I think the ideal rotation is 5 new + 2 from the previous ladder pool + 2 of the best LotV maps.

Off the top of my head: Golden Wall, Abyssal Reef, and King Sejong Station were all pretty good maps at the time.

We had Abyssal recently, and KSS was actually a HOTS map, but I like your idea in general. Dream pool was a bit much, but rotating a couple of old maps through regularly I'm really up for.

The mapping community produces too many maps for us to be rotating in old ones...

... and that's coming from me, someone who would happily play on a map pool of Ohana (did you know it means family?), Cloud Kingdom, Overgrowth and Deathaura forever!

While I absolutely respect the amount of work done by people who make maps, the reason to rotate in a few old maps is because they've proven themselves to be good (or at least they were at one point). I don't know how accurate the match-up data on Liquipedia is for maps, but it says the current map pool is filled with stinkers, so even with a near decade of knowledge of what makes good and bad Legacy of the Void maps, there is no guarantee that new maps are good.

Last Fantasy definitely needs another season, we almost didn't see this map.

How often do we change maps and seasons btw?, map changes once a year?
SC2 Archon needs "Terrible, terrible damage" as one of it's quotes.

I am curious what the current game would look like on maps like these. I think we would have to keep the old mineral patch layout to make it functional. I do not think putting these maps on ladder would be a good idea, though.

Even cloud kingdom was obsolete after the introduction of medivac boost, these maps don't work, imagine desert oasis as an example.

People forget about the time the community picked the retro dreampool for ladder, and then everyone got sick of it VERY quickly. It's prolly good for a week at most on ladder, or maybe just a fun side tournament one weekend.

They should bring back the dreampool every aprils fools, at least for a few days, the only issue back then was that they let it stay for almost a full season.

Daybreak was a sick map. the only problem is the destructible rock in the middle. Once this path is open -> instant (extreme) stalemate play. there should have been a wall instead of a destructible rock.

The only thing I disliked at Cloud Kingdom is the color there (pink/violett).

Before we consider bringing back Cloud Kingdom we should bring back Eternal Empire, which is basically the (successful) LotV remake.

Alternatively, replace the entire map pool with Steppes of War and Dasan Station. Create the 1 base meta.

In general I'd probably keep about ~2 maps per rotation the same and then it depends on the new maps whether I'd bring in 7 new ones or maybe an older one to add something reliable.

Ah, Dasan Station. The single most impressive act of Neeb's career is that he managed to win a PvZ on that map which is a feat that would put anyone in the discussion of Protoss GOAT.

I’m okay with old maps being kept IF AND ONLY IF those maps are not the most commonly played maps from the last pool. I’m sick of this shit where we take a look at the most overplayed, figured-out, stale maps and say “hey, let’s beat the dead horse out of that some more!”

But we have no capacity for self control when selecting old maps so unless we want people getting bored of watching the game like I have of the last pool after having to watch Ley Lines in every BO3 for a year, we have no viable alternative except of 9 new maps.
