the e3 trailer was stunning with great atmosphere, references to Icarus/Daedalus/renaissance and a buff protaganist (after the failure of Alex. D in invisible w.)
I also like that its a prequel so it might work like episode 3 of star wars did
bit worried about them going gung-ho on the shooting but we'll see
Square Enix hopes to release multiple Deus Ex games if franchise reboot Deus Ex Human Revolution performs well.
"We have dozens of IPs, some of which we wish to build into franchises," Square CEO Yoichi Wada told MCV.
"Deus Ex 3, for example, is something we're trying to revive. We want to keep on producing profit from that IP for the next ten years."
We've only seen a slice of what Deus Ex: Human Revolution has to offer, but it already looks like the most refreshingly open-ended RPG-FPS in years.
Despite the troubled launch of Final Fantasy XIV last month, Wada also said, somewhat unsurprisingly, that the franchise will continue to expand.
"Final Fantasy has always been a bread-earner for us. It has always been profitable. Of course, we would like to be expanding on those two key IPs [Final Fantasy and Deus Ex), and others that are very strong to us.
"We would like Final Fantasy to continue as long as there are the customers who support Final Fantasy."
Deus Ex is possibly the best solo game that has been seen on the face of the Earth ; which is why DE3 may force me to get a next(well I guess current now)-gen console if it's anywhere close to the original one.
So far i think they are pumping a lot of resources into making this game a proper successor to Deus Ex 1. I love the music, very reminiscent of the original music. And the sarifindustries website is just awesome, makes the game world more real to the player.
but what i don't get is why have the pre-order guns only available from pre-order? So the original game wont' have a grenade launcher? or controlled detonation devices? Why not make it available to everyone ... it sucks to have a feeling that you can only have one type or the other like grenade launcher or the double barreled shotgun. I want them all!
Holy crap! This is huge! I haven't played Deus Ex in over 6-7-8 years (??) Found the invisible war successor really bad. I guess there's some good in the recent "only make successors/revive old franchies" trend in the industry nowadays.
I just hope this isn't cutting into the actual production budget.
Didn't the creators of the original Deus Ex do a similar thing before release? I hope I'm correct, because then EA Montreal (that's the developer, right?) is paying attention to what the first game did....which is a very good thing. A little part of me died inside when I heard of a cover system, and the auto-healing. Also when learning about the choices, it sounded like it's going to be "Choose A: Stealth, B: Combat, C: Diplomacy. That simple with almost every choice (I really hope they pull it off though).
One thing that is good is that most of the game will be played in the first-person. Which means in non-combat situations (which hopefully is a lot) it's going to be good. No Warren Spector is troubling though. Even though Invisible War wasn't too great, he is the only person so far that has been able to create an amazing Deus Ex (not that there are more, but you get the idea).
EDIT:

Now your computer might be to good. It's super hard to make it work on my computer, because my processor runs the game at 3x the speed! I can use extremely annoying to input cheats to slow-mo the game down to normal level, but as I said....they are extremely annoying to input....

Jesus christ dude, u have to experience the ending, it's epic as fuck.
On topic, I'm shaking in my boots about this. About 3/10 times the hyped sequels turn out good. But we can only hope. Come on Deus Ex 3...show us how a proper RPG FPS is supposed to be...show all the bioshock fanboys that it's really a piece of crap compared to what you offer...
Some of the videos are looking really promising, and I agree with the other guy about the music. It's sounding great.
The pessimism towards DE3 is pretty warranted given the debacle that was IW. If IW didn't have the DE brand, it would have been well received, but DE is critically acclaimed and the sequel had a lot of expectations riding on it.
The interviews and gameplay videos I have read suggest to me this is a studio that is very conscious of the reception from longtime DE fans and they are aware of the things that made IW a failure, but at the same time is making a game with modern mechanics (cover system).
BTW, the jacket that Adam Jensen wears is fucking sick.

Did you play IW? that wasn't a good game at all. I don't even want to get started on the plot or the bugs or the levels design or the long loading, crappy textures, shared ammo pool, horrible ai, and other "features" of that game.
Deus Ex by all rights should be a dead IP that no studio would want to touch with a ten foot pole. The fact that they're making after so many years tells me that they are fans of the series themselves and that gives me hope. Obviously we're not getting a Deus Ex sequel here in the traditional sense, so like everyone should I'm waiting for the reviews.

YES I played IW. It is only "terrible" in the eyes of people who really compare it to the original because it is nothing like the original. It should have never been made tbh. Crappy textures, horrible ai and bugs were all part of the original game. Fans of the orignial didn't like IW becasue it was DIFFERENT and not was not even made for the xbox.
IW would have been looked at a lot differently if it was never part of the DE franchise. Just viewing the game on it's own, its honestly not that bad compared to other console FPS from 2004. I still enjoyed it on its own merit (but substantially less than the original, which remains my favorite game of all time).

I agree, it wasn't that bad, it wasn't anything GREAT like Deus Ex 1 but that doesn't mean it was a BAD game. I think those that think it is terrible don't really remember what IW really was like.

No, it was just plain terrible, the worst example of a PC game eviscerated by trying to make it console-native. I purchased DX2 despite hearing the rumors of badness, and realized the horrible truth before I even installed it. Eventually I got into the game with no amazing expectations to be shattered, and I was utterly underwhelmed at the tiny claustrophobic levels, uninspired settings, characters I didn't care about, and complete disconnect from the original game in every way.
It was at best a mediocre FPS that never would have sold many copies. It wouldn't have been hated, but as a successor to DX, it was a monumental failure deserving of ridicule.
Deus Ex 3 looks unfortunately closer to Invisible War than the original, which is what really makes me concerned. One of the red flags is the continued involvement of console development, but the biggest reason is that it's a completely different, unproven developer.

Yes but Deus Ex is still probably one of the best games ever made. IW isn't.

Nope they didn't like it because it was worse than Deus Ex which is really sad for a sequel. A sequel should always be better than the original. Or at least try. Who wants mediocrity ?
That's also why i feel that Deus Ex 3 might be a letdown. Really few people understand why the first game is great and i'm still not convinced that the guys at Eidos Montreal do.
If you ask people why they think it is a great game they will tell you "because of the story", " because it is FPS with stats so it is also an RPG " ( Like if an RPG needs stats lol ) or " Because you get augmentations". Basicly what they are describing is Mass Effect or Fallout 3, not Deus Ex. The reason why Deus Ex is great is because it has a strong plot like a linear game but you still have some freedom without being a complete, dull, bland and stupid open world CRPG.
I would like Deus Ex 3 to expand further this concept. More Lebedev dilemmas, the possibility of a complete "bad" playthrough or things like Paul helping you in the Versalife mission after you have saved him in NY. If Deus Ex 3 has those it will still be an amazing game even if I hate auto heal, the covert system and all the consolization bullshit. However if it is a stat fest with cool augs and dumb quests/factions systems like in the others CRPG it will be mediocre.

I agree.

You'll be hard-pressed to find many series that have better sequels than originals. A lot of people consider Half-Life better than HL2, Quake better than Q2, SC better than SC. IW obviously was a letdown to many fans of original. The developers never set out to make a better game, but even they did I feel the game would still not be accepted. Unfortunately, so many people already dismiss DE3, but I understand that feeling. I was skeptic at first but from what I have seen, there is hope DE3 will be a good game despite cover system, regenerative health and some other modern console FPS mechanics.

I agree. Deus Ex was the only FPS game from that era (that I remember) that actually gave you freedom. The pacing, story, customization, rpg elements made the game so good, but the ability to tackle a situation with an incredible variety of options set DE apart.

Meh, they are different games, made from a different developer, made for a different system. IW is not a great game, just an average one that imo receives far more hate than it really deserved. In an era of bad Halo ripoffs, IW was actually an FPS that stood out on the consoles. I thought it was a decent game I had fun playing, but wouldn't ever replay more than once.
