Hey I heard if you use close range guns long range ammo scorch on a ship with great mobility, 8 guns and a 25% damage bonus you can combine it with the crazy cheap optimal implants, frentix and those locus rigs which give hard to get optimal at flat percentages to get close range tracking at 70k. Has anyone else heard this?

I posted this somewhere on the eve forums, but I doubt it'll get a response, since most people there are idiots.....

I have an idea for a radical change to the rules for the alliance tournament that I feel would make it substantially more fun to watch, and would add a lot of strategic depth to the matches. It's basically just capture the flag.

2 cans on field, one for each team. The objective is to get to your opponent's can, grab something from inside of it, and move that item into your own can. Cans are 150km apart, and you automatically start the match at your can. There is no limitations to grid size, and you can warp off grid and then warp back, the only drawback being that you are forced to warp back right on top of your can. A ship carrying the loot from the can cannot warp, however. First team to get the enemy's "flag" back to their can wins automatically. If no winner is determined through this method, then it goes to points scored just like it currently is. Team structure is setup using the same point system that exists (or slightly modified, but overall it seems pretty reasonable).

You could have teams designed to simply get to the can and back as fast as possible, or teams that are designed to prevent the enemy from ever reaching your can through webbing and scramming them, you can have teams designed to kill the opposing team before they could possibly grab the loot and return with it, and who knows what else could be done with this. With a fairly large distance (150km) between the cans, it makes it so that it will take some time to move between the two, so coordination of an entire fleet would be paramount, since getting caught out of position would end it pretty quickly. And the ability to warp out and back on field would force teams to fit disruptors and scrams to keep targets on field to finish them off.

There's a lot of variance in AT already, and I think this would increase it. In my view that's the biggest downside to the idea.

I think the big downside of the idea to me is that it's even less like EVE than AT already is. AT needs to be opened up, sure, so that the interesting aspects of the game can seep in. But delivering items to cans is every bit as arbitrary as "warp in and hope you land at a good spot and aren't hard countered".

We could have warping, planets, customs offices, the sun, even stations. The best way to do this is to remove arbitrary restrictions rather than to add them. Practically speaking, it's just not possible because CCP doesn't seem willing to develop a dev-only viewing system that isn't extremely primitive. If they could effectively monitor a system-wide engagement, AT could not only be 100x cooler, it could also be a pretty good representation of small-gang skirmishes and a much better platform for promoting teamwork and player skill rather than metagaming and dice rolling.

I would love to see the matches be about getting the first kill and then proceed to warp between safe spots for 15 minutes

Even if capture the flag type of gameplay isn't the best way to do it, I do want to see some kind of actual objective that forces fights on a specific grid, instead of the arbitrary "bubble" that you have to stay inside. After that, you could literally let anything go; allow people to use dictors with bubbles, a prober to try to probe down and warp right ontop of people, warp out and back in rather than just sit there and die while not pointed, etc.

why all those artificial objectives and not just make it about entosis and some structures?
that would tie the AT straight to normal tranquility gameplay, would be great advertisment for the new sov system and would push interesting theory crafting that could seep into the nullsec game, as well planned and executed small scale fleets can make an impact.

What, like have one team being the "attacker" with the entosis link, and the other being the "defender" and has to try to stop the link from staying on grid long enough? I really do like that idea, but I'm not sure how well balanced it would be between the teams, and how would you determine which team gets to be which?

I would love to see a world where people actually have interesting and insightful things to say rather than willfully misinterpreting what others say in order to create absurd straw men.

i thought more about a domination game, like 5 nodes in the system who holds 3 of them for 5 minutes or all 5 at one point in time wins. (the biggest problem for the tournament i guess is that the entosis would need shorter cycles and shorter capture times)

Edit: ok i just realized we call it the alliance tournament, when it is actually a small gang tournament, this domination style tournament would need closer to 25-50 people per team.
i enjoy watching the current alliance tournament format quite a bit and the biggest improvement i want to see about it is better observation/observation tools

I saw someone pinging that there was a Goon Rev tackled in JU- yesterday in my Jita alt's corp chat, but I didn't see it pinged anywhere else I would have expected it to be, so I thought it was a joke.
