Appearantly this photo whas taken one day before the massacre
+ Show Spoiler +
The photo is currently accompanied on various sites with a news article of about 5 days old.
+ Show Spoiler +Norway will support Palestinians who are set to press for recognition of the independence of their state by the United Nations, says the Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. He was speaking following his talks in Oslo with the Palestinian National Administration Head Mahmoud Abbas. Støre said he saw a likely recognition of Palestine’s independence by the United Nations as no hindrance to a peaceful settlement in the Middle East. He said the Palestinian-Israeli talks should continue irrespectively of the UN voting results. source: http://english.ruvr.ru/2011/07/19/53408557.html
Maybe this act of mass killing whas a retaliation of some sort and perhaps the manifesto whas just a diversion?

Oh wow, it has some references to a Finnish True Finn politician, Jussi Halla-Aho(Who's very anti-immigrant etc).
This whole thing seems so surreal. He seems very intelligent and methodical and he obviously believes he's doing the right thing.
I really wonder what kind of a speech he's going to give on monday. Some propaganda speech about his ideals?
In my opinion, there is a very high chance that he's going to get some followers, especially if his speech is good.
This is quite scary, really. This person isn't an ordinary murderer at all. I've been thinking about everything alot and it seems like... he just wanted to make a massacre that would hit all the news so that his views and visions would get more exposure.
My condolences to everyone who this has affected.

my heart goes out to all those effected.....

Nearly thousand pages isn't a diversion for something like that. The guy was pro-Israel though, and the social democrats there are anti-Israel so having that banner there isn't a surprise.

If anything we need more cooperation and less nationalism to combat these people. As norwegian prime minister so inspirationally stated.
Maybe it is because in days like these it becomes really clear how close and similar our cultures are but I feel that the discussion of a nordic union that has gained strength recently really should be something to seriously consider.

These are the scariest people alive: people who are endeared to a cause and take radical steps to achieve what they think is their goal.
RIP people of Norway.

The main issue right now is people assuming this is over. I'd assume it's far from it. This guy has planned every single step (including his arrest) so far, I'd assume there will be either more coming from his "cell" once the trial begins and/or him holding some prepared speeches in there.
Someone who actually thinks about tactics to get the most kills possible on such a thing and writing them down definitly won't go into this unprepared.
Though, personally, I'd love to see someone who actually tries to get behind this sick brain to make him crack. I've seen similar things on incidents of rapists and that seems the only way to make those people shut up in some cases.

It's definitely something to consider imo. All the Nordic countries have very similar ideals and are already very close. Heck I've pretty much been mourning ever since the attack, like my own country got attacked.
My personal opinion on immigrants is that the only thing the country should try to 'force' is that the immigrants become parts of the countries society rather than get isolated. That is the biggest danger and before the icelandic bank sector came crumbling down, this was a very real issue in Iceland(After it, most immigrants have moved back to their previous home).

Where you got the information from he will give a speech on monday?
|
Well, I've been reading it for six hours. It's written in different styles, and with huge differences in the amount of work put into the text. A lot of information is in several places. Most interesting might be to read the diary at the end. The section before that is a rather lengthy interview, seemingly him interviewing himself, which together with his speeches prepared for a trial is also somewhat enlightening as to his motives. The very lengthy first part, his analysis of society, I didn't read, so I can't say anything about that.
One segment that I'd like to highlight is where he discuss what happened with the other 10-ish people that he met. He returns several times to him being much younger than the others, and explains that the others were patient, and discussions were focused on politics, not on instigating this kind of action. If anyone else has read this segment as well, would you agree that it sounds sort of likely that this dude might have been the only one who actually planned this sort of action?
Of course as previously mentioned, if enough people read this more fools might be inspired, but it is actually encouraging that this doesn't seem easy at all. There were numerous occasions where he was close to being detected.

Btw this is here if anyone wants, you can google translate or something I guess. There's quite a bit of info, it's like a compilation of everything.

Reading his 1500 page book is absolutely crazy, skipping all his ideolegies witch are just rediculous, you get to the scary part. The way he planned this whole thing is astounding, it's on the borderline highly intelligent and insane.

Aye, we share the same history, culture and to much extent language. Closer cooperation just makes so much sense, and in a way it makes more sense in days like these.
In many ways the nordic countries are a lot like the many german states and the many italian states way back in history. Several smaller states with the same language, culture, traditions and way of life. The only difference is that while germany and italy managed to unite, circumstances and kings and queens more interested in their own petty power prevented nordic unification.

First half is mostly copy-pasted from various blogs that he seemed to frequently read, as you can see in the references. So he didn´t really write most of this stuff himself.

"I’ve spent a total of 9 years of my life working on this project. The first five years were spent studying and creating a financial base, and the last three years was spent working full time with research, compilation and writing. Creating this compendium has personally cost me a total of 317 000 Euros."
Sounds like a lot of effort for just copying blogs.

How is Norway going to deal with this guy? Since he surrendered he's going to go into Norway's justice system, which as I understand it is very lax on sentencing (no such thing as death penalty, no such thing as a real life term). Isn't he going to be out in 10-20 years for good behavior no matter what the judges sentence him too? Isn't that in the law somewhere, that there is a pretty low max punishment?

Why inappropriate and offensive? Because of what the writer did or because of what is written down?

I think you are buying into his own grandeur a bit. It's not like some genius plan, but more like something that requires normal intelligence and a lot of ambition, apart from the twisted ideals. I think it probably ends here for him and his follow up if anything is to try and sell his crap even more in court. Does anyone know exactly how that works btw? I'm thinking that even behind closed doors transcripts would be public information.
Parts of that manifest were just ripped off from other websites btw. Just ctrl+c and minor edits.

Read the OP. Not trying to single you out, but I hope we eventually stop seeing the trickle of people in this thread saying "oh, but he'll be released in 21 years." or something similar.
He will, with 99.999999999999% certainty, be locked away for the rest of his life, barring some sort of vigilante justice or other such event. He certainly will not be let out of prison in any legal manner.
