That might be it That's for pvp, it's not really possible to have a pet <30% permanently in a raid.

Is it even possible to regularly get it there, with the 90% less damage from AOE?
|
With Soul Link and encounters with heavy DoT damage it certainly is. I know my pets died regularly on heroic/mythic Butcher if I kept Soul Link. They also used to die a lot on Maidens until they fixed turrets.

Soul link is a warlock ability though? :0

Yeah, but I guess it's because we're on the subjects of pets in general taking damage on raids, not just Hunter pets.
While we're talking about warlocks - I'm currently leveling one and it's 92, but I've only ever played destro for MoP raids and some demonology for leveling. From the previous posts, I'm assuming that demonology is the superior spec for 99% of the fights, affliction for single target and destruction is... somewhere far below. Can someone explain why?

Well, after solo grinding 6k rep for the Arrokoa Outcasts, I joined a couple groups and knocked out the last 20k rep in about 3 1/2 hours, finally getting the Talon King title, the tabard, and (eventually) the mount.
In other news, I hate apexis crystals.

The gap isn't as huge as logs are making it out to be, frankly the two reasons demo is so far above the others is: a) it's considered more fun/complicated/involved and b) Since the demonbolt nerf (before that demo was ludicrously far in front of the other two on single target fights) the mobility that is now available pushes it to be picked by near everyone.
Also cataclysm is a hell of a spell.
Having said that, the way that gosac scales means that destro will presumably be in front of demo and aff in the next tier if there aren't wonky tier set bonus's/nerfs.

Demo has great burst and mobility, while still doing as much single target dps as Aff or Destro, and better aoe than both (except maybe Destro with Charred Remains and 4set, if you need sustained aoe).
Affliction only has good damage on 1-2 targets and terrible aoe, but again, Demo is (slightly) better still, especially because it's more mobile.
Destro can be strong on some fights where you can either abuse Havoc (Blackhand, Imperator) or Charred Remains (Kromog, you can aoe chaos bolt all the hands and it's hilarious), but it's pretty situational and it is probably the least mobile spec in the game.

Speaking of pets, I want to level some pets to 25 and see what the hubbub is all about. Is there a particular guide or method you guys used to make levelling fast and fun?

I think there's been links to a guide on wowhead for battlepet speedleveling.

I actually forgot about battle pets until after playing for several weeks on WOD launch. Did they never implement battling other players (for during raid breaks etc)?
It seems like there are kinda some balance issues overall, as i've heard some of the most powerful pets are cash shop or even unobtainable

Na pet shop pets kinda suck issue is the good pets make games last for like an hour so its utterly pointless unless you run a cockroach in which case its just waiting for the inevitable
I think pretty much everyone runs the green proto drake / magical crawdad combo at the very least
