I mean if you're talking about pub's there is really no argument on whether or not Kass should get nerfed under the way Riot has consistently balanced the game. Any hero that's picked or banned in solo queue for months on end gets put in the dumpster by Riot. It's also against their design principles to have the game take too much strategy because that's too hard for new players to learn. In tournament play you generally pick your solos last, so if you dont ban Kassadin then you have to make every single pick taking Kass into consideration. Throwing an AD mid isn't a hard counter at all because not only can Kass set themselves up with super regen runes/items they can also be babysat by the jungler. As an AD you can zone Kass assuming nothing else is happening, but if you're zoning when a rammus/maokai comes you get destroyed and lose the lane. The only bruiser that can really stop kass from farming is GP, but theres no guarantee that you're going to have him on team, and whatever you move top to replace him is going to be in a more dangerous lane against a bruiser who can abuse brush (ie they probably get raped just as badly). Is Kassadin unstoppable? no. Is it as simple as swapping your ad mid? no. @blackpaladin if an AD rushes QSS first item then you already shut them down and can just let someone else kill them. They will be a low priority target since they do low damage with no cc. Kass is super fun and I wish every hero was like them but it's just a fact that riot balances the game this way, people just care more because everyone plays kass compared to an unnecessary nerf on someone like fizz that no one cares about. | ||

Kass is super fun and I wish every hero was like them but it's just a fact that riot balances the game this way, people just care more because everyone plays kass compared to an unnecessary nerf on someone like fizz that no one cares about. i agree a lot with the diagnosis of how you can adapt to ad lanes etc. Armor quints and seals are ridiculous amounts of mitigation combined, and with a cloth5pot or regen opening it is possible to farm somewhat. this leads into a bigger discussion on the strength of defensive quints imo, i feel that they're underused for how powerful they are. especially on someone like kassadin who scales off of many stats (mana, ap, etc.) and functions uniquely due to his mobility after getting a baseline (catalyst and or tear etc) of farm, being able to push your way through the rockiest phase of the game if you're expecting to go against a GP or an AD mid by running defensive quints seems natural to me. likewise against earlygame bullies like pantheon and garen i think running armor quints makes those lanes far more handleable than they would be otherwise toplane. the thing is mobility can translate directly into damage mitigated because you can dodge skillshots and aoe's, so someone with absurd mobility like kassadin is very hard to balance. tbh i would prefer it if they gave kassadin back his 700 range q and nerfed the ultimate instead, as it would make his earlygame possible for him as well as hitting his lategame somewhat. | ||

But seeing it's pretty small and they aren't making his range longer than his AA on PAC (which I was lead to believe from the preview) I don't think he'll become more viable. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if TF becomes fotm. There's this fun trend of champion being widely played, then no one plays them after a nerf, then everyone plays them again after a small buff. And, ironically, one of those champions would be Kassadin. These were the two buffs to Kass that made him go from never played in solo que or very much pro play ('cept for xPeke I think) to "omg we must ban/first pick him or we lose!" + Show Spoiler + V1.0.0.125: Void Stone: magic damage reduction increased to 15% from 10%. Null Sphere: missile speed increased to 1400 from 1150. Nether Blade: base magic damage on-hit increased to 30/45/60/75/90 from 20/30/40/50/60. V1.0.0.120: Nether Blade: Passive base mana restore per attack increased to 8/11/14/17/20 from 4/8/12/16/20. Active changed to dealing 20/30/40/50/60 (+0.15 ability power) bonus magic damage dealt on hit for the duration instead of receiving 7/15/25/38/50 armor penetration for the duration. No matter what nerfs Riot gives him Kassadin will simply stop being popular eventually. He always would shit on APs in lane. He always could gank strong. He has always been a strong anti-carry. Most of the buffs that made people play him more apply to a skill that no one ever even levels. | ||
