That's the ugliest exam question I've ever seen.

I drew a giant bat symbol (Batman) for one of my AP Calculus long answers. I still got a 5. Maybe I got bonus marks for it. + Show Spoiler [This one] +

I was taking my US history AP after I had already gotten into my top-choice universities. My US History professor said that if I took the AP exam, I wouldn't have to take the school exam... and the AP exam obviously doesn't count towards my school grades. it was pretty hard to draw...

I got a 2 (out of 5) on the exam. I felt really bad afterwards cuz my US Hist prof was actually my college counsellor, and he had helped me get into almost all the ivies... sorry dude.

Wait.. you get a 2 on an exam, and you get into almost all ivies? I'm guessing that APUSH didn't reflect you as a student at all?

Hey guys I heard it was cool to make someone's job harder because you're a pathetic nerd desperately looking for some way to be a "badass rebel" for a day and then be able to tell your equally nerdy friends how much of badass you were for the next 6 years because you wrote some curse words on a piece of paper without getting in trouble.

I hope that everyone who does crap like this gets their graders angry at them and get spite-failed, despite having correct answers.

My AP US history teacher told our class, often and in detail, that for an entire week he would get shipped off to dallas or wherever the grading is, sit in a giant gym or warehouse with a couple hundred teachers, and just burn through essays for 8 hours. Essays that are all saying the exact same thing. An article by a teacher grader ( http://www.examiner.com/a-1443213~This_is_Sparta____Facebook_prank_or_political_statement_.html ) said:

"But as readers, we did adopt the Spartan spirit. In the Chief Reader’s last day speech, he encouraged 1100 teachers to grade the remaining hundred thousand essays by pumping his fist and shouting,
“This is Sparta!”

We cheered and cheered, and went to our tables that final day to grade the remaining tests, hurling them into a concrete pit of oblivion--or perhaps into a metal computer scanner.

A Facebook prank with the modest goal of bringing a chuckle to the reading turned into a rallying cry to complete the daunting task on hand. We hundreds of Spartan readers tackled a million swarming essays and, unlike Spartans at Thermopylae, remained standing."

There's really nothing wrong with this at all. It's like having a long day of movies, hanging out with friends, and chilling after finals week in school. It takes some of the stress out of the students and gives the readers something entertaining during their long grind through essays.

As for me, I was part of the "Why so serious?" year, and I proceeded to write it on every one of my AP tests. On a calculus free response question I was clueless so I just drew the joker poster face. I got a 5 on it anyway and someone got to see some beautiful artwork

What exactly is an AP exam? Is it the equivalent of the U.K.s alevels or gcses?

This is actually just a joke.

A way to rebel against the system? More like a simple way to amuse ourselves and the readers.

I don't think it was really necessary to say what I just said in other words :o but thanks anyway! you get a 5! =]

It's a test which tests your knowledge of a particular subject at the college level, if you score high enough you may be eligible for college credit in that subject.

To those of you defending this and saying it can be helpful to the graders... what evidence of this do you have?

I'm going to offer some evidence towards this "joke" being somewhat effective towards lightening up the graders' moods:

http://www.examiner.com/a-1443213~This_is_Sparta____Facebook_prank_or_political_statement_.html

(EDIT: Oops this was already posted above me, sorry!)

I was only taking two AP tests during the "This is Sparta" year and I didn't partake in it, but I did the following year (the "Why so serious" year) when I was taking five AP tests. The tests are a pain in the ass to study for as you can probably surmise and taking all of these tests within the course of a week is stressful, to say the least. This "joke" was simply a way to remove some of that stress from the experience and help it go along a little smoother.

The idea was not to make the readers' jobs more difficult by cluttering up the pages with huge cross-outs as a way of rebelling. The idea (as I understood it) was to remove some of the seriousness from the whole AP ordeal in a way that wouldn't distract the grader. I will say that some of the posts I've read in this thread concerning huge bullshit answers/pictures or large blocks of cross-outs do not follow this idea. In fact, I would bet that most of the people who did this are those that know they aren't going to get a 5 and are just doodling to pass the time.

EDIT2: Wow i basically just copied dudeman's post, didn't see it before. T_T

Fixed. They should just rename it to how-to-overrate-yourself-going-into-college tests.

lmaoooooooooooooo. This has been one of the funniest threads in a long time. Ok I'm a junior taking two ap classes right now.

1.Ap Spanish(This should be easy seeing as how I'm hispanic but those accents are annoying. )
2.Ap Bio(I should pass this with at least a 3. I took bio honors last year anyway. -__-)

Does anybody have experience with any of these tests? How should I prepare for them?(One of those prep books I suppose?)

Back on topic:So this year, I might use: "I'm really happy for you and Imma let you finish but grading my essay will be the best of all time

For comp sci, I had fun with comments.

For eng lit, I did something similar and lightly scratched out paragraphs of rage at the choice of works that we had to read (shitting on Bloom's canon) while doing whatever was asked.

I don't understand why seniors just draw pictures and sleep during their AP exams, and then end up getting a 1 or 2. You have to pay moniez to take these exams, and typically if you get a 4 or a 5 you can pass out of some intro level college classes (or even a 3 if the college is less strict), which is really nice and time-saving . In certain colleges it can also fulfill certain requirements, like if the college has a core curriculum.

If you have no idea what the question is asking and have thrown in the towel, w.e draw whatever pictures you like.. But if you understand the material but just can't be bothered to finish the question cuz you're a 2nd semester senior and have seniorities, idk if it's the best idea...

I passed five of them

And now only have three years of college.

And I'm getting a five year degree.

Is that funny?

At my school if the teacher recommends you, the school district will play for your exam. I messed around on all of my AP exams, but still passed them (albeit barely passed in the case of Eng Lang >.<).

AP scores don't affect your admissions at basically any top school, it's only for credit AFTER you get in. Getting 10 5s doesn't really help your chances.

taking the AP course itself does make you look better compared to someone who isnt taking any ap classes. tells colleges that you had a more rigorous schedule

Not true. Many applications ask for an unofficial list of AP scores.
