I don't think someone can be a hipster when they like the most mainstream and universally hyped movie triology since LotR.

To be honest Batman Begins doesn't even compare to the LotR trilogy / TDK / TDKR on hype or 'mainstreamness'.

It's still a series and as a whole they're pretty much the most hyped and, imo, overrated movies to come out in the last few years.

what I mean is just anyone who go against anything mainstream because they think they are too cool for it.

Yeah and what i meant is that going against the mainstream by liking something even more mainstream is weird. It's more like he is going full "dark and edgy" because more colorful and fun movies can't be as good as the dark and oh so cool Nolanverse Batmans!

I do so enjoy this trilogy so far at least, loving Nolan's super gritty/"realistic" take on perhaps the most "realistic" superhero. Though with the flying batmobile maybe we're pushing the envelope quite a bit
WHOA released July 20th....that's actually really close...wow might be able to watch it in a Chinese theater or something keke. Though I may not be in any condition to so out so I guess I'll have to wait until I can return to the states.
Really excited for this though ^^

The embargo is over and reviews are out!

Negative reviews seem to agree on two points:
1. Bane just can't top the Joker 2. The movie drags at some parts
But I'm glad to see that the majority of the reviews are positive. Usually, movies that wait so long before releasing reviews aren't that good... can't wait for the week-end!

just by the trailers i can tell this movie gonna be epic, the best action movie of all time that cinema industry has never seen.

It has been confirmed that most theaters will be running The Man of Steel teaser during The Dark Knight Rises, but not every country.
A representative from Event Cinemas has informed the Superman Homepage that the teaser trailer for "Man of Steel" will NOT screen in front of "The Dark Knight Rises" screenings until 2.00pm (Australian Time Zone) Friday, July 20 due to Warner Bros. wanting it to be a worldwide release in conjunction with the USA release.
The people that will be most affected by this news are moviegoers in countries like Australia, New Zealand and a few others that have openings on Thursday July 19th. Also anyone that is attending an early screening of The Dark Knight Rises on July 20th in that part of the world are also out of luck. Two o'clock Australian time is the same as midnight eastern standard time in America, so early screenings in the states will not be affected.
Just like The Avengers, die hard fans are slamming any critic that is giving the movie a bad review.
A couple of spoiler-free yet very opinionated reviews of The Dark Knight Rises have hit and not every one of them is positive of course. Certain fans however, furiously responded to these few negative reviews that offered a side of things they obviously didn't want to hear..and they haven't even seen the movie for themselves yet!
Christy Lemire, of the Associated Press, gave the movie two stars, mildly noting that it felt like a “letdown” from an “exceptional, visionary” filmmaker like Christopher Nolan. That brought 495 comments at last count, of which “I hope you die” was one of the most printable.
Marshall Fine, who reviews for the Star and his own website, Hollywood & Fine, also didn’t like the film. No surprise there (he wasn’t a fan of “The Dark Knight” either) but his review – which compared the movie to a bad “Transformers” sequel -- brought 852 comments, and so many slams to his own site it briefly shut it down.

One of the posts from the Crhisty Lemire review:
The dark knight is a movie respected by even the rival marvel universe. I remember one spokesperson from marvel saying that we,comic book lovers are in great debt to nolan who reinventened a way a super-hero can be defined, the way he transforms the plain emotions of fear, chaos and pain onto such a grand canvass ,an obsesseion of a man tormented by his own internal demons and you compare that to fucking twilight. It only takes an idiot who can't recognize true genius of nolan who in next 30 years will be revered as one of the all-time greatest filmmakers
Fanboys of this caliber are scary.

Ehh how about everyone go watches it, and makes up their own mind. I thought Batman Begins was alright, and TDK was great, but maybe that is just me.
Rather than having a big group sit in the cinema for 9 hours, we are having a get together at a friend's pizza, alcohol, and the first two movies in 1080p, and then the midnight premiere, should be good fun, circa 24 hours to go before that all gets started!!!

I think I might throw up, that is how excited I am for this movie.
Midnight release, bitches.

Fanboys of this caliber are scary. You should visit an Xbox360 or PS3 forum (think Halo, Killzone, Gears of War, Uncharted etc). Those are a lot worse. We're spoiled here at tl.net.
And yes, Nolan's batman films are overrated. All blockbusters are. I enjoyed Batman Begins, didn't like The Dark Knight (found it boring in some parts). That's probably because I didn't grow up liking superheroes in the first place. When I was young I watched a lot of 50s musicals ("singing in the rain", "my fair lady" and the likes) and adventure movies like Indiana Jones. I like the occasional action movie, but they never really appealed to me. I bought "Inception" because I heard a lot of good stuff about it, but after I had watched it I thought "is this really it?"
I also don't understand what people find gritty about Nolan's batman series. If you want gritty, go watch "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" or "The Pacific". That's gritty because those events actually really occured.

The first half of the comment is right since Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios said that Nolan's Batman films are excellent and fans of both sides (Marvel and DC) should appreciate great comic book movies. The only problem with that comment is that I don't recall Feige saying all of that. The comment turned to trash with the closing sentence. I find it funny how some people get so defensive when someone does not like something they like.
|
Well you have to admit that for a superhero movie, Nolan's Batman universe is pretty gritty. His films are some of the key works, I'd say, that are best representative of the modern comic age (as opposed to gold, silver, bronze).
Feige may not have said that exact thing, but he does think Nolan's Batman was "the greatest thing that happened because it bolstered everything", so I suppose more of a general "victory for the superhero genre" sort of idea. Man I want to watch this so much but probably won't be able to until I get back to the US which could be any time from 1 to 3 weeks T_T
But yeah, I doubt anything can outdo that Joker performance. That was just legendary :/

I really enjoyed the dark universe of batman begins and tdk, I hope the third one won't disappoint me :D

a critic that didn't like tdk either can't be taken seriously
