I was on huffington post and saw this rather disturbing and sickening article. A student was attacked inside a classroom while arriving to class. The bully had waited for the student to arrive to attack the kid for no other reason then his sexual orientation.
Bad enough it happened. No bystanders tried to help the poor kid. Only going so far as to record it on their cellphone as it was preplanned.
What disturbes me even more is that the kid only recieved a 3 day suspension. Personally I think that is way to little.

A few things to note 1, punishment was given before video was discovered. 2, This seemed to be a common occurance that the boy was being harassed because of his sexuality 3, police had come to the school but it seems nothing was done about it.
Pretty simple to me. Expelled from school. He's shown he is a threat to others and can't control his actions. Anyone adult that age that suffers from the same "symptons" gets sent to jail.
I would never advocate getting police involved in your run of the mill school fight, but that was a straight up assault and should be prosecuted as such.
I think there should police involvement and charges against both the bully and a look into his family life, the parents need to be held accountable for the child's actions, clearly they are teaching him is manners.

I don't like the term "Hate crime". Aren't all crimes hate crimes?
The term makes it seem like some crimes are worse than others just because the victim belonged to a minority. What difference does it make that the victim was gay, and targeted because of this? If justice actually IS blind, it can't be reasonably taken into account.

Throw the parents in prison first.
Parents are to blame for poor parenting, yes, but ultimately the kid is the one that did it.
They're in high school, it's not like he's a 8 year old kid. At that point, you know what you're doing, sort of.
There's no indication that poor parenting was necessarily involved. There comes a time when people make their own decisions, regardless of how their parents raised them.
