don't miss out on special moves if you evolve them too early but you get the better base stats from the evolution form. I mean, don't you at best give your opponent swarm as an ability? You get a Durant with Traunt (Dream World Ability). So you give your opponent Truant. Since they can't do anything every odd turn you then swap in a set-up Sweeper with Protect. Use Protect every turn where they can hurt you, use a stat boosting move every other turn, and once you max out your stats you just proceed to OHKO everything. Because the AI hates swapping Pokemon you can basically get infinite turns to set up anything you want this way. EDIT: Ok no more Pokemon talk. If there's demand, we can set up a separate thread in the subforum for Pokemon talk. But enough for Pokemon talk in GD.

I think the MRN thing, regardless of whoever is right or wrong, serves as a good warning and lesson for future teams. There's a lot of things any team needs to consider. And while it's a lot to have so much responsibility and stuff thrust upon a bunch of teenagers who just play games well, it's something very important. It's kind of reasons like this that make me thing the whole "no more than one team under the same brand" sort of thing that's kind of a bummer. I think some newer teams could get a lot of help from more experienced managers watching over them, as well as the whole scrim partner, analysis sharing and pooling of resources. (Just see things like the CJ and MVP sibings teams who train and get better together.)

They became popular overnight, thousands of people talking about them etc. Why not indulge in the rockstar life. If they would have managed to continue being able to play in the LCS none of this would even get discussed. Did they have fun, more than likely yes. Now the dream is over, the fair amount of money they had once now gone. Realization that they could have saved better sure. Everyone has that.

"With the half year salaries and extra money we are giving you, what kind of living arrangement will you be looking for?" A) Roomy, suburb house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. A little run down, but still nice B) Two apartments next to each other. Smaller than a house, but utilities are much less and you'll still be right next to each other C) A beach house in Santa Monica with four rooms, countless bathrooms, a view of the shore, and a pool for good measure If any team picks C, they should be relegated immediately.

They literally spend 24 hours inside (aside from food runs).

BTW since pretty much in NA LCS is spending time at Riot are there any opportunities to go see them or something? It never really dawned on me how close I am to all these pro players D: also I would love to have a pokemon thread. i used to play on shoddybattle in 4th gen and I want to get back into online play (especially since I'll be starting med school soon and am afraid to continue playing League once I start...) but I haven't paid any attention so expert advice would be most welcome

Once/if/when you get hired, you should look into speaking with other Riot employees(smashgizmo maybe if you know him well enough). I believe Riot is very helpful to get living situations sorted out. I believe a lot of Riot employees live with fellow employees as well. It seems like a pretty tight group for the most part. At least, that's usually been the case for most of the people I've spoken with who have worked for Riot(not that I've spoken to that many, might be coincidence too!) That's what people said about Marn the first time. That team formed around 2 weeks before the qualifiers, and did well in the qualifiers. They went 2-0 in their group that included Azure Cats AND Cloud9. They didn't do so well in the upper brackets, but they were the last team to qualify by beating out both Meat Playground, and finally DnG(now essentially VES). So yeah, they didn't really have an easy road. It's part of the reason it SHOULD be talked about. Regardless of what the team/players are doing now, it's definitely news worthy due to how much of an underdog story they were. It's a shame they aren't around anymore, and part of it is due to mismanagement.

It's like how a doctor has to dumb down what they're saying at some point during a visit, I have to remember that not everyone has years of formal schooling on the subject matter and really just wants to know how to get swole.
