Here is a German news article from March: > https://www.fr.de/wissen/corona-astrazeneca-impfstoff-coronavirus-impfung-nebenwirkungen-thrombosen-blutungen-covid-19-news-90242751.htmlIt takes the vaccinations in GB as a metric. Because until the end of February they vaccinated their people with about 10mio Pfizer and AZ! (so 20mio). "Feedback" of probably vaccine induced maladies (how can we tell if some "effect" was really caused by the vaccine? we are talking many very old people!) were for Pfizer about 33k, AZ 54k. So yeah, AZ had more. But if those numbers are the calculations for "dangerous drug, don't use!" and "get them the nobel prize" I'm going for Sputnik...
Fortunately, the AZ vaccines will just go somewhere else, where they might need them more.
The issue is that the blood clots affect younger people, so the reasoning is that giving them the vaccine is more dangerous than not, especially in a situation with low spread.
Personally, I just want this thing over with ASAP, and vaccines seem like the way to go.
Oh, and in Denmark, there is an outbreak among young children of the Rota virus. The reason they speculate in is that people have too much confidence in cleaning their hands with alcohol while soap and water is much more effective vs that particular virus. Just when I thought alco-geling my hands didn't have downsides...

Well if you think about it, covering poop particles with alcohol kills stuff in the poop, but at the end of the day unless you wash your hands, you still have poop on your hands. Alcohol is just convenience, not safety.

the problem is alcohol doesn't do a good job at killing it

Yep, anything inside the poop particles is well protected from alcohol.
In BC, we're opening vaccine appointments to 18+ this weekend.
The bookings are going to be up to/including late May/early June I think, within the next 3 weeks. I'm hoping we can hit 70-75% of the eligible population first dosed by early June, which should effectively end the primary phase of the pandemic here in BC by mid-June. There'll be a long tail as we try to hit 80+% of eligible people vaccinated, and second doses out to everyone, but we should comfortably have at least half the summer restriction free if enough people get vaccinated (July onwards).
I'm quite disappointed at the USA's progress though. Even with open availability in the states, Canada is on pace to overtake the USA by first dose percentage in the next week. The needle is moving, but not particularly quickly.

Just got my first shot of Pfizer,

Nice! Expect to feel like trash later today or tomorrow, nearly everyone I know (except my dad) had a 24 hour chills, pain, exhausted and perhaps a small fever. This was also pretty vaccine agnostic. The good news is it lifted really fast as well.

My impression is that the pandemic will fizzle out well before 70% is fully vaccinated. My reasoning: -Many are naturally immune (around 30%, but some of them will get vaccinated anyway). -Others were infected, but did not know it. -Even low levels of immunity have helped keeping waves under control. -The virus is infecteous, but there are even worse ones. -The warmer weather helps. -The numbers in Israel are very low and stable, despite some major religious gatherings recently. They have given 121 dosis per 100 inhabitants. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1194939/rate-covid-vaccination-by-county-worldwide/
There is an interresting new take to give the vaccine to younger people first, as there are more cases among people 18-30 than 30-45, and the risks if you get covid are comparable. I have no idea what is more effective, but giving people the shot later than they expect naturally make people angry.
Here is an article about why janssen and AZ are likely going to be axed in Norway. The debate about giving them to volenteers is ongoing. https://www.thelocal.no/20210510/expert-committee-recommends-norway-axe-astrazeneca-and-johnson-johnson-covid-19-vaccines/

Got my COVID (Moderna) vaccine today, 6 hours later the pharmacist calls me and says that the dose is expired..
Now he has no idea on how to proceed. He says the dose isn't effective but i'm honestly not sure, he doesn't know how fast he can re-administer a follow up dose and what impact a 3rd dose will have on me. He's looking into it as we speak. Does anyone here have any extra info?
Only info i was able to find was this: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/astrazeneca-vaccine-expired-shot-pharmacy-1.5980941
Personally, regardless of what he says im gonna ask to wait 28 days before getting the next dose just to be safe. The last dose (which was supposed to be my 2nd dose) is scheduled for Sept. 3rd.

From what I know a fast followup dose is more likely to be functionally wasted than to cause issues. As far as overdosing I'm sure Moderna has studied it during the trials when they work on a dosing regime, and there is probably info somewhere.
I would guess vaccines follow an S-shaped degradation curve, where 90%(or some other figure) occurs after the expiry date, which I believe for these since they are all used almost ASAP is really just on opening, where they have a few hours to use it all.
Also depends on how far expired it was, if it was like a minute you're probably fine, if it's a few hours I'd start worrying and by a day I'd consider the dose useless.

A young lady in Italy got injected with 6 doses of Pfizer's vaccine with nothing out of the ordinary happening.

Testing dosages is a normal part of drug trials so I'm sure they've tested doses higher than the approved ones during clinical trials.

That's more likely to happen after the second shot. Most people I know were fine (other than sore arm) after the first shot. It was the second shot that brought on the other side effects.

Apparently the dose wasn't stored properly and expired. Anyways, I just went in and got a 2nd shot after he got the green light that everything would be ok. It was recommended that I take the 2nd shot now instead of waiting 28 days. If I die, avenge me TL.

o7 we will miss you.
In all honesty though, you're fine. Moderna's studied doses up to 250ug (2.5 doses) https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04470427
Immunogenicity data are currently available for the 25 µg and 100 µg dose level (ages 18-55) after two doses (day 43) and at the 250 µg level (ages 18-55) after one dose (day 29)
The first dose might be partially effective but you'll be at least as protected as you'd normally be, possibly more due to the higher dose.

Just popping in to tell everyone. I got my Johnson and Johnson vaccine about a week and a half ago. Super easy shot didn't even feel it and I'm normally super scared of shots. (it's a phobia I can't help it.) I chose it because I'd rather just have to go once then I have to go twice.
Was tired and a little achy for a couple days after, might have run a small fever too but I'm a week and a half in and that's just about the worst of it and now we're opening things up here for people who are fully vaccinated so my timing was perfect.
|
so how is the usa planning on checking whether people are fully vaccinated or not? are people supposed to be carrying doctors certificates around with them or is it just taking peoples word for it?
|
Here in Germany/Europe, there are apparently plans for digital certificates that proof that you are vaccinated. So, a smartphone/app based solution.
Does the US have similar plans?

You're given a vaccine card after you receive it. I've already read at least a half dozen articles of people trying to fake them and being arrested. Which is stupid as hell considering the vaccine is free.
I don't know of any places that are requiring vaccine cards at the moment in place of say face masks except for sports stadiums. Perhaps more places will start asking for them in the future, I'm not sure. I have my vaccine card on top of my dresser it's a little too big for my wallet but if I had to carry it around I easily could.

In Poland so far the only governemnt mandated advantage of being vaccinated is that You do not count towards event limits. So for example if it says that You can have a maximum of 50 people at wedding what it realy means 50 unvaccinated people + any number of vaccinated.
Second day after receiving vaccine - the only sideeffect is minor pain in my arm. I am avoding exhausting activities and trying to not stress my body.
