I'm not surprised if all you're seeing in there is me getting accused of being a ~spaceshipselitist~ and Liquid members and ex-liquid members bickering and picking fights. Don't let that put you off. Eve is an incredibly deep, complex and rewarding game. Unfortunately, the complexity also creates a significant barrier to entry and makes getting into the game frustrating at times. Don't be discouraged, though. I'd be happy to talk to you about good ways to get started and get your feet wet. I'm EST and usually on for a good chunk of the night. Shoot me (GordonAlexander) a convo in game. I used to be a Liquid director, and although i've moved on I still keep up with team liquid folks wherever they may be in Eve. Kwark_uk and JP Bear are also good guys to talk to and are directors in The Hatchery. Fly safe. Don't talk to Kwark, he bites hard. Makes me cry on the inside T_T.

It really seperates those that really want to give eve a try from the randoms and makes the latter leave. Also, it makes most people start searching for info themselves.

Yeah, SCBW has become more trollish of late, for sure. What really sucks with scbw is the fact that revo has channel op(not sure?) and noone else does. Not to mentiont he gian theap of carebears : P And to all the people whining about how helpful scbw once used to be, this may may come as a shock but explaining the same shit to different people everysinglefuckingtime got boring fo rme a long time ago. Why not read this thread for example there's everything from basics of pvp to goddamn salvaging guides in here and for fuck sake this isn't wow and you should put some time into reading evelopedia so you get some info before you even start the game. The hatchery and previously Liquid inc. were never meant as corps where you make an account logon and then get spoonfed everysingle detail from manual ship pilot to what the heat damage attribute on guns means(and no it's no the damage the guns deal). They were corps that get you started finacially and point you in the right drection. For christ's sake the game is a sandbox just do whatever you like but please for the love of god read about it before you do. There's a fuckton of info already out there about pretty much everything. Interested in skill training? There's a whole forum on eve's site dedicated to it, there's a thing called eve mon that has a skill browser. Interested in pvp? Go under My eve forum and lookup some pvp videos. If there's a thing in eve that interests you, there's probably a guide for it somewhere too. Now don't take this the wrong way, I'm a firm supporter of the mentor/apprentice bond that once existed between liquid memebers much more informally than it does now between hatchery members but I can't help but think that the whole thing has become much too much like taking a kindergartner to school on his first day. There's some great eve knowledge among tl eve players and you should by all means use it, but please try to keep everyone sanity in check by doing research first and then asking deeper questions like what's the difference between a tracking disruptor rifter and a standard web rifter and not questions like "hai guyz i fitskied some cap batteries on my rifter is that okz?" This isn't some 2 week old game where noone knows what the fuck's going on. It's a 7 year old MMORPG the developers of which made a concoius decision to make the game more newb friendly(i'm scared what it would be like if we played eve in the era when you had to learn everything by trial and error). /end{bitterrant}

It's a 7 year old MMORPG the developers of which made a concoius decision to make the game more newb friendly(i'm scared what it would be like if we played eve in the era when you had to learn everything by trial and error). I came to these forums in an interest of Starcraft, but I've been playing Eve for a good little while now. Ever since I've started the game has been nothing but fun, interesting, and original. For me I took advice for face value, but never seriously. A year and a half later I'm a better player, a bit of a Jack of All Trades, and made some real good friends/enemies through it all. Trial by Fire is nothing to be scared of; sure it costs alot of Isk in the long run but I've learned more from loosing than from any guide or evelopedia page couldf ever teach.

I'm really excited 'cuz I love team-based strategy play (I could play UT CTF and DotA forever) -- and I tend to favor being the flexible support offense. Looking forward to meeting y'all, and hopefully I won't get crazy addicted too fast :D My handle will likely be something like HappyFT Join SCBW the channel and say Hello I'm online right now.

And in this case, ''rip the shit out of them'' is an understatement. In Kwark's defence, like its been said before, if you dont read about this game at least a little bit and try to find some stuff by yourself, you wont enjoy the game. Eve is a very deep game that requires a lot of knowledge to fully enjoy, and even though everyone in the Hatchery is open to answering questions, and some people even organize some explanatory sessions to help newer members, it would take way too much time for anyone to fully explain the game to a new player.

Kwark you're seriously the cutest person ever. Sit in more typhoon optimals ! Yea eve is one of those games where having friends is great but learning the complex things on your own is far more valuable.it's like that teach a man to fish thing. I should mentor domine for more game time.
