I dunno wtf I am doing in this 1st playthrough to be completely honest. I did good on my 1st terror mission (retaliation) because I triggered the faceless alone without engaging any other aliens, sniper critted him (about the only thing sniper did that mission) and sword finished him off. I did a bee line towards modular weapons and then magnetic weapons just like i'd do with lazers in Xcom1 and tried to focus on $$$ as well as engineers (they were so much more important than scientists in Xcom1), now I figured out how to assault my 1st black site in china (I started in Syberia). I'm just wondering how hard I've fucked myself over on the world map by doing missions and not expanding my contact network.

some maps kill my fps, the "burning" map, the deploy screen. Make my GPU cry for no reason, reducing settings doesnt help either, maybe they have some crazy polygon count on some objects or something.
damn it, heavy supression or demolition, hardest choice yet for me

Such bullshit. Very first mission I sent my Ranger in to break concealment on the big guy. All three of my other guys miss and he ends up marking and comboing to kill. Then one of my other guys panics and shoots another guy.
oh yeah and I decided to play on easy difficulty ^_^

try taking shots that have higher chances, i often have 90 or even 100% hits during a mission since i only take low shots(around 70 and down) if im either desperate or dont have anything to do.
flanking, removing cover with grenades win the first missions.

You can't get better overwatch ambushes than right outside the eye range.

anyone know what the PlusOne is? PlusOne might be free reloads? There is a loot upgrade item for it so it might also be in all standard weapon profiles as 0?

PlusOne is the Chance to do an extra dmg. So 50 = 50% chance for +1 dmg If you set it to 50, your dmg should change from 3-5 to 3-6 in screen.

I dont know what im doing, i can either make contact or gather intel and there are dark events in preperation that i dont see, do i need intel to see them?
Make contact or other missions, gathering intel at HQ is a last ditch resort if you dont have anything else to do (most of the time).
Seeing dark events in preparation is just that - you get a heads up that in X weeks thre will be dark events and when they come up, you can choose which one to do a mission against.
So you can use that information to know what problems you will face in a few weeks and prepare.

Holy shit specialists are amazing. On one mission I hacked a turret, a MEC trooper and got 2 kills with the droid electric prod thing when things were looking iffy. I got 2 specialists now, one going 1337 h4xx0r skill tree, the other going full medic. Shame I have to keep rotating them due to wounds.

Just cleared Blacksite after unlocking T2 armor and most T2 weapons, immediately got an Avenger defense mission. I am not ready for this mentally. Luckily there is auto-saves (Yes I am save-scumming but I don't care)
Screw Cortexes (or w/e the plural of Cortex is). If you don't manage to kill them on their turn through overwatch traps or with high-damage shots, they will cause lots of nuisance for you. And that's before their ability to AoE disable weapons into AoE attack. Luckily though Run'n'Gun is a good counter to this (It doesn't say so in game, but it behave like "Get 3 actions this turn, but spend at most 2 on moves")
Grenadiers are awesome in the early game. I cannot stress how often they have saved my life.

Haven't played much so far, but the video issues everyone has been saying is annoying, even though I probably have a pretty outdated PC, still not great to have 10-20 FPS gameplay.
Otherwise pretty nice game so far, despite the timed missions complaint which I'm afraid to see soon enough. Had to save scum twice already, while accepting 2 soldier deaths for it

Time limited missions are the biggest bullshit and I can't wait until someone mods that shit out of the game. Losing a fucking 12 turn limited mission by 1 turn because I missed >>>>8<<<< shots at 90%+ on flanked enemies is such abominable amount of BS that it can die in a fire.
|
Did you actually miss 8 90% shots in a row ? I thought I had it bad with my 4 80% misses in a row ...
That's pretty bs indeed lol
|
Well that's not even counting the overwatch shots I missed of which I can't tell the hit %. Also, I have never succeeded hacking anything on the maps that wasn't the 100% mission objective.

I think forgoing radio shit is a strategy trap
on my first save (just restarted) my starting location and the advent blacksite facilities were literally on opposite sides of the world, and if u don't take it out in a timely fashion the advent clock just goes up insanely fast
and u get a lot of bonuses the more regions u establish contact with

The actual combat feels easier than XCOM EU/EW. You get rewarded for using an "anti Beaglerush" playstyle, which is exactly how the game should be played. The economy is still a mystery to me. Need more playtime to figure it out and I have probably screwed myself allready in my current game.

yeah time to start over i think, radio is like sattelites and i basically didnt build any, rip me.
How do i tell how much armor an enemy has? my attacks did lower damage on some guy, but i didnt see any indication of armor, i thought maybe its displayed on his hitpoints.

I missed the first dark events mission and had to reload. I thought I had time but the missions disappeared in a day or two.
Also, it seems like that ingame ufopaedia is really terrible. It doesn't list the stats on anything. On my second mission, I my troops didn't fire on overwatch after I broke concealment. I tried looking up what I did wrong but couldn't find it.

Classic - non Ironman (fuck that, without saves I would restart every 20 minutes, I'm bad), just had my first encounter with the stunrod guys.. Dude hopped over a train, dodged 4 overwatch shots and killed the one Rookie I had with me, second guy came in and hit my Grenadier who fell unconscious and from there everything went to hell.
YaY, I'm gonna go to bed now...
