yeah, its an awesome game, the only thing shit was the actual boss fight. didnt mesh well with the spirit of the game at all.

Hacking minigame is amazing.
People who say it is just a reload fest haven't realized you can activate more than one node at a time.
Dont judge the games graphics since the leaked version of the game is bugged in that it doesnt allow you to change the games settings. No Shadows should have been a tell that this was the case.
I didnt mind the boss fight since it was ok difficulty even on hardest and the only thing that made it irritating was the fact that I was going for a non lethal kill. Lol how that turns out.

If anyone is unsure of whether to buy it or not I would suggest waiting for Totalbiscuit's 'WTF is...', He loves Deus Ex and should give some really nice insight. That's what I'm doing anyway, assuming he does a WTF of it that is.
From what I've seen so far, it looks like it could be great, I'm a little worried about level design though.

alright, late to the party and just played through the cracked beta, mixed feelings. the ambience is pretty good, loading screens are ridiculous, and it plays like a console release directly ported to PC.
Again, the game is good, you should try it.
my major gripes are, because it's obviously just a console release at this point, the UI and combat are not crisp at all, and there's a good amount of waiting. also, I can imagine the load screens being a deal breaker for someone with a 5400rpm hdd, considering how much zoning there is. the dialog isn't bad, but apparently parkinson's is an epidemic in 2027. I make it sound worse than it is though, you should play itt.

It's a real shame a lot of games are becoming console ports but I'm still hoping that there's enough awesomeness in the game to outweigh the negative effects of the port.

leaked beta; bugs and not much polish. Mouse smoothing has not been removed from this build yet as it was not intended for mass market. Loading times are usually one of the last things to be optimised in a build, they will be much shorter in retail. I don't really understand why you feel it plays like a console game? Is it the cover system? Because on the back-end they've pretty much covered all the bases in terms of PC options, even if they weren't all functioning correctly in this early build.
e: It's not even a port, what are you guys talking about? An studio which is affiliates with Eidos Montreal (Nixxes software) is doing the coding for them since they do not have the manpower to do it themselves. The same creative vision, and open gameplay is in all versions. This is actually a better scenario for PC gamers because we get a developer writing our version who has a good track record of creating games on the PC. Their other projects felt like PC games, when they were multiplat just like DXHR. We even get our own features and harder difficulty settings in the PC version.

supposedly prey 2 is actually maybe going to be like that.

The demo is fucking good, better than deus ex 1 without being able to compare the actual story (most important part, but still).

You eventually get to roam around detroit and stuff and that is sort of sandboxey. Also I have noticed that every single person outside the main starting area are quite susceptible to bullets. As in like, you kill them and they are gone, forever, as in really dead, they are not coming back.

have you played it? unless you really want to convince yourself otherwise, every aspect of the UI is tailored for consoles. dialog options are a Dpad. to buy something from a store you have to use wasd. cover systems, yeah. level design isn't that of a PC game.
e: still gonna buy it, i like the game. wasn't expecting something as ground breaking as DE1.

You mean like hacking with the mouse? Drag and drop onto toolbar, hotkey shortcuts to just about everything? Numpad for keycode entry? Any one of a number of other things that are pretty much identical to the first? Level design is IMO superior to the first one if you look around, which i hope you are doing.
First game had hidden entry points, like sewers. Check. Grates and ventshafts? Check. Hidden electrical areas circumvented or accessed by crates? Yup. Destroyable walls? Hell even the first game was sparing in this department. Hackable doors? Yes very. Womens bathrooms, now we got em in every building. Giant boxes in your way movable with increased strength? You betchya.
To be honest I dont have a key on my keyboard not mapped to something. Of all the games to think of as a console port this definitely isnt one of them.
Well what about conversations? Those are mapped out in Alpha Beta Omega format that you can take advantage of in a rock paper scissors format. NPC's are still keen on random events you perform during missions (Stay out of the womens bathroom).
This game has literally everything the first game had and a whole bunch more. Augmentations mean so much in this game and are so important, but to different people! I love the aug that lets you see the cone of vision enemies have. There are dozens of augs and every map is tailored to be taken advantage of by Jensens of different aug sets and no set of augs seem definitely weaker than any other set of augs.
Map design makes you feel like your character is the perfect character every single time and playthrough. With any variation you like.
The story looks to be very promising if one reads between the lines. I highly doubt the entire storyline is going to be about fucking up some mercs who fucked you up. I mean, you are practically told this in the intro.

Wow now I am fucking excited. Decided to hold off on playing the beta because I want the full experience first time. Really happy to read reviews like this, that address specific things I love about Deus Ex

Yeah, I've played it. You do not need to clone Deus Ex to re-create the experience. I really hope you aren't one of those people who consider Deus Ex perfect, there are many flaws within the game. The design is brilliant, yes, and exceeds 99% of games today, but it was far from perfect.
It's a leaked beta. Maybe the dialogue UI isn't final, even if it is, you would class a game as a console game because the shape somewhat resembles a dpad? Honestly?
I'll give you the store one, but they've promised integrated mouse support in the game so I'm going to assume it will be in the final build as well.
Hell, towards the end of Deus Ex the branching of the levels got rather constricted and linear compared to Hell's Kitchen etc. If the beta is anything to go by, it'll take the DX formula, consistently, all the way to the end of the game.

Since this is not longer illegal and Eidos even accepts discussion about the beta in their forums, can anyone pm me a download link for this? much appreciated!
