ok so the perk that gives assault a concealment even if the squad is spotted is cool, right, even in maps where you start out of concealment he is the only one that still has it.
BUT you have to remember that, if you do the slow crawl blue move overwatch out of cover thing like in EW, enemys will get a free move because they "spotted flanked" the assualt
it's bs

nvm it's a bug, preactivated teleporting advent mec for the win
Be nice, buy wards and don't feed double buff.

I'm thinking that the melee movement rework buffs the aliens way more than it buffs you. all that preview stuff where they were like 'hey you can be cool and hit people with a sword' were really just red herrings so no one would realize how painful getting double-dash-stun batoned would be.

I can't wait to start running into chrysallids.

Stun lancers can afford to be suicidal. Rangers cannot. That said, the mid-late tier ranger skills look like they make up for this a ton.

The time limits on commander haven't really allowed me to even try farm extra pods like that. Timed shit is dumb, sometimes there's nothing you as the player can do to help it. If you have 8 turns time and your squad just keeps whiffing 90% shots, then it doesn't matter how many I/I longwar runs you finished, you're good and fucked and none of your own doing.

I haven't really had problems with the time limits in missions. I am wondering whether I'm going to have trouble with time limits on the strategic map, however.

How are there no berets in the soldier customization. I tried to make the NCR First Recon soldiers as sharpshooters, but I had to give them red beanies instead. So lame.

Vipers messed me up bad first time I saw them. Pulled one of my rangers into a fire, that didn't end well.

Sniper has been nice to actually combat Vipers, haven't had much problems with that
Mutton wouldn't be a problem except he had a fucking grenade that blew up half my squad.

Overwatch crawling seems to be a lot worse due to all of the time missions.

got my first bug bug. Controlled a Mech ... canceled enemy turn for like 5 rounds. Good thing though without it I would have been done for. Because earlier my sniper got panicked and threw a grenade into my guys.

In the roughly 29 hours of possessing the game, I've spent just over 15 playing it and still having a blast save scumming my way through a commander run and learning all the neat new things. Game is still fucking stressful enough to make me take a few breaks here and there, but damn if it isn't enjoyable.

I also got RNG'd a black, male/female duo with guile haircut and aviators. They are my favorites.

Having watched enough streams of XCOM2 so far, I'm fairly certain something is wrong with the RNG. There are WAY too many streaks of missing 88-92% melee attacks. If the RNG was "streaky", it would explain part of the combat issues people are seeing.

At the same time, the streaky RNG might actually be intentional. Just so that some missions just have "bad luck" or "good luck".

It's worth it to note that the RNG is seeded based on actions regardless of save files. You can manipulate it by doing different things, but if you save scum repeating one shot over and over, you'll always get the same result. I.E. You save, miss 80% sniper shot, reload, try the shot again, will always fail. But, if you reload, put another guy into Overwatch, or move something, etc. THEN shoot again, the RNG will be reset and you have another chance.

Believe me, I tried repeating a hack that I had a 64% chance to do and failed it 22 times in a row before realizing something was up.

That said, there are absolutely streaks. I remember losing a dude due to an Archon surviving an 80% sniper shot, 75% support shot, and 2 80+% ranger slashes all on 4 HP. But I also remember having one of my rangers dodge an Archon melee attack, Muton Melee attack, and Muton flanking shot all in one turn. So I really can't complain.

best moment so far is having a bs activation on my ranger very far away from my team on a yellow move, he was in stealth mode and I tough it was safe, nope a sectoid and 3 advent stacked in some obscure corner.

Anyway, the guy has no more moves left and is completely surrounded, I'm here thinking "fuck, that was my only ranger that is somewhat trained", then the sectoid mindcontrols him effectively saving his ass. xcom takes away but xcom gifts sometimes too
Be nice, buy wards and don't feed double buff.

I think those guys have an absurdly high chance to dodge overwatch, I've like never hit them with it.

Early game, chopping everything to pieces with swords is so much fun. Don't know whether it will keep working, but it's fun ^.^. (Commander, semi-ironman, save scumming when I die to things I did not know existed).

Engineers seem very very important - If you can afford to buy them, do it. Also, I feel like making equipment early game is a noob trap - you need that money for expanding areas/your base/affording engineers. And, you don't really need it for a long time.

Still havn't bothered to do the first black site mission yet, maybe I should get onto that.

I havn't seen anything really weird with the RNG yet. I did snipe a turret for like 10 turns straight, missing like 15/17 30% shots though, that was fun.

Had my first bug, accidentely set my own soldier on fire(lol). Medipacked him up and was unable to perform any other actions, good thing I didn't Ironman.

Also I seem to research way faster then my supply/engineers can keep up.

on the other hand the optimization for this game seems to suck, random fps drops everywhere and I definitely have the system that should be able to run it at high fps.

then again I suppose that is Firaxis for you.

So just my own speculation based on nothing but the very first few missions about the commander chip

If anyone is familiar with the Mass Effect indoctrination theory it could be like that. The commander was used to simulate thousands of war games, well that sounds like a video game, what if the Xcom 2 is not just an alternate timeline of Xcom 1, but the actual continuation of Xcom 1? It seems to be an underlying subtext in both X1 and X2 that the aliens could destroy humanity if they wanted, but instead are trying to test humanity to achieve a perfect being (at least in X1), but in X2 it could be something else.
