I'm pretty chill with my old AP US history teacher; since graduating from high school I've made a point to visit him whenever I'm in town. Last summer he showed me some choice answers that him and his fellow graders of the AP tests found in the essay sections of the AP US exams.
  • It was too late to repair the irreparable.
  • African Americans fell off the racial inequality ladder
  • Japanese Americans were usually of Japanese descent.
  • The Japanese were sent to reservations. The Indians did not like this.
  • According to one poll, Jews were the 2d most annoying race in the US, right behind the Italians.
  • The Mexican Americans didn’t have it as bad as they were far away and they were dealing with Cuba’s missiles.
  • The shape of Japanese eyes inhibited them from seeing very clearly during the war.
  • I have swine flu.
  • Domestic factors during the 2d World War were often overshadowed by the emergence of rock and roll and cool cars.
  • During WWII, many got the chance to experience the experience.
  • Executive Order 90210.
  • As documents A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and J demonstrate, slavery was prominent in America.

I totally wrote something exactly like that for my essay question on APUSH, it was something along the lines of pick 2 of the following 5 descents and write about their trials during WW2. I picked Jews and Japanese, and wrote that many Japanese felt prejudiced against because they could not see as well as other immigrants, and thus had more limited job opportunies as well as struggling in warfare.

.

lol i wrote about african americans and the great migration (that was WW1 WHooooops) and japanese

Hey guys I heard it was cool to make someone's job harder because you're a pathetic nerd desperately looking for some way to be a "badass rebel" for a day and then be able to tell your equally nerdy friends how much of badass you were for the next 6 years because you wrote some curse words on a piece of paper without getting in trouble.

I hope that everyone who does crap like this gets their graders angry at them and get spite-failed, despite having correct answers.

wow christ it's just a joke and it's generally pretty funny. Did friends of yours do this and ace it and you fail trying hard or something?

At least it's a nice change from the ass tight world of academics these days

Hey guys I heard it was cool to bitch and moan on a harmless thread about fun with AP tests because you're a pathetic nerd desperately looking for some way to be a "white knight" for a day and then be able to tell your equally nerdy friends how much of a crusader you are for test taking standards for the next 6 years because you got your panties in a bunch in an internet forum.

its actually making their jobs a little bit more entertaining. They have to read a shit ton of people's papers and answers all about the EXACT SAME THING ALL DAY LONG. these little blurbs just give them something to giggle about.

People saying this is a feeble way to be a rebel or a badass are revealing something about themselves...

This is actually just a joke.

You can't get points off for something that is crossed out. Even if you cross out something that would have helped your score, they can't take into consideration whether they read it or not (which they probably will).

Ridiculous thread. I can't fathom why you would do this - It's akin to talking shit to a deaf person so you feel good and they can't get you in trouble.

Edit: Okay if it's a joke its a terrible, nonsensical one.

I don't know what AP is but I always either write a joke answer for a question I don't know the actual answer to or draw some ridiculous shit for my uni exams. I just get a kick out of the possibility that, a few days from now, I'll be making some marker's life a bit more fun and less tedious.

A way to rebel against the system? More like a simple way to amuse ourselves and the readers.

No... most of the time the graders think it's hilarious. It doesn't make their jobs harder in any way. Assuming you're not wasting actual "essay writing time" with your drawings/ cross-outs it can't hurt you. It can potentially help you, as i said earlier in the thread, if your jokes are generally in good taste.

Like "This is Sparta" crossed out or random haikus crossed out might actually get you a few laughs, and therefore a more friendly grader. On the other hand writing things like "Burn the fags, LOL" and "Women belong in the kitchen" and crossing those things out will probably make you very sad when you see your score.

Oh yeah, also, one time in high school, I memorized a big chunk of the Diablo 2 Manual and recited it word for word for an English Exam (the topic was Gothic). I got perfect marks, lmao

To those of you defending this and saying it can be helpful to the graders... what evidence of this do you have? I've seen maybe one example given in this whole thread of an actual grader being spoken to. I don't grade standardized tests so I can't really say how they feel about this... but similar stuff drives me crazy when I grade regular things including state finals... it is generally not appreciated...

That's not to say you can't be entertaining in a creative way... I've had some very funny students who purposefully do something in a way that made me chuckle... but it didn't get in the way of me being able to effectively and efficiently grade their work quickly, and it didn't show a contempt for the system... which is fairly immature.

Well I know that most teachers will certainly not rule in your favor but being creative does not hurt. From my experience, most professors I know tend to be very unusual and the type of people who would enjoy that kind of stuff, especially when grading hundreds of formulaic essays all day.

It also does not hurt to be creative since you have a lot of free time after the tests and you may get very lucky and run into a professor who may grade in your favor.
