AFAIK it is region based. My friend in Australlia will probably have to buy a NA copy to play on the NA realms, but hopefully it is like the beta where you can select any region to join a server.

Yeah the latter would have my preference as well, but can't seem to find anything about it. Apparently your Australian friend will have to buy a NA copy to play at all btw, no release there yet it seems? They do mention they won't be ip-blocking though, so I guess there's that at least, but I kind of liked the beta system (for lack of a global server anyways).

bleh I wish I could play the game right now *sigh*.. Oh well its only 15-17 days to go. I still have no clue what to play.... Imperial Agent or Sith Warrior... and then the advanced classes.... toooooo many choices.

As for Fruscainte(can't look at the video now) I encountered various bugs and glitches & crashes during my weekend test. The launch isn't really that far away(even read I don't need to re-install the client) and the amount of stuff I reported I'm not really sure 2 weeks will be enough for them to fix everything. This leads to what I'm still wondering is how MMOs seem to get away with this. Launches are often not very pleasant experiences and bug infested(even some single players have had launch day patches and fixes which seems to becoming rule rather than the expectation) and because "it will be patched" hardly justifies this. I don't see how game, which is probably already the most expensive game to the date, developed by BioWare can really be in such situation with few weeks prior to launch.
I'm most likely going to finish storylines for certain classes, the Imperial Agent was atleast not a straight copy from some WoW classes(heyoo Jedi Shadow) and healer commando was pretty cool really, and leave the game at that. Seems to be like this for many others which is rather sad, hopefully BioWare has something up their sleeve 'cause otherwise that game could see losses in subs. I probably am not the only one who'd rather just take KOTOR 3. Now, if you have a video that shows selling things to vendors for 10,000 credits at level 2 from drops, or an entire area swiss cheesed with invisible holes in the ground, then by all means complain that it's unplayable and piss all over Bioware. However, if you're only finding things that make it too annoying for YOU to play, let us know about it and piss off.. It's hilarious because this paragraph basically shows you didn't watch the video and are just ranting out of misinformation.
Was the "white grid" problem fixed after a relog? If yes I dont really see a problem (depending how frequent it occurs, or if it's 100% reproducable).

This game seems so story driven that I can't see myself subscribing for this. What happens when you complete the story? The quests are so closely knitted into the story that I foresee myself running out of stuff to do after maybe 3 months max, and compared to other MMOs, it doesn't seem like I have much stuff to do at higher levels exept PvPing and grinding out gear. The fighting is pretty fun, although it uses a pretty standard MMO style, same thing with the space missions which were pretty good as well.
If you have stuff to do "3months max" then subscribe for those 3months and then quit. As long as you enjoy those 3 months, who fucking cares ("had a lot of fun")? But I'm really interested "compared to other MMOs it doesnt seem like I have much stuff to do at higher levels except PvPing & grinding for gear". What MMOs do you play - and what other things do you have to do in those?

Actually the game will NOT be region locked "I'd like to recap on a few other key questions and answers: There are no plans to 'region lock' or 'IP block' players from the game. You may experience some latency issues if you're not playing in a launch territory."
source: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=417505
I heard some people got stuck on Taris way too often(happened few times to myself only, but it happened in other places too) and in some cases /stuck not really helping either(after which you do /stuck the map goes apeshit) so yeah there are problems which are beyond swiss cheese at this point. Honestly, if BioWare can get rid of these things during these few weeks I could see bright future for the game. However since everything is VA'd I actually think it will be a lot of time between major patches, what happens between those remains to be seen.

I don't really think voice acting would slow down the development process. It's just another department that works simultaneously with the others, and they don't try to match lip movement with the words, or at least didn't look that way in the beta. Voice acting doesn't take that much time either, actors can crank out an enormous amount in a few intense sessions.

It does cost $$$ though to hire all those people for all those conversations. It's a place they allocated resources because they though it would be worth it. I'll agree with them, the conversation-style quests instead of text boxes makes it a lot more engaging and I find myself roleplaying with my character (mainly trying to be an asshole as a sith sorceror).

Ya, it definitely effected the way I played the game. In WoW i would just turn on instant quest text and rely on the map to take me places, oblivious to the story in pursuit of the next level so I could endgame sooner. I feel like TOR is going to be as much about the journey to the endgame as what to do once there, making alts more enjoyable.
As far as it being expensive, I don't think the game will do anything but make them massive amounts of money.

Well, you seem to play it quite a bit, and you must be insanely lucky to not be annoyed by the bugs and interface in that game, since I played it (30 h more or less) and even I found the game entertaining, I was really annoyed by those things. Much more than in this game (in witch I did not encounter any bugs the whole time I played (under heavy server load and around the same play time).
You also found this game bland and not worth it story wise, tho I personally found both of my class story lines for the 2 classes I played more enveloping than drangonborn storyline in Skyrim, and that's not just me, a lot of players and people reviewing it find the Skyrim's story it's weakest point.
Sorry if this all seams creepy, but you are relentlessly bashing something I like, I'm bored and I wanted to know why.

You're comparing an experience in Skyrim, what is supposed to be a singleplayer RPG and can be heavily personalized with mods and is really only supposed to last ~40 hours or so, to SWTOR, an MMO with millions of people playing at once, a game in which I am expected to pay $15/mo ($180/yr) along with $60 initially, and another $60 per expansion pack that comes out and meant to last hundreds of hours.
They aren't comparable. Please stop comparing them.
EDIT: I also found the story in Skyrim lackluster as fuck. I found it fun as a game, but the story was total ass honestly.
EDIT 2: I hate analogies. I hate comparisons. They really are arbitrary, at best. Let's look at the game for what it is, THE GAME. Not try to compare it to other games and "min/max" the pros and cons between both. It's really silly. Instead of saying "How does this game compare to X?" let us just focus on the game itself. When you start throwing around comparisons, analogies, etc. to something else to compare it to or contrast it to, it loses focus of the actual game itself. Which should be the focus here.

Just thought I would give you an FYI, an expansion costs about 20-30$ on almost every MMO not 60.

Well, most people will play Skyrim for a month, and if they bought it that first month, the majority of bugs and glitches will be there for it.
I fell trough a floor in an Inn, can't remember witch town, and couldn't fix it without loading another save, and wasn't annoyed nearly enough for it to ruin the game for me.
I played trough the game on adept, got all the quest lines I was interested (mage guild, companions, dragonborn, civil war, dark brotherhood) and did it all in 30+ hours, and less then a month, and got the game for 60 €, the same price I will pay for KOTOR, and I fully expect to play 1 or 2 characters to 50 and see if end game content fits for me, if it does not, I'l simply cancel my subcription and be happy with my investment.
|
I have no doubt i'll be playing this game for a long time. I got two characters to 20+ in the last two betas, I havn't had this much fun playing a game since WoW Vanilla/BC and SC2 beta
|
So I got weekend beta access and played to about level 12 or so. Obviously can't make a full judgement about content, but I don't think SWTOR will be enough to get me into an MMO again (played WoW for a couple years). Having an MMO set in the Star Wars universe is probably the best part for me; having a lightsaber, chilling on Corsucant, all that was pretty cool. 15$/mo. subscription ultimately kills it though, I don't want to commit to having to play a game all the time to justify the money. BW should have gone with a League of Legends style microtransaction system for cosmetic content; they would still clean up and also avoid putting the entire success or failure of the game on the line within the first few months. It will probably have more success than other WoW competitors based on Star Wars IP, but I doubt a lot of people will continue to play once they get through the leveling process once or twice. WoW was the exception to the norm, it didn't create a new finance model for game devs to try and follow.

These kinds of glaring issues should not be in the game still =/ Ok, I watched the video, the only thing that it did for me is to get me pumped to play a commando. Footage seems like it's around lvl 20 +, to witch no that many people got, and that kind of graphic glitches + animation stutters happened to me even in wow after 7 years of development, it's normal for a MMO that big. I don't get why you are on a such a crusade on this game. So, I was curious, because I played skyrim, found quite a bit of bugs and things that drove me mad there, and you seemed like a guy who played it so I browsed your post history and noticed that you happen love it. Just thought I would give you an FYI, an expansion costs about 20-30$ on almost every MMO not 60. I went to Gamestop the other day to return some old Xbox games, and I saw Cataclysm. Not the pack, just Cataclysm* and it was $36 on sale, so long after it's been released. That's crap and you know it. http://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Cataclysm-Pc/dp/B002I0HKIU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322700780&sr=8-1Yep, total crap. Gamestop is ripping you off man! Dont go there! I don't think you know how to into sales. You should learn though, that limited time 40% off deals don't make a substantial argument
you claimed its over 60$ and 40 $ on sale and he showed you its actually 25$ on sale and 40$ normally. so averaged his 30$ are more on spot than your 60$.

Okay. Let me rephrase my statement then.
I don't think this game should have its content compared to a game which only costs a one time deal of $60, when it itself costs $60, plus $180/yr, and $40 per expansion. With that level of cost, the expectations should be significantly higher.

For most people $15 a month is a very affordable expense and you do not need to be playing every waking hour to get your money's worth.
