And amongst the 15 or so LoL (sometimes former) players that I know, at least 3 play Lux (even tho one's really bad at her). IF you count me (and ignore the fact that I didn't buy her yet because too similar to Morg), that's 4 out of 16. Conclusive evidence proves that 25% of the people play Lux!
Oh, wait, I know some Karma players too. Even better that way.

Ghost, Janna with her W up and the new Tabi let you move through units as if they didn't exist.
Powerball triggers the "collision" effect as soon as an enemy/neutral unit is within a certain range. So you can't powerball through enemies, but you should be able to cruise through your own minions.
The upgrade to Warmogs now provides you with negative 5 HP5, hooray!

kassadin isnt banned in solo queue because hes super OP. hes banned because he is so strong at roaming and snowballing. you can lose your lane pretty badly CS wise but as long as you don't die and stay even in levels you are still able to roam and kill people in mid game
people use him some in competitive play but hes rarely banned and only sometimes picked. there are much higher priority APs for competitive (ie karthus)
same reason shaco/sion are always banned in solo queue but rarely in competitive play. when your playing with four people that may or may not be retarded you don't want heroes that can gank a lot and snowball off them
tldr: kass got nerfed not because he was too strong and needed it but because people don't like playing against it

Ignoring unit collision is pretty big for melee characters. It's actually quite a big deal in lane, and helps a bit in teamfights as well. Ranged champs get less benefit out of it, but just think about how many times you barely couldn't finish someone off because there were minions blocking your way.

But since most of the time you're choosing between treads and tabi on melees, would you give up tenacity on treads especially considering that the damage mitigation provided my tabi is significantly less after the dodge removal?

Tabis without dodge are utter trash for mitigation. yay 35armour just buy another cloth armour if you really need armour that much and get mercs instead, much better. The difference vs 12% dodge and 10armour vs basically any top lane who use autoattacks is so big, removal of dodge is plain stupid like that.
