- Russians around Pokrovsk might be exhausted. Ukrainian commander reports that their attacks are losing intensity as the defenders hold northern parts of the city.
- Intercepted calls reveal that hunger is ravaging Russian frontline units. Deteriorating logistics mean that there's food and water shortages and people are losing weight rapidly.
- Starlink now requires terminal registration which is not available in Russia so they've effectively lost access to it, severely degrading their communications and coordination capabilities.

The temperatures in Kyiv are still below -5 during the day, from people I talk to even in Lviv it's not a great situation, but, then again, I don't hear people despairing, they are used to it by now, still, obligatory fuck those war criminal Russian pieces of shit and admiration to the Ukrainian civilian population, they really suffered immensely and haven't budged, amazing people. Russia does slowly seem to be running out of options, it seems like they, once again, used the winter period of lul in combat operations to intensify their terrorist activities.

Musk, or even Starlink, wasn't the one who chose this. They deliberately gave up control to the US gov in this matter. And they've been working closely with Ukraine to make this happen for a while now

It's not just the men who can't really fight for a long time in -10 or worse cold, I'd be willing to bet that the fuel in a lot of the engines on both sides freezes over, so mechanized attacks can't really be done too much either. Yes, the ground freezes over so tanks and APCs can move over it again, however, I believe that most of these winter months have not seen much movement during this war, this one even more so since the temperatures have been so unforgiving.

US MoD has taken over the control of Starlinks in this area after the whole debacle where Musk was checking out Ukrainian positions via Starlink while on the phone with Putin and turning off their connection during military operations.

Quite a few of the Russians came as soon as the invasion started, none of them were supportive of it or hateful of Ukrainians, still, in my talks with them they still held a lot of pride for Russia and were basically convinced that Russia winning and Putin getting what he wants is just a matter of time. Even for young, smart and tech savvy (this was a gaming company and the guys were mostly programmers and level designers) it was hard to accept how they are being viewed as a country and how badly the invasion is going. There were never fights or arguments between them, but I attribute that mostly to both sides not wanting to go there. Russians who have money and live in places like Moscow and St. Petersburg have lives pretty comparable to European standards, the oppressive parts of the state don't go after them, they have all the amenities we do, and that allows them to still retain their sense of superiority when they come here, the hate, I believe comes from decades of propaganda depicting Europe as soft, gay, woke or whatever you want, this shit is effective everywhere, including many EU countries so it's no wonder it's effective there. In other news, Ukrainians found (it was known they are using this before but they didn't have an intact one) a Gerbera drone (basically Shahed clone) being used as a carrier for a FPV drone, apparently they've been deploying these since 2024 but it's fascinating to see how janky, yet effective it is: ![]()

Getting tree lines, fields and forests under your control is one thing, getting actual towns and cities is quite another, see Avdiivka and Pokrovsk. Russians, if they decide and are able to keep up the pace of losses that come with the intensity of attacks they have been having will have to pay an insane price, their war chest is basically empty, they sold off 70 % of their gold reserves and they are borrowing money under terrible conditions, they don't have 2-3 years of doing this left.

Of course, this is snorting hopium and likely overly optimistic, but, it does track with other authoritarian regimes trying to limit the means of communication in order to snuff out resistance movements. Best case scenario, there are too many fires of dissent happening to arrest everyone so they are trying to go after the means of organizing.

Siversk, Chasiv Yar, Hulaipole has Ukrainians retaking territory. Fights are still ongoing in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. There are even reports of Ukrainians recapturing settlements in Zaporizhia.
