This man set the bomb then went straight to the Island. When he got to the island, that's when you should have flown in the swat team or whatever you people have over there. This is an unprecedented event in Norway. I am sure next time they will have helicopters ready that can be there in 15 minutes.

Crazy thing never the less. My thoughts are with the relatives who lost their loved ones. There is a huge difference between people getting killed and people dying of natural causes. Your post, while it may have valid points, is completely out of line and is pointlessly offensive. You have no right to undermine the lives of these teenagers by comparing their murder to a completely different tragedy. 500,000 children died as a direct consequence of U.N./U.S imposed sanctions on Iraq between 1990-99. Not to mention the 1-2 million casualties caused by the Iraq war due to "WMD". Also to add that the engineers of the Iraqi genocide are known but live freely without punishment.

I just wanna say that you obviously don't have any clue what is happening in Africa right now. You're right, that was very shortsighted of me. I guess this happening in a first world country just hits home harder because of how separated we are from the third world countries. It feels a lot nearer and scarier when things happen like this happen in a developed country.

Al Jazeera English is reporting right now on a second suspect being arrested outside of a hotel. Apparently the Prime Minister is supposed to be giving a speech on the island soon.
It's 7:11 AM here, I've been up all night following this and it's just heartbreaking for it to happen to a country that's, imo, as close as you can get to being a society that is based on logical thinking and caring deeply for humanity. Thanks to those of you who translated the survivor stories a few pages back and thanks to those of you from Norway who have posted insight on this. I can't even imagine the pain of these families and friends affected by these events.

Helicopters travel at like 300MPH.
I don't know exactly how far away this place was from the nearest police station, but he was on the island for one and a half hours if i'm correct?

Adjusting for population size, atleast twice as many lives were lost yesterday when compared to the 9/11 attacks. Most of them 15-16 year olds. Norway is a very small country indeed and we could have done very well without the travesty that was yesterday..

What a tragedy. Best wishes to Norway and my sincere condolences.

im still speechless... hope those injured recover from their injuries

This guy is not to be taken serious at all(talking of the person who said in USA this would not have happened). Everyone seeing the place this massacre took place quickly realizes unless on that small , where some kind of defensive forces no one could have stopped this guy right away from killing kids. I mean come on, why the illusion of ''right away'' anyway? Let alone after a horrendous bombing.
Concerning the stuff i said about death of children due to lack of water/food compared to this: All I want to say is this:
The last three days I saw on almost every newssite a big article about the food crisis in africa. Millions of people in danger and many dying on a daily basis. Now we have ~100 death and while it is somethind different do die in a shooting I just want to say how the media has already fucked us all up to some extent. Just showing how greatly unaccurate our view is. I mean certainly for someone being involved in this shooting (due to having friends, relatives) there its something completely different. But for the average person there should be no reason what so ever to find this more horrible or sad than the other stuff going on 'RIGHT NOW'.
I know this is about this particular disaster but I cant step away from mentioning what is truly sick about it and even though that might sound highly insulting in my opinion it is not this massacre itself but the fact the media dictates our views so immensely.
I mean there could be 10.000 death in africa now and the pictures would be as shocking as those we see now but we dont even spend thinking a second about it anymore because of 100 dead in norway. I find this disturbing and we almost never think about this in such a way so I dont think its entirely wrong to pick this up when its appropriate and you have some kind of ''comparisons''
I will now drop this particular thing, though. Just want u to make think about the ''grand picture''..
Once again: Sad sad thing & truly sorry for everyone directly and indirectly involved in this

The second guy was arrested for having a knife, not sure if its linked to the massacre.

Translation:
Man arrested at Sundvollen.
One man arrested by two armed police officers.
The man was taken into a civilian car and taken away.
- This happened right in front of the press corps. It was a young man.The police will not say why they arrested him. He said himself that he had a knife. When asked by journalists why he was armed, he said: " because there are so many strange people here. I can't trust anyone. Before the man was pushed into the police car, he said he was a member of AUF, according to Jonas Sverrison Rasch, reporter for Dagladet.
The man was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. He had dark hair. He smiled as he was taken to the car, says TV2's reporter at Sundvollen.
Around 12:30 PM Jens Stoltenberg, Minister of Justice Knut Storberget and Minister of Health Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen arrived at Sundvollen. They were then driven to Sundvollen Hotel.
- People are crying, Stoltenberg takes their hands and pats their shoulders. They appear to be talking together. Stoltenberg is listening to two girls, who seem very shaken.
There will soon be a press conference outside Sundvollen Hotel.
- The mood is very tense here. 40-50 people are standing outside the hotel. There is heavily armed police here, and they seem to take security very seriously. There are guards at every corner, Rasch reports.
* Dagbladet will follow the press conference.
