But this is just sick, i hope they get a harsh punishment jail not completely sure but something to make them learn why they are wrong. A hate crime is defined as: "criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender's bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual orientation." Crimes are worse when they are acted upon because of bigoted opinions. The reason why? We're attempting to create a society where such things don't happen period, so the idea is that by punishing it worse, it slowly eliminates the behavior. Whether it works or not I don't know, but that's the idea. | ||

Hate crime is a legal term (at least in sweden), and its used when someone attacks you for either you sexuality or you ethnicity and maybe someting more(edit, see above post)... It doesnt have to be a minority, if 3 black kids beat up a white kid just because he is white they will be charge with hate crime. I actually think the law makes perfect sense. | ||

Whether this guy was gay or not doesn't really matter. I don't really think the discrimination is important here, it's a kid getting the shit beat out of him in the middle of a classroom. | ||

People are allowed to think whatever they want. Yes, its awful that people think this way, but they do, and in a free society we have to tolerate it. Its there to make sure that we dont see one different better then the other different.
