MOD EDIT: There is also a lot of good information in r.Evo's post
With this thread I'll try to gather some information and make a proper OP about the events that occurred in Norway yesterday. I'll update it as time goes by with more information, sources, pictures etc. Thanks to r.Evo for links and pictures, and Plexa for fixing the title
At 15:30 or so a bomb went of in government block in Norway. Complete panic ensued and no one had any idea what had happened, who were behind it, and what was going to happen in the coming hours. All the news stations started broadcasting all the information they could get their hands on and in less than an hour, our whole nation was watching the news, desperate to find out who were hurt, and how serious was this. At this time I was personally working in a shop, and it was scary seeing how we had about 1/5 of our normal customers.
The situation in the city centre was slowly getting under control and it was being speculated on who could have done this. Was it some kind of terrorist attack? Was it a lunatic blowing himself up? Or was it something else entirely? At one point, some organisation calling themselves something something of Al-Qaida claimed to be behind it, this turned out to be false.
In the aftermath and confusion around the bombing, news started emerging about a man dressed in a police uniform (enough of a uniform to make him look like police at least, he also had a bulletproof vest) who were shooting people at an island called Utøya. The norwegian Labour party were holding a political summer camp here, where people came for fun to discuss and learn. At first there was in general very little information about what was happening, but there were calls, facebook updates and twitters from terrified teenagers and youths. This was, I believe, around 5 or 6 pm in Norway. The police eventually got to the island and at some point they arrested a man who was then brought in for interrogation. The number of dead at this point wasn't confirmed I think (I was at work, so no news for me) but it was updated to I think 7 dead in Oslo, and 10 dead at Utøya, with more casualties being expected. The prime minister and justice(?) minister held a press conference which they handled marvelously. The apprehended person was now revealed to be norwegian. This stopped the theories about this being a terror attack, which had been the running theory both around the world, and on the norwegian news channels. In the hours after the bombing there were also reports of muslims, and in general people from the east being harassed, these also stopped when he was revealed to be norwegian.
The police had their own press conference, but I don't remember too much about it right now. Some stuff was confirmed etc I guess, I think they said that he was 32 years old at this point? The police had suspicions that there might be a bomb on the island too, which it turned out there was. As far as I know, the police handled it without any incident
The police also issued a blurred picture of the apprehended person, and in conjunction with them searching an apartment people started to speculate as to who this person could be. It took a surprisingly short amount of time before people had pretty much found out who it was. His name was Anders Behring Breivik, a 32 yo from the west part of Oslo. The night kept going with an increasing amount of interviews from teenagers who were clearly in shock telling about their experience and what they had lived through. Some of these interviews were really sad and hard to watch.
The king also adressed the nation at one point, though I'm not sure as to when this was, telling everyone to stay strong and that his heart went out to the families of the victims.
Around 4:30 am here in Norway, the police went out and updated the estimated amount of victims on Utøya to be, atleast, 80 persons. This number is suspected to rise during further today.
Here is also a blog I translated by one of the survivors from the island: + Show Spoiler +This is a blog post from a norwegian member of the Labour party who was at Utøya during the shooting. Sorry about any confusion with this being me, complete fail. It's half past six, and I'm also trying to make a new OP with complete information about everything that has happened.
I'm still in shock. Just got home. Was driven home by Prableens father from Sundvollen hotell. I'm actually still in shock. I can't get a single tear out. I can't believe it: Today I actually almost got killed. Hunted down and killed.
What can I say? The last normal thought I had was about the student organization in AUF. I had just been to a political workshop (it's what we're doing here on Utøya) - and I was on my way up to the AUF-store where I had "guard" duty
A good friend of mine came over and told me about the explosion that had occurred somewhere in Oslo. Sick! The government block and Youngstorget?! (place close by). A lot of people were concerned. The mood was, mildly put, not good, many thought that this was Utøyas worst moment this year, but then more happened. I had a lump in my throat. The biggest one ever.
We were first called to a information meeting with the leaders so that everyone got the same, and correct, information. This meeting was useful and went well. Almost everyone got hold of their family members in Oslo and got to check if everyone was alive.
I didn't get hold of my family for a very long time! When I finally did get confirmation that three of them weren't in Oslo, and the last one was far from the city center - then I could breathe. Properly. I went down to the AUF store. The general secretary Tonje Brenna came over and talked to me. Asked if I needed someone to talk to. Then we heard shots from down the hill. Who the fuck is kidding now, we thought? Who could possibly believe that this wasn't a joke. Suddenly all the guys on guard duty are running up the hill and shouting "hide!" "Run into the main building" etc. I ran into the outdoors toilet at the AUF store. The shots got closer. I was very sure this was all some kind of prank, but you can't be sure, this day had proven that much. The seconds spent inside that toilet were hell. Slowly buy surely I put my cellphone to vibration(no sound) and I put it in my bra so that I wouldn't loose it. I put my purse on the floor. When I finally heard the voice of someone I knew, I stepped outside.
But it wasn't over. We had to run past the NATO toilet (as it was called) and down towards the corner, the right side of the dock. We fell through a lot of bushes and big stones and I got a lot of cuts. We were a group of about 15-20 persons maybe. I was stressed. Matti held me and calmed me down.
We ran and ran. The worst part was when we found out he was dressed as a cop: The guy shooting was dressed a chop. Fuck. Who can we trust then? If we call the police - that's the guy that will come to check on things?
But we tried to call the cops! They used a fuckton of time. I gave my phone to Munir and told him to update facebook, tell everyone with a boat to help us.
We ran back and forth when the shots got closer. Matti said we had to swim. But how could I manage that, it was sooo far.
Trond Agnar sudden showed up. He said many had tried to swim, but they had ended up swimming back because it was too cold, too long, too hard. But you know what? I'd rather drown than be shot. Sorry. I took of my shirt and with some encouragement Matti I started swimming. It started to get heavy so I had to take of my pants. It was freeeezing.
I swam. Matti saved me. He said the right things and did the right tings. He got me to swim - SO long. When we had been swimming for a while Matti said "Kamzy, dont look back. Look straight forward to that piece of land and think about how that's your goal.
"Ok" I said. We heard shots all the time, and I'm still surprised Matti and I didn't get hit.
(I found out afterwards that he stood there. That was the reason Matti told me to look straight ahead. He was standing right where we had been hiding a few minutes ago. Oh my god! And he tried to shoot us. We were being hunted.)
I kept swimming. Then a few boats came and saved us. One of the boats threw out lifesaving vests and then had to go away. The next boat then came and saved us. Even though we were in the boat, I couldn't relax. It was none of the "Yes, we've been saved"-spirit. He can still hit us with his machine gun! I sat down on the deck immediately. I didn't feel safe. Not at all.
Some of the people living there helped us when we got to the shore. They gave us towels and drove us to a gas station where the police and the paramedics were waiting. I was in shock. Couldn't press out a single tear. I still haven't realized what has happened?
Sunganthan came over to me with my cellphone and was sorry that it didn't work anymore. Dear Sunganthan, I'm just happy you're alive!
Anniken Huitfeldt (she's the minister of culture) called me and talked to me. I didn't know who owned the phone, there was just a girl who came over and said Anniken wants to talk. I asked her: "Why the fuck did the police take such a long time to arrive?" She agreed. And tried to calm me, and ask me what had happened.
There was a really nice girl who worked there that gave us warm clothes and something warm to drink. I also got to call my dad. I'm glad he can handle such things a bit calmly - although he was very distressed.
And then we went onwards to Sundvollen hotel where everyone was supposed to meet. We registered and gathered up.
We were the first who got there. And therefore we could see people coming in one by one, crying their eyes out. I understand them very well. I just didn't understand, and still can't understand, why I couldn't get a single tear out. I wanted out of this this state of shock I'm still in. I want out of here. I rode home to my dad with Prableen.
I'm still in shock. Who does something like this? Blows up important buildings in Oslo and kills the future politicians of the labour party who are just attending a summer camp. What wrong have we done?!
Those who ressort to violence have run out of arguments. How could he do what he did to my AUF friends? This seems so surreal. I don't get it. I don't understand.
I recommend everyone go watch the press conference with Jens Stoltenberg and Knut Storberget
"None shall bomb us to silence. None shall shoot us to silence" - Jens Stoltenberg says this, and I couldn't agree more.
First and foremost all my thoughts go out the loved ones. This is when we take care of each other. Support and lift each other upwards. Comfort one and other. And show the most loving part of ourselves.
But I'm still in shock. And that's why I'm writing this blog. I can't tel the story over and over again. This is what happened to me in a short summary. To me. But the fear that was there all the time... I don't think I'm able to put it into words. We were given messages about who were shot and killed on the fly, but I have left this out due to respect for those who are dead. They deserve better.
We don't deserve to die either. And that is why I'm writing this blog. We're just regular youth. We're interested in politics. We want to make the world a better place - I missed the part where WE became the bad guys
Thinking about everyone who was out there on the island.
I really hope everyone makes it. You deserve better.
It was important for me to get this out. It IS important.

Short Q/A for some questions that might occur:
The maximum jail time for murder is 21 years. However, you can be put into what we call "Forvaring". Forvaring is basically the same as prison, but instead of being there as your punishment, you are deemed to dangerous to be put back into society. This sentence can be up to 21 years. When the sentence is almost up, the persons behavior and current situation will be reaccessed, and if he is deemed fit to go back to society, he will be let into society. If he is deemed unfit, he can be put into another 5 years of Forvaring. This process repeats until the person is either let back into society, or he dies. Wikipedia link on the same thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_imprisonment_in_Norway (Thanks Laevateinn) The reason that so many were gathered on such a little place with no security is pretty much that no one would deem this even remotely possible at all, and thus protection against it was slim no non existant.
The police took a long time to get there, as far as I know, due to a lot of focus being on the bomb site, at the same time the weather was bad, making helicopters a rough choice. It's also quite a distance from the city center to Utøya so shit took time. Should it have been faster, yeah, but sadly it wasn't.

EDIT: this is an amazing post from deep within this thread:
On July 23 2011 20:41 Aylear wrote:If I may, I want to briefly give some opinions on how we as a nation have handled this thus far. Some of you may have read my post in the other thread ( my reply here), and this is a bit of clarification and some more of the same. It may surprise some of you - especially if you live in the United States, where sensationalism and fear drives the news - to know that the government, the police department, and the media have all been very honest and straightforward in covering this tragedy, and that the people of Norway remain calm and composed (if a lot more sombre than usual) despite the enormity of the tragedy. For instance, after the explosion and the early reports of the shooting on Utøya, the news simply recycled what they had previously stated: That a bomb had exploded in or near a government office building, that there was a related shooting in a political youth camp on Utøya, and that people had been killed in both of these cases. The ticker line at the bottom of the screen wasn't some quote from a news anchor or the prime minister -- it was the phone number for a hotline offered to the families of the victims. From the first, there was no public outcry of, how did this happen, how did you let this happen, who is responsible for this travesty. There was no speculation or debate, no expert-witness criticism of foreign or domestic policy, no guesswork. In fact, when an Islamic extremist group claimed responsibility for the attack, few newspapers even deigned it worthy of mention -- the claim was either ignored completely, or there was a small notice buried under other headlines dealing with the actual facts. At the end of the day, it seems that this was the correct approach: The entire tragedy now appears to be the work of one individual, who in fact had anti-Islamic views. Planned, yes, and executed with chilling efficiency, but to muddy the waters with sensationalist guesswork like some news channels in the UK, the US, and elsewhere did before they even had any of the facts in hand is the kind of thing that can partially obfuscate the actual events in retrospect, especially for onlookers abroad that by nature get a more peripheral glance. In that regard, I am very impressed with how the aftermath has been handled locally. Later yesterday evening, the prime minister and the minister of justice held a press conference. It was excellently handled. The prime minister, his expression stoic, opened by saying that this abhorrent event will not bring Norway down; that we will be able to remain proud of our strong democracy, and that the open discourse and debate on every topic - no matter how controversial that topic may be - which has been a staple of our freedom of speech, will remain intact -- that we will not be cowed into silence, and that our politics should become even more open in the aftermath, as that is the correct response when faced with this kind of terror. He also stated that the first priority over the coming days is to save lives, and to provide medical aid to the victims. Later on, there will be further statements as regards to the perpetrator, but for the moment the focus is completely on providing immediate aid. The media questions at the press conference were of a similar nature: Who is this man, has he given a motive for his actions, what will you do in the coming days, can you clarify this one small thing. Very to the point. And, again, worth of note and admiration: When asked his opinion on the alleged claim of responsibility by the Islamic extremist group, the prime minister said simply, "These groups often claim responsibility for actions they had nothing to do with in an attempt to seem more capable than they really are." It was a great response. All in all, I admire how the aftermath of this terrible incident was dealt with, and how open and honest the police, the government, and (most of all) the media have been in reporting this obscenity to us and the rest of the world. --- To switch topics a bit, I've noticed that some people appear to be baffled at our justice system. I will address this briefly by taking on this composite quote: "He deserves to fry. Norway's justice system is retarded for giving him decent living conditions for the rest of his life."Really? Killing this human being would bring back the other human beings? Would it lessen the blow of our loss? Most Norwegians don't see it that way; we don't agree with this biblical desire for vengeance. Granted, in this particular case I'm sure some Norwegians will feel differently, but we aren't going to completely alter our justice system for just one man. Even this depraved individual will not get that dubious honour. Our justice system is one of rehabilitation and reintroduction to society. Those individuals who are simply too damaged to ever be released (of which there are very few) are simply imprisoned for life. Bad people, yes, but still human beings. We won't publicly kill a fellow human being just because we feel like it, out of some desire for revenge. How is that any better than killing someone over an ideological viewpoint? Both are abhorrent. Both are murder. As for us having a "retarded" justice system? While you were reading about the appallingly decent living conditions provided to our prison population and the leniency granted to our criminals, you should have also looked up some numbers, namely the per capita crime rate and the number of repeat offenders. In both cases, that number is extremely low. The justice system is working a hell of a lot better than that of most countries. Lastly, the comment that the political youth camp equals indoctrination and likening it to Hitler-Jugend is so ignorant and insulting that I don't even want to tarnish the English language by crafting a response to it, but I'll call it out anyway in order to prevent its propagation as anything but drivel: The young men and women who suffered this living nightmare yesterday were nothing more than enthusiastic youths who were personally and voluntarily interested and engaged in politics, young men and women who take an interest in and care about how the government runs their home. So, with all that said, how is our country failing again? Please, let us know -- we desperately need to improve our standing in the Human Development Index. Seriously, can we at least agree that this misguided socialist country of ours appears to be doing something right? --- I'll end on a much more optimistic note. I mentioned this in my previous post as well, but it's worth repeating: Shortly after the call went out for blood donors, hospitals had to start publicly declining offers from further donors because they had already acquired more than enough of even the rarer blood types. That's how quickly Oslo responded. I think I'm more happy about that than anything else.

The purpose of this post is to educate people about the events and bring all the pieces together. To sum up the last two threads on this in one sentence: Norway, we're with you.
Please do not derail the topic with any discussions about gun laws, death penalties and similar issues. The original OP has some detailed information about this.

The Shooting
+ Show Spoiler +Wiki quote to summarize events: + Show Spoiler +Approximately two hours after the Oslo explosion,[14] a gunman in police clothes, believed to be Anders Behring Breivik,[28] boarded a ferry about 40 kilometres (25 miles) northwest of Oslo at the lake Tyrifjorden to the island of Utøya,[29] the location of[14] the Labour Party's traditional Workers' Youth League (AUF) youth summer camp, that has been organized annually since the 1950s.[citation needed] Once he had gained access to the island, the gunman at some point engaged in a systematic shooting spree amidst the mainly adolescent campers, before finally being apprehended. Police believe the shooting incident is linked to the earlier bombing incident.[14][30]
The shooter presented himself as a police officer, who had come over for a routine check following the bombing event in Oslo. He signaled and asked people to gather around him[31] before indiscriminately firing his weapons,[32][33] killing and injuring numerous people. He first shot people on the island and later started shooting at people who were trying to escape by swimming through the lake.[34] A spokesman for the National Police Directorate under the Ministry of Justice and Police reported that most of the casualties were youths of about 15 and 16 years old.[35] Some witnesses on the island were reported to have hidden in bathrooms or undergrowth, communicating by text message to avoid giving their positions away to the gunman.[36]
According to an eyewitness, it took police more than two hours to arrive at the scene, while another source put the police response time at thirty minutes.[37]. When the police arrived at the scene, they were confronted with a scene of survivors begging the officers to throw away their weapons, as they were afraid that the men in uniforms would again open fire on them.[38]

I can't sleep anymore. i'm sitting in the living room. Feeling sorrow, anger, happiness, God i dont know what. It's just too many emotions, too many thoughts. I'm scared. I react to even the smallest sound. I'll now write about what happened at Utøya. Hva my eyes saw, what i felt, what i did. the words come straight from the hear, but i will keep out the names out of respect for my friends.
We had a crisis meeting in the main building after the explosions in Oslo. Afterwards there was a meeting for the members from the Oslo-area. After the meetings many, many of us were in and around the main building. Vi took comfort in the fact that we were safe on an island. No one knew hell would break loose here as well.
I was in the main hall when panic broke loose. I heard shots. I saw him firing. Everybody started running. My first thought was: "Why are the police shooting at us? What the hell?!" I ran into the small gathering room. People were running. Screaming. I was scared. I got into one of the rooms at the back of the building. We were many there. We were all laying on the floor. we hear more shots. Got more scared. I cried. I didn't understand anything. I saw my best friend through the window and wondered if I should go out to get him in. I didn't have time. I saw the fear in his eyes. We remained on the floor for several minutes. We agreed to not let anyone else in for fear of the killer. We heard more shots and decided to jump out the window. I was the last one and though: "I'm the last on out the window. I'm gonna die now. Im sure, but it's propably allright, at least i'll know the others are safe". I threw my bag out the window. Tried climbing down, but lost my grip. I landed hard on my left side. A boy helped me up. We ran into the woods. I looked around. "Is he here? Is he shooting at me? Does he see me?" A girl had broken her ankle. Another one was badly wounded. I tried to help before i headed for the water. I took cover behind some kind of brick wall. We were many. I prayed, prayed, prayed. I hoped that God was watching. I called my mom and told her we might not meet again, but that i would do everything to survive. I could hear the fear in her voice. Shed cried. It hust. I sent my dad a text, told him i loved him. I sent a text to another loved one. We kept in contact. I sent my best friend a text. He didn't answer. We heard more shots. Crept together. Did anything we could to stay warm. So many thoughts. I was scared. My dad called. I cried and told him i loved him. He said he was on his way with my brother to receive me when i got ashore or they got to the island. So many emotions, and so many thoughts. I prayed with all my heart. Some time passed. The others called their parents. Eventually we all started texting fearing the kille would hear us. I was thinking about my sister, who was away on vacation. How would i tell here how i was? what was happening to me? I updated twitter and facebook saying i was alive and "safe" for the time being. I wrote i was waiting for the police. People were jumping into the water and started swimming. I remained still. I decided i would play dead if he came. I wouldn't run or swim. I can't describe the fear, my thoughts or my emotions.
A man came. "I'm from the police". I kept still. Some yelled that he needed to prove it. I can't remember exactly what they said, but the killer started shooting. He reloaded. Fired some more. He shot those around med. I kept still thinking "It's over. He's here. He's going to take me. I'll die." People screamed. I heard others being shot. Others jumped in the water. I kept still. Phone in hand. I lay on top of the legs of a girl. Two others were lying over my legs. I remained still. Texts were coming in. My cell rang several times. I kept playing dead I acted dead for at least an hour. I carefully turned my head, looking for suvivors. I saw bodies. I saw blood. Fear. I decided to get up. I had been lying on a dead body. Two dead bodies had been lying on me. I had a guardian angel.
I didn't know if he would come back. I didn't have the courage to look at who had called or texted me. I ran for the water. took of my sweater. It was big. I thought it would be hard to swim with it. I considered taking my cell or letting it lay. I put it in my back pocket and went in. I saw several others in the water. They had swam far. Some had gathered around some kind of floating device, it looked like an inflatable boat. Loads of boats were picking up swimmers. I swam, swam and swam towards the floating thing. i screamed. Cried. Got cold. Thought about when i would drown. It got heavier and heavier. I prayed. I kept going. My arms were spent. I kept going on my back using only my legs. I started sinking. Went back to normal swimming. For a while i thought the inflatable boat was moving away from me. I screamed. Begged them to wait for me. I must have been seeing things. I swam some hundred metesrs before i reached it. We talked some. Told each other our names, were we came from. WHen the boats went past we screamed for help, but they picked up the swimmers first. A man in a boat came to us. he threw out life vests. I got one. Got it on me. I held on to the rubber boat until the same man came back and picked us up. Everyone got aboard. He started heading for shore. After a while the small boat started taking in water. I did everything i could to get it out, using a bucket. I got tired. A girl in the boat took over. We came to shore. We got blankets. Tears were building. I cried more. A woman hugged me. It felt so good. I was crying loudly. Sobbing. A man lent me his phone. I called my dad: "I'm alive. I made it. Im safe" I hung up. Cried more. We had to walk a while. Strangers took us in their cars and drove us to Sundvolden Hotell. I ran in to look for my best friend. I couldn't see him anywhere. I saw a female friend. I cried. We hugged for a long time. It felt good. I walked aoround, looking for friends. My heart was beating hard. I was still crying. I registered at the Police. Looked through the lists. I didn't if my best friend was a live. Couldn't find his name anywhere. I was scared. Someone gave me a blanket. Took off my wet socks. I was half naked. Someone gave me a coat. I tried to get myself together. Contacted my parents again. Dad and my big brother were on the way to get me. I drank some cocoa. Sat down. Thinking. Crying. I saw more of my friends. hugged them. Cried. Someone lent me a computer. I updated facebook and twitter again that I was safe. I was at the hotel for several hours before my family came. Looking for friends. Talked to a Priest. Told him what i'd seen. It was a good conversation. A paramedic looked at my wounds. Cleaned them. Time went. I was with some of my friends. everyone was talking about the same. How we had survived. What had happened. I asked several if they'd seen my best friends. Noone had. I was scared. thought it was my fault cause we hadn't stuck together. A friend got the key to a hotelroom. We sat there watching the news. Anger, sorrow, so many emotions going through us. My dad called, they had arrived. I took the elevator down. tan out to them. Hugged my brother and my dead for a long time. I cried. My brother cried. It was a good moment. I saw someone looking like my best friend. Shouted his name. He turned. It was him. We hugged for a long time. both of us crying we asked how we'd made it. After a while i registered abain and we drove home. Some others got a lift from us. My best friend came home with us. His brother was there with his best friend. People were gathered at my house. They wouldn't leave until they knew we were okay. We talked. I drank a glass of juice. Ate a Yoghurt. Talked with my mom and my family. Called my best female friend. It was a good call. She said: "I wasn't sure i would ever get this phone call." tears were welling up. We talked for a while. Afterwards i went to bed. It was three o'clock. Mom refused to let me sleep alone, so we slept together.
Some hours have passe. Im still in shock. It still hasnt sunk in. I've seen the bodies of my friends. Several friends are still missing. I'm happy i can swim. Happy to be alive. That God was watching out for me. So many emotions, so man thoughts. I think about the all the people who have lost someone. All the people i have lost. The hell that is and was on the island. Kamzy´s gripping account of fleeing for her life can be found in Norwegian at her blog http://kamzy.no/2011/07/23/den-verste-dagen-i-mitt-liv/ Below you have my English translation - word by word. Love to Kamzy and all others touched by this unbelievable tragedy ----- "The worst day of my life" I´m still in shock. Just got home. Prableen´s dad drove us from Sundvollen Hotel. I´m actually still in shock. I can´t shed a single tear. I can´t believe it: Today I actually almost got killed. Hunted and killed. What can I say? The last normal thought in my head was about the AUF´s organization of students. I had just been to a political workshop (that´s what we do at Utøya) – and was on my way up tp the AUF-shop where I was going to take a shift. A good friend came over and informed me of the explosion that had happened in oslo. Sick! The Government-block and Youngstorget?! Of course many were concerned. The atmosphere wasn´t exactly great, many thought this to be the worst moment at Utøya this year, but then things started happening. I had a lump in my throat. The biggest one ever. We were first summoned to an info-meeting by the leaders in order for everyone to get the same (and correct) information. This meeting was helpful and went well. Most people got hold of their family members in Oslo and checked that they were alive. I couldn´t get hold of anyone in my family for ages! When I finally got a confirmation that three of them we´re out of town and that one was at work far away from the city – then I could breath. Really. I went back to the AUF-shop. The General Secretary Tonje Brenna came over and spoke to me. Wondered if I needed someone to talk to. Then we heard shots from down the hill. Who the fuck is fooling around now, we thought. Who didn´t think it was just a joke? Suddenly I saw all the security guys running upwards telling us “to hide”, “run into the main building” etc. I ran to the loos just by the AUF-shop. The shots came closer. I was quite sure that this was some “joke”, but you can nevner know for sure, as today has shown us. The seconds in that loo were horrible. Slowly but surely I managed to set my mobile to silent and put it in my bra so I wouldn´t loose it. I took of my purse and put it on the floor. When I finally heard a familiar voice I came out. But it wasn´t over. We had to run behind the NATO-loo (as it´s called) and downwards to the corner, to the right of the jetty. We fell and tripped through a lot of bushes and huge rocks. I got a lot of cuts. There were probably 15-20 persons, maybe? I was stressed out. Matti held me and calmed me. We ran and ran. The worst was when we got to know: The shooter was dresses as a policeman. Fucking hell. In that case, who could we trust? If we call the police – then this guy will come and check or what? But we did try to call the police! They used a damn long time. So I gave my phone to Munir and asked him to update Facebook saying that everyone with a boat on the fiord had to help us. We ran back and forth when the shots drew nearer. Matti said we had to swim. But how would I manage that, thaaat far? Trond Agnar suddenly appeared. He said that severeal had tried to swim, but had returned because it was too cold, too far, too difficult simply. But do you know what? I´d rather drown than be shot. Sorry. I took my shirt off, and by Matti´s encouragement started swimming. It got heavy, so I had to remove my trousers too. Soo cold. I swam. Matti saved me. He said the right things and he did the right things. He made me swim – SO far. When we´d swam some distance Matti said: “Kamzy, don´t look back. Look towards the land on the other side and think that that´s you goal.” “Ok” I said. We heard shots all the time, and I´m still surprised that me or Matti didn´t get hit. (But, I was told later that he stood there. That was why Matti told me to look straight ahead. He stood exactly in the spot where we´d just been hiding. My God! Nad he´d tried to shoot at us. We were hunted. But I swam. Then boats came to rescue us. One of the boats threw lifevests and then had to drive on. Then the next boat came and got us. Even when we were in the boat I couldn´t relax. It wasn´t like a “yes, we´re saved”-spirit. He could still hit us with his machine-gun! I got down on the floor of the boat immediately. I didn´t feel safe. Not at all. Some of the locals helped us when we arrived. They gave us towels and drove us to the Esso- gasstation where the police and ambulancepersonell were waiting. I was in shock. I couldn´t shed a single tear. Hadn´t is dawned on me? Suganthan came over to me with my mobile and apologized for it not working any more. Dear Suganthan, I´m just happy you´re alive! Anniken Huitfeldt (ed. profiled AP politician) called me and talked to me. I have no idea who´s phone it was, a girl came over to me and told me that Anniken wanted to speak to me. And I asked her: “What the hell took the police so long?”. She agreed. And tried to calm me, asking what happened. A really nice girl who worked there got us clothes and warm drinks. I also got to call my dad. I´m so happy he handles these things calmly – even though he was worried sick. An then we went on. Everyone had to go to Sundvollen Hotel. There we had to register and assemble. We were amongst the first to arrive. That´s why we saw one after another arriving.. crying and screaming. I understand them so well. I just couldn´t understand, and still can´t understand why I couldn´t shed a tear. I just want to get out of this state of shock I´m in. I want to get out of here. I rode with Prableen and got home to dad who was waiting for me. Coz I´m still in shock. Who does that? Blowing up important buildings in Oslo and killing the future politicians of the Arbeider-party (ed. AP) who are attending summercamp at Utøya. What wrong have we done? Those who resort to violence have run out of arguments. How could he do this to my AUF-friends? It seems so surrealistic. I don´t understand. I can´t comprehend. I recommend every one to watch Jens Stoltenberg (ed. Norwegian PM, AP politician) and Knut Storberget´s (ed. Norwegian Minister of Justice, AP politician), press conference: http://www.vgtv.no/#!id=42403 “No one shall bomb us to silence. No one shall shoot us to silence” – this is what Jens Stoltenberg says and I total agree with him. But first of all my thoughts go to all family and friends. This is the time to take good care of each other. Contribute and lift each other. Comfort each other. And show the warmest parts we humans have. But I´m still in shock. And that´s the reason why I´m writing this note. I can´t bear to tell the story again and again. That was a short version of what happened. On my part. But the fear that was there all the time… I don´t think I can describe that. We were also informed constantly of who had been shot etc – I´ve left that out. It´s inconsiderate towards their family and friends. They deserve better. We don´t deserve to die. And that´s why I´m writing this. We´re just normal youth. We participate in politics. We want to make the world a better place - I missed the part where WE became the bad guys. Thinking of every single one of you that were at Utøya today. I really hope everyone survives. You deserve better. It was important for me to share this. It is important. With barricaded windows and doors, they hid under beds and luggage and were hoping the gunman would move on.
Among the surviviors is Jorid Holstad Nordmelan. Leader of AUF Oslo, she's among the eyewitnesses that are now telling the story of the horrific drama from the AUF-camp at Utøya.
- Norwegian People's Aid came in and said there was a policeman firing at other people. We were told to put mattresses in front of the windows and tables in front of the doors. I thought it was just standard procedure, I didn't think anything could happen in Norway, Nordmelan says.
Then the gunman started shooting at the building she was in.
- I just thought "Now we're going to die".
- I didn't think the shooting was serious. Moments before the shooting everybody in the camp had just been to an emergency meeting in Storsalen(Large Hall), to talk about what happened in Oslo. When the meeting was over Nordmelan went down to the schoolroom, a dormitory, while speaking to her boyfriend on the phone. Then she heard shots.
- I did't think it was serious, I thought someone was firing in the air, she says.
She didn't look at her watch but she thinks it was arond 5:45
When she cam down to the dormitory were Norwegian People's Aid also were, they looked scared. She went in and not long after people ran in scared and screaming, then they were told to barricade the doors and windows.
Hid in the bedroom.
The 20 year old tells us that a girl was shot in the arm and those that were in the main room threw themselves into the bedroom, which was further away from were the shots were coming from. Normelan hid deep under one of the 3 bunk beds in the little bedroom. Another person did the same, the rest hid among luggage on the floor and inside the beds. In total they were 30 to 40 people in the room, Normalen estimates.
- The tears were running while I was lying there. Then I thought about us under the beds being the safest, because we were so far in. Then I felt guilty(bad conscience) and cried even more.
She says that everybody remained calm, but several were crying and wet themselves.
- Then suddenly we heard the shooting was far away. It was fantastic that he wasn't close by anymore.
It wasn't till then she started thinking about family and close ones. She borrowed a cell phone and sent a message that she was hiding and that they shouldn't worry.
Never stopped shooting
De stayed down in silence in the room for an hour and a half while receiving text messages and reading about the drama through online news on the phone. The shooting continued.
- He just kept shooting. He never shot just one time when he shot. He fired at least 8-10 times. I heard later that he had been shooting people and then walked over to them and shot them in the head afterwards. He was there to kill.
It wasn't before the shooting was far away they thought about calling the police, to make sure they had been told. They told the police they thought there were several shooters, because there were so many shots spread around the island.
Ten minutes later they heard sirenes and the shooting stopped. They thought the rescue had arrived and they would be safe. Then they heard yelling outside the window.
"Hi, hi, This is the police", he yelled. Then started firing again.
She don't know if it was the police or the perpetrator that yelled, because he pretended to be police.
- We hoped that he had missed a lot but then we saw them.
After a while the police entered the building and told everybody to keep their hands above theire heads, as they thought there might be more shooters.
- At first we were really scared. Because we knew he looked like a policeman. Then when we saw they were more we started cheering.
They were quickly told to be quiet, as the police were still looking for more shooters and said there was still danger. They sat in the main room with the police for another hour before they could leave.
Then they got terrible news from friends and acquaintances that there might be a bomb on the island.
It wasn't untill then I got really scared. Shooting you can escape, but there is no escape from a bomb.
The police eventually got them out and moved to the ferry. It wasn't long before they started to run. Dead bodies were spread around them among injured people receving first aid.
- It wasn't untill then we realised how bad it had been. We were hoping he had missed a lot. Everybody started crying when we realised what we had been a part of.
I didn't quite get to the end, sorry, I have to go. I'm posting it anyway without any proofreading, it was almost finished.

Breivik grew up in the affluent west-end of Oslo; his former classmates from Ris Ungdomskole have recalled that he was a shy, but intelligent student who due to his large physical frame (6ft 3) often took care of people who were bullied.[47] A former co-worker has described him as an "exceptional colleague" without racist tendencies.[48] Breivik was a freemason, but had minimal contact with the lodge, and was suspended as a result of the attacks.[49] Breivik has completed his service in the Norwegian Army,[50] and has studied at the Norwegian School of Management.[51]
In late June or early July 2011, Breivik moved to the rural small town of Rena in Åmot, Hedmark county, about 140 km (86 miles) northeast of Oslo,[45] where he operates a farming sole proprietorship under the name "Breivik Geofarm".[52] It has been speculated that he could have used the company as a cover to legally obtain large amounts of artificial fertilizer and other chemicals for the manufacturing of fertilizer explosives, if he is the perpetrator in the bombing attack.[45] A farming supplier sold Breivik's company six tonnes of fertilizer in May.[53] [edit] Political views
Acting national police chief Sveinung Sponheim told public broadcaster NRK that the suspected gunman's Internet postings "suggest that he has some political traits directed toward the right, and anti-Muslim views, but whether that was a motivation for the actual act remains to be seen".[54][55] Following his apprehension, Breivik was characterized by officials as being a right-wing extremist.[56] Breivik studied at the Oslo Commerce School and is described by newspaper Verdens Gang as considering himself a conservative nationalist.[45] He has been described as a "Christian fundamentalist" by the media[57][10] and is reported to have written many posts on the website document.no,[55] described as an "Islam-critical and Israel-friendly".[58] He attended meetings of "Documents venner" (Friends of Document), affiliated with the website.[59] He is a former member of the right-wing Progress Party (FrP) and its youth wing FpU. According to the current FpU leader Ove Vanebo, Breivik was active early in the 2000s, but he left the party as his viewpoints became more extreme.[60]
He identifies himself in social media services as an admirer of Winston Churchill and Max Manus[61] and also of Dutch politician Geert Wilders, whose political party, the Party for Freedom, he describes as "the only true party for conservatives".[62] Breivik has also identified himself as "pro-gay and pro-Israel".[63]On Twitter he paraphrased utilitarian philosopher John Stuart Mill: "One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100 000 who have only interests."[45] Picture of the killer in the "Manifest", linked below: + Show Spoiler +![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/gQNMq.jpg) On the skull symbol on his arm: Original Message From Andymoo: I remember as I was reading through the saddening thread earlier you were wondering about the skull/cross on the guys uniform, as I'm unsure if it was answered what it was yet I saw some info about it as I was browsing the 1500page document.

Too much hate was being thrown out at Muslims/Islam in particular without any reason. Hate speech always leads to hateful actions. I don't support this vile organisation but have tried to be a neutral in how I describe it. Hope this is helpful to some of you. So sorry Norway :'( PEACE The EDL or English Defense League is a UK right-wing organisation that has been around for around 2-3 years. It is more of a concern/activist group that an outright political organisation and has no party political wing, nor as far as I can tell, any party affiliation. It treads a fine political line, avoiding making any racially/religiously aggravating statements opting instead for anti-extremism and ambiguous anti-islamification of Europe/UK sentiments. This has lead the organisation to receive some distant positive support or leniency when represented in UK newspapers, particularly The Sun. The group's PR also puts significant effort in distancing itself image-wise from what are traditionally seen as far-right fascist groups such as Combat 18 and obviously the Nazi party. Broadly their PR image is one of anti-extremism and preservation of British national identity particularly from influence by muslim immigrant communities, these are either underpinned by a paranoiac misunderstanding of islam or a nationalistic concern for the cultural impact of immigration in the UK, depending upon your political sympathies. In recent times they have had an increase in membership as a result of the decline of the BNP (British National Party - right wing political party, currently in disarray due to move toward moderation in policy as an (unsuccessful) trade off for more popular appeal and also a string of PR blunders). The EDL are most notorious in the UK media for marches and protests, typically clashing with UK anti-fascist groups particularly Unite Against Fascism. They have also clashed with Muslim extremist groups protesting the return of British dead soldiers from oversees. Their behavior as see in a number media broad casts, documentaries and youtube footage paints a varied image of the group though one where violence is usually a factor. Recently in my area of London they disrupted a council meeting involving youth engagement by threatening, assaulting and throwing stones at delegates. Members activities usually fall foul of the group's official line however, where incitement of racial or religious hatred is clearly the order of the day. Personally, the organistion bears a striking resemblance to certain mens unions/clubs of the 1930s in German that were galvanized and later went on to form the SA and later still the SS in Nazi Germany. IMHO they are a bunch of racist thugs that like a punch up and that won't go away any time soon. They run counter to any civil society not matter your politics and can only make problems of islamist extremism and radicalization worse. But this is spreading pretty "fast" by email and stuff. Who knows if its legit. + Show Spoiler +Western European patriot, Im hereby sending you my new compendium (3 books); 2083 A European Declaration of Independence, in Word 97 format, which includes the following main topics: 1. The ongoing Islamisation of Western Europe 2. The current state of the Western European Resistance Movements (anti-Marxist/anti-Jihad movements) 3. Solutions for Western Europe and how we, the cultural conservative resistance, should move forward in the coming decades 4. And covering all, highly relevant topics including solutions and strategies for all of the 8 different political fronts The compendium/book presents advanced ideological, practical, tactical, organisational and rhetorical solutions and strategies for all patriotic-minded individuals/movements. The book will be of great interest to you whether you are a moderate or a more dedicated cultural conservative/nationalist. After years of work the first edition of the compendium 2083 is completed. If you have received this e-mail and book, you are either a former Facebook friend or you are the friend of my Facebook friend. If you are concerned for the future of Western Europe you will definitely find the information both interesting and highly relevant. I have spent several years researching and compiling the information and I have spent most of my hard earned funds in this process (in excess of 300 000 Euros). I do not want any compensation for the work as it is a gift to you, as a fellow patriot. The content of the compendium truly belongs to everyone and is available to be distributed non-commercially in any way or form. In fact, I ask only one favour of you; I ask that you distribute this book to everyone you know. Please do not think that others will take care of it. Sorry to be blunt, but it does not work out that way. If we, the Western European Resistance, fail or become apathetic, then Western Europe will fall, and your liberties with it& It is essential and very important that everyone is at least presented with the truth before our systems come crashing down within 2 to 7 decades. So again, I humbly ask you to re-distribute the book to as many patriotic minded individuals as you can. I am 100% certain that the distribution of this compendium to a large portion of European patriots will contribute to ensure our victory in the end. Because within these three books lies the tools required to win the ongoing Western European cultural war, the war against the anti-European hate ideology known as multiculturalism. Multiculturalism (cultural Marxism/political correctness), as you might know, is the root cause of the ongoing Islamisation of Europe which has resulted in the ongoing Islamic colonisation of Europe through demographic warfare and conquest. This compendium presents the solutions and explains exactly what is required of each and every one of us in the coming decades. Everyone can and should contribute in one way or another, its just a matter of will. I hope you enjoy this compendium. It currently offers the most comprehensive database of solution oriented subjects. As mentioned, I only ask one thing from you; that you distribute this book to your friends and ask them to forward it to their friends, especially to individuals who have a patriotic mindset. Please help us and help yourself, your family and friends by contributing to spread the tools which will ensure our victory; for the truth must be known... It is not only our right but also our duty to contribute to preserve our identity, our culture and our national sovereignty by preventing the ongoing Islamisation. There is no Resistance Movement if individuals like us refuse to contribute... Time is of the essence. We have only a few decades to consolidate a sufficient level of resistance before our major cities are completely demographically overwhelmed by Muslims. Ensuring the successful distribution of this compendium to as many Europeans as humanly possible will significantly contribute to our success. It may be the only way to avoid our present and future dhimmitude (enslavement) under Islamic majority rule in our own countries. I have been unable to send this compendium to many people, for various reasons, so I truly hope you will be willing to contribute. This compendium is sent to you in the Word 2007 docx format. If you do not have MS Word 2007 or newer you may get a 2007 Word Viewer at no cost at the main Microsoft site or just get a trial version. Opening a docx file Microsoft introduced the .docx file format in its 2007 Office and Word applications and wants it to replace the commonly used doc format. The problem with the change from doc to docx is that many users are still working with prior versions of Word (XP in particular) or no Microsoft product at all and face the problem that they cant load the docx file because it is not supported in their application. Older versions of Microsoft Office or Microsoft Word: Older versions such as Office XP do not support the docx format because it was not known when they were developed and sold. A simple way to read docx and xlsx files is to select one of the following options: 1. For Word XP or older versions - install the Microsoft Compatibility Pack which adds support for the new file formats, or; 2. Download Word 97 viewer or newer, or; 3. You can use the Open XML Translator for Open Office to be able to read and edit docx files with Open Office, or; 4. The free online docx converter lets you convert docx documents. This is a pretty good solution if you dont want to install the previously mentioned add-ons. Remember, gaining access to this compendium will be well worth your time! For translation from English to another language I would recommend the Google translation engine as a short term solution. What's that site exactly and what type of things does he say there? He's just expressing his opinions that basically boil down to people believing in the current system are stupid, and an open culture has never done anything for anyone. I translated two of his comments that I feel represents fairly well the type of message he is sending on that site (first on multiculturalism, the second comparing muslims with nazis). If you want more translate.google.com does a remarkably good job at translating Norwegian->English. "Lasse Moer, Japan and South Korea are much clearer examples of developed countries that consistently and very directly fought against multiculturalism. This manifested itself in the 70s, 80s, 90s and this manifests itself to this day. The UN has for years been trying to get them them to receive hundreds of thousands of refugees but the number finally settled on 1/1000 of the original requirement. Europe has never chosen to do psychological and economic warfare against them for this reason (as they do to European nations / individuals who espouse the same arguments and principles) Multiculturalists will be very embarrassed if you mention Japan and South Korea as these nations proves quite obviously that mass immigration is only a result of specific Marxist doctrines, and is very rarely economically or culturally favorable. Japan / South Korea has a border and border guards. If one lacks the visa one is denied passage ... (Europe had this system before 1950-1960) The interesting question then becomes; why are the Japanese and South Korean people not demonized as the Nazis and fascists? The answer, we know ..." --- "The problem is that it often does not help if 80% of Muslims are "moderate", ie they ignore the Quran. "It takes very few people to overthrow a plane." What percentage is the Taliban of Pakistan's population? 1%, 3%, 5%? And how much chaos is there today? In every society where Islam exists there will be a certain percentage of the Muslims who actually follow the traditional interpretations of the Quran And then we have the ratio between conservative Muslims and so-called "moderate Muslims". There are moderate Nazis, too, that does not support gassing of Rome [TN: with Rome he referees to the Sinti and Roma, know as Travellers. they were the first the Nazis rounded up in camps.] and Jews. But they're still Nazis and will only sit and watch as the conservatives Nazis strike (if it ever happens). Should we accept moderate Nazis as long as they distance themselves from the gassing of Rome and Jews? Now it has unfortunately become involved with Marxists who have already infiltrated our culture, media and educational organizations. These individuals are tolerated and will even be offered work as professors and lecturers at "høyskoler" / universities and are thus able to spread their propaganda. For me it is very hypocritical to treat Muslims, Nazis and Marxists differently. They are all supporters of hate-based ideologies. Not all Muslims, Nazis and Marxists are conservative, most are moderate. But does it matter? A moderate Nazi might, after having been cheated, choose to be conservative. A moderate Muslim can, after being refused to enter a club, become conservative, etc. It is obvious that the moderate supporters of hate-based ideologies, at some later time may become conservative. Islamism has historically led to 300 million deaths Communism has historically led to 100 million deaths Nazism has historically led to 6-20 million deaths ALL hate-based ideologies should be treated equally."
