I was going to write a long-winded post about how I think this is a closed-minded attitude, how unconditional vision is ridiculously OP, and how people are just too used to using it sloppily and haven't even touched on the huge effect it can have on initiating and engaging lategame fights.
Then I realized that it's probably pointless, and the best way to do this is just to wait 6 months for people to start using CV all the time again, just like the last time I said CV was OP a year ago and nobody listened to me.

I'd prob take it on soraka too, since i primarily play her as a defensive support. I would gladly trade losing my lane for my entire team having superior positioning in every team-fight past the point in the game where both teams have oracles.

So, something else I've been considering for a while that I want people's opinions on: aura items.
Obviously they're hit-or-miss in solo queue, but I've been considering the possibility that through their sheer cost-effectiveness, an arranged team should make the effort to try and get 3-5 of the aura items onto their lineup. While the argument against most of the aura items has traditionally been that they are unlikely to be useful for the majority of the team, this is exceedingly less and less true: Aegis - always the shining example of the aura item that's good for everyone WotA - everyone wants spellvamp. APs are already buying this more and more Stark's - The check for Stark's has always been "are there enough physical damage dealers for this to be worth buying"--considering that the majority of teams played today are triple-physical (AD bot, bruiser top, bruiser jungle), Stark's should be getting bought pretty much all the time (but it isn't) Soul Shroud - Literally the only champs in the game that don't benefit from Soul Shroud are energy champs. If you've got more than 1 energy champ on your team, I can understand not getting this, but otherwise, it's a way under-bought item atm Abyssal - probably the least useful of the aura items, but consider that it's utility complements Stark's--either your team is mostly physical damage, or your team is mostly magic damage--you can't have a team that has nothing-typed damage
Jungler buys Aegis, AP buys WotA, support buys Soul Shroud, and either AD/Jungler/Top buys Stark's OR AP Top/AP-ish Jungle buys Abyssal. You lose out on some personal itemization, but honestly, the boost to your entire team's effectiveness should more than make up for it.

Can someone tell me how to hit Cassio's ult, I got her today and I miss almost everyone of them.

I could help with the taric section, as well as a few other uncommon supports like Maokai or Galio.

I would assume that the basics guide would cover general mindset for playing the role, and not champion-specific stuff (which is reserved for the champ threads).

Honestly, I just casted it normally to learn the range. I would suggest doing that before smartcasting it.

I'd rather just skip Soul Shroud and just get the earlier Stark's or WotA for the support. Soul Shroud honestly doesn't provide a whole heck of a lot for your team, as by the time you get it, the MP regeneration doesn't really help, and I'd rather get the Stark's over the 10% cooldown reduction for the team. I do agree it's under-bought, but rightly so. It doesn't do much.

I don't know if it'll go back to being too good to pass up on every support again but I agree it is still really good. Between wards and the number of abilities that reveal areas or the particle disappears if it connects you can definitely play around not having it. With how much of the top level revolves around fads it seems I'd expect cv to still be really good in certain comps or against a team where you're unsure of their tendencies. I'm hoping that it stays like this but I'm sure if a team loses a major tourney due to no cv everyone will feel it's essential again. Its nice in solo q now not being expected to run cv because it's fotm even though most of solo q doesn't utilize the info it gives.

Soul shroud is pretty much exactly breakeven with only yourself around, if we eyeball the mana regen from meki pendant, and +375 value per person you grant the aura to. For comparison aegis is +100 or so on yourself and +700 per person around you.

I second this! I miss his stream, it was my favorite

For sustain pushing which you should be doing if you decide to invest in three auras since you'll be a lot stronger than the other team soul shroud makes a lot of sense. The CDR aura is very good and while MP5 probably isn't the best aura, it won't go to waste while you're crushing towers and getting further ahead.
|
Soul Shroud is still a really bad item. It compares extremely unfavorably with Philo -> Reverie, and there are far better items to be buying as your second item as a support.
I can't think of anything but the most remote situation in which i'd rather have SS than Reverie, and usually you want a defensive-stats item or occasionally an AP item to pad out your build lategame as a support.
The CDR is way less useful than other offensive stats, because the champions that want it tend to already cap (or try to cap) it. Best case scenario is a couple of people get benefit from it, but even then it's just so weak compared to Reverie's ghost.

I'm talking about Yangos mass aura strategy. It's definitely not my first choice for an aura item on an auraless team.

It's great for quickly turning a fight around. For example, if you're getting ganked, you can sort of bait them into a bad position, and pretend to retreat. As soon as they are close enough to each other and facing you (both within the radius of the cone) you SKRAAAAWWWWWWW and 1v2 them.
There is a slight delay and it takes some getting used to, but I find it one of the strongest and most devastating ults in the game when used right.
It can get a little hairy in team fights, but if you can hit at least 2 of them with the stun, it instantly turns into your teams favor. Even if people are facing away, they get slowed and it does a huge amount of damage. I find people also think the range is shorter than it is, because I catch people from max distance quite often.
