The sinister arithmetic indicates that, adjusted for population (5M vs 300M), a larger proportion of the respective country's people were killed on Utoya. Rot in hell indeed.

My deepest sympathies to the Norwegian people, I still can't understand that a single man can cause such a disaster. I feel gutted thinking about what happened in Utøya, they were just kids! Us swedes must show solidarity with our neighbours and provide any help that we can. I think Jens Stoltenberg's official statements have been brilliant, stating that this man cannot be victorious in changing the Norwegian society with fear and violence.

Killing him won't bring any of the dead back. Hate breeds hate. He will get what's his, that's for sure.

This is terrible, I don't really know what to say other than my thoughts go out to the families of the victims and I hope swift justice prevails upon those responsible.

Besides, noone is comparing, this isnt a pissing contest. People are trying to place this disaster in national context, and we got our oklahoma and our columbine on the same day, only that this attack was directed at two of the core symbols of our democratic system, namely the main governmental buildings, and the most important political youth summit. That makes the 9/11 reference very valid.
Now that i have seen our collective reaction since it all began, i just feel sadness and shock, combined with a huge sense of pride in the way people are behaving.

Going on the responses from most so far gives the Norwegian people something to be very proud of in a dark time. It's really too bad the American government didn't react like this after 9/11, the Norweigian government's response is just so mature and composed, if this is typical for this party I can see how they've been in power since WW2. Are you really trying to compare two tragedies with their magnitudes? You are pathetic sir. Guess what, hundreds of thousands of people die due to PREVENTABLE causes in poorer countries and yet you cant seem to see out of your asshole, seriously people like you, piss me off, I am already saddened to hear the loss of promising and innocent lives and then this, sorry gotta rant.

Could sign every single thing you're writing. I might want to argue with some of the posts here, but why? It won't help anyone and it won't stop me feeling insanely sad. Just zapping the tv, watching all news I can get. Crying.

Hey people, let's not start a fight here, and rather, express our thoughts in a more civilized manner. What can we do now is to spread the information of the bombing to more people, tell them about the catastrophe and show some empathy.

The more important comparison to make...the United States waged two wars and passed the Patriot Act in response to 9/11. Let's hope that Norway continues things as usual. Don't let this man influence national policy and change a government and system that is working fine. Maybe the government should try and do something to ensure the police can respond quicker in case of future tragedies but they should not pass laws that take away from its citizens freedom.

This entire thing is very disturbing. My condolences to the families of the diseased.

He will never be released from prison because everyone will know what he did and his threat level will be over 9000. Killing him will not solve anything.

Definitely agree a more prepared and trained fast response personell are required but yeh, I hope they don't change anything significant in how the country operates because of this.

The ideas of collectivism once again claim lives. When you place the individual second, rather than first, these atrocious acts become possible. Nationalism, fascism, socialism - they all have that in common; the individual is placed second.

What's the point of not executing him? It sort of sounds like he's winning.
A slap on the wrist, then the rest of your life with 2-3 meals a day living in a room that's probably bigger than mine?
No, brother, he deserves just so much worse. I don't think a life sentence in hell would do it. He needs to not exist any longer.
But hey, who am I to say. I hope you all recover from this, and do whatever you think is fair with the scumbag. (you should seriously consider shipping him to a U.S. prison, big bubba and him would get along real well.)

He is allready victorious. Unfortunatly his identity was revealed, which ensures him a place in history. The police and "special forces" should have kept his name a secret and deleted all traces of his excistance. Then they should have thrown him in the deepest and darkest hole and kept him there until he would perish.
|
my deep condolences to Norway people ...
|
Knowing why he did it (and how fucked up his mind is) isn't really making him victorious. Sure he got his message out, but only if there are changes made in Norway (unlikely from what I gather) that he would appear to have been 'victorious'.

This is disturbing.
I feel so sorry for all the families who have had they're kids life taken by this fucking psycho.
