He wanted to cause political change with this abomination, and what your suggesting will do exactly that. The best thing for Norway to do is what they are doing right now - nothing out of the ordinary but following their laws that are currently in place. Adding to this as a typical norwegian young man, killing someone is against our values; mass murderer or not. He will (hopefully unless he's totally gone) have more pain by having to answer for his crimes for what is likely to be the rest of his life in our justice systems hands compared to having a quick, painless death.

Norway is an extremely nice place to live and I feel lucky to have grown up here and all I would want is more of the same. It is not a time for Norway to turn her back on the ideas of democracy, tolerance and rationality. I think Jens Stoltenberg was correct in how he said Norway would go about it.

Of course they are not going to kill him in a justice system with no death penalty. Do you honestly expect them to change that system just because of him? btw. are norwegian courts public? Would be kinda interesting what he has to say to defend himself or at least explain what was going on in his head if that's even possible...

In extreme cases the hearings will go behind closed doors, so no public audience or live cameras, but press reporters will be present and free to report from them.

And with democracy you have no power to change things, so idealists like him are driven in to these senseless things. I've read a lot on many of the school shooters and people on killing spree and in many cases it's just frustration that strikes from their texts and actions. The killing is so random too.... This was the biggest killing spree by a invidual ever, more victims than that korean policeman got in the eighties. sad times ![]()

The police caught him. He basically admitted to it. What the fuck is the matter with you? Yes, he has the right to a fair trial, but when he basically already says "Hey guys I'm guilty" and just about 100 eyewitnesses can pick him out of a line up, there's really no need to bring forth this stupid argument. I'm not trolling - my point is that whenever there is a massacre, bombing or shooting spree caused by an alienated individual or group of alienated individuals, everyone is quick to "justify" or "make sense of" the tragedy with abusive, hate-driven, garble directed at the perpetrators. These "paroxysms of rage" as I called them are inappropriate and distracting from the discussion of the event itself. I don't want to discuss this perspective anymore. It was only, that at the time of my original post, I feared that this was to become a thread solely for the discussion of how bad the accused murder is, and how he should be executed and rot in hell, etc, etc. I withdraw my original comments since it seems the discussion has cooled down a bit and features less of these extreme hateful statements. Similarly, I hope this thread doesn't turn into "execution vs. life imprisonment".

At least 80 people killed at Utoya.. That's just horrible. 80 people killed by one person. I can barely get my mind around it. Putting him to death would pretty much make us as bad as he is. Retaliation is never the answer, and must never be.

We don't know where the 80 to 84 count at Utøya was, but depending if it was 4 more found on land or 4 in the water it will be higher. Eyewitnesses from boats confirmed there was corpses in the water. So expect the number to go up.

The only place hate ideologies were taking over was his head. Democracy gives us enough power, what people like that need is a mental institute.
