Keep your off topic discussions out of this thread and show some damn respect! |
Now I know this is a very bold statement and some might find it inappropriate. Never the less may I question you what the big difference is between hundreds and thousand people dying in africa right now and this massacre? I mean in terms of the 'result'? I know this stuff is much 'nearer' to us and that gives it more new coverage and everything. Even though I agree this is a horrible, sad and absolutely frightening thing to happen I always even at 9/11 I just had no other choice than to think ''Stupid humankind, it's a total outrage and everyone is totally flustered when something like this happens while in other countries its a daily thing''
And I know(!) there are ''difference'' but one of them is the fact that the people who died in the shooting had a nice & good life before there dead while those little children or humanbeings in the poor countries suffered all the more or less long way to their dead.
I dont want to offend anyone by this. Let alone the people who have relatives involved in the shooting I just want to put things into perspective and just make people realize in what kind of a crazy world we live. Were people far away die due to the most simple things in a long, suffering fight and we barely even notice anymore. But when a handfull of people ''of our kind'' die all hell breaks lose.
Now I know this is not your usual ''oh my god this is all so sad and horrible'' posts but I always feel like at least one person has to put things into perspective and just show how fucked up this world we live in truly is.
Once again: This is not meant to insult anyone who lost somebody in those shootings or the bombing or to say this is a ordinary thing or something which is not horrible or bad but I never could stand it in 9/11 when 2000-3000 people died and everyone was like ''this is the worst thing ever happening to humankind'' while those or probably the numbers of people dying due to lack of water and food..
Crazy thing never the less. My thoughts are with the relatives who lost their loved ones. But please keep in mind this is something (in terms of ''dead toll'') many poor countries have to endure on a dail basis mulitplied by quite a figure.

News (NRK) just confirmed that the current suspect purchased 6 tons of fertilizer on May 6th, through his bogus farming company. That makes a for a helluva boom....

It's what you guys pay your taxes for
What? Please listen to what your are saying.
WELL if you don't have taxes over there, i suppose this could be a reason to start taxing? Everyone calls the US stupid for having such a high defense budget, but honestly, when do things like this happen in the US? Columbine? Not comparable.
Virginia Tech? Still, not comparable.
I just think there's no excuse for the number EIGHTY fuckin SEVEN lives lost. Sorry to sound rude.
Add to that the fact that this man planted bombs, and acted all alone. Police fail if I've ever heard of one.

I guess there's a lot of confusion still. It was a lot longer than 30 minutes, that I can gurantee. I was watching this the whole day bar the drive home from work. The news of the gunman came probably late due to communications being down/confused, but it was atleast 1 hour(and like I said i think closer to 1.5) from confirmed reports of the gunman until he was taken down.

This is not the place to air them out. This is a thread about what actually happened is happening an way for people to show support for Norway.

For every update I see on this, I'm getting sadder... this is the kind of things that are simply unjustified, what could possibly be the reason for someone doing this, I don't get it. I pray for you, my dear neighbours T.T

Does anybody have any information on the security of the island? Obviously there's been reports about the police taking a long time to get there but was there no security detail on the island itself?

This is so scary. I live in Stockholm and it feels like this can happen any second here in sweden too. Im saying prairs to the people in Norway.
Peace & Respect, Love thy neighbour.

The man was dressed as a policeman, if there had been, the security center would've been the first place to say hi to.

I think there was one or two security guards, but they have very limited options as far as this situation goes and the gunman was posing as a police officer.

Stop this bullshit discussion, this leads to nowhere.

This post contributes nothing. Do you go around funerals and say: hey, your mother is only one dead person, think of africa. Do you feel better after saying this?
Your post is the same hippocrasy that you accuse other people of. Have you ever mentioned africa anywhere on these forums before people started talking about the massacre in norway? Why would you bring that up right now and not talk about people starving in africa before?
If you want to bring attention to that then post that in an appropriate thread with the right title.

Just because it was not confirmed before, it does not mean it didn't happen before. Also the articles state that the SWAT reached(!) the island 30minutes after, I'd guess he was taken down shortly after because of the size of the island, but ofc can't say for sure...

Your post, while it may have valid points, is completely out of line and is pointlessly offensive. You have no right to undermine the lives of these teenagers by comparing their murder to a completely different tragedy.

How are Virginia Tech and Columbine not directly comparable? They both involved crazed gunmen mass murdering people. If anything the US suffers way worse as gun murders occur daily, and they rarely occur in Norway.

Well, the difference is it's one fucked up guy killed all these helpless children begging for mercy, trapped on an island, whereas the poverty, government and infrastructure is the problem over there. I wouldn't even get started on that in this thread.
