Good lord that was a beatdown. I'm gonna buy a PS4 just for that. The next gen console that doesn't fuck with me? Sign me up.
I'm not even a fan of either side, I just get what works. The PS2 was pretty much my ideal console, but i use an xbox 360 because the PS3 suffers from performance issues (certain games like Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 even suffer from dreadful processing lag - the game literally stutters and slows down). Working with a PS3 basically killed that console for me, there were so many things that were simply broken because 'lol PS3' and its random-ass constant memory leaks.
Even IF the PS4 has these problems, the key points they addressed today are enough to convince me. And the delivery helped

Urghh... I've seen a lot of games like the division come and go with some terrible terrible server decisions. You can't go eve style single shard because you're not Icelandic viking badass's with experimental tech that you invite companies to bring their gear to get burnt out with. You can't split up the servers into a million different shards and not have the danger to have any real gameplay. you can't split up the servers into a few dozen to encourage more population because of spikes and downtimes will ruin the experience.
MMOFPS is a really really big densely packed minefield of suck that you have to go though before you get to the promised land. Bungie basically invented the modern fps game so they probably have the best chance of making it work. But I'm not ready to bet on anyone yet.

I just saw the FF versus XIII / XV trailer.
God fucking dammit. That looks shit compared to the hype i expected from versus, also why the fuck is it main branch now? Thats a fucking action game dammit.
All that tells me is that i need to give up on square enix (R.I.P Squaresoft) and hope to god someone else picks up the baton for epic traditional JRPG's on the modern platform, so much potential and NOBODY has bothered with it

I'm looking forward to ALttP2, Pikmin 3, Smash bros, and Pokemon X Y. Being part of the speedrun community, I get to be reminded of great nintendo classics all the time. But it also sucks that nintendo is screwing over LPer's and nintendo speedrunners who gain revenue from ads. I most likely won't buy any consoles at all though. Not much money + school + work + I play SC2 mostly.

Sony clearly nutpunched Microsoft with this entire console war. The PS4 is cheaper, has better hardware, and no restrictions.
As for games, I think Microsoft's lineup of launch-window exclusies might be slightly stronger, but long-term, Sony's first party developers and games in the pipeline look far superior. Killzone and Halo are more or less a wash for me; 343 has degraded Halo to where it really doesn't separate itself from Killzone in any way anymore, it simply has more name-brand because of Bungie's success.
Beyond that, Titanfall looks solid, Quantum Break showed well, and Project Spark has a nice nugget of originality but the question is whether or not it's going to turn out too gimmicky. Getting Dead Rising 3 was a big coup for Microsoft, but I've personally never been big on those games (though 3 looks like it will be a bit of a reinvention).
On the PS4 side, InFamous 3 looks great. The Order: 1886 is being developed by a very reputable studio (Ready At Dawn = ex-Naughty Dog/Blizzard people) so I have faith in it. I assume KH3 will be exclusive, but it may not be released for 2-3 years. That trailer looked pretty raw. Is FFXV going to be exclusive?
Long-term, I love where Sony stands given that they have, in my opinion, the best development studio in the world as a first-party in Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog by themselves will sell PS4's eventually to people who are on the fence or want to wait to pick up a next-gen. And then they have other proven studios too, such as aforementioned Ready At Dawn, which is already creating a new IP for the platform.
In the end, the big multiplatform third-party titles will probably play better on PS3. And there will be a lot of them coming up: Games like MGSV, Destiny, The Division, Watch Dogs, TES:O, Dark Souls II, AC4, BF4, CoD, etc.
Also, I'm really looking forward to Transistor. Bastion was the shit

They've done it before, Dirge of Cerberus anyone> Doesn't mean they're never going to make a JRPG again. Everyone is tired of the 13 storyline and Lightning. It was bad and they just kept trying to make it longer. It's better off as it's own game. They've also got ff14 still in the rework and if they manage to capture the ff11 crowd again then it only goes up for square enix.

Massive is a great studio that is coming off of huge success with Far Cry 3. They probably know what they're doing. Furthermore, TES:O is going to be single-shard, according to the devs, so the technology for stability must be there. And they announced that while basically at the same time saying, "having multiple servers as well as launch problems isn't fun, and we're trying to fix that."
Lastly, they've been saying specifically that Destiny is not a dedicated MMO game in the way that it appears the Division is. We'll see, it looked pretty MMO-ish to me in that gameplay demo.

I feel like there really weren't many good games shown today that were for people that aren't interested in online co-op :\
I feel like they always show off co-op junk at these events, because it's "cool". I'm pretty sure you can play Destiny as solo as you want, for example. Also, the Division obviously has PvP gameplay, even though their demo was co-op in nature.

Outside of Halo and Dead Rising fanboys, I don't even see a reason to go nuts over the exclusives. Titanfall and Quantum Break looked nice, but didn't look like console sellers to me.
And anything Naughty Dog eventually makes will be ten times better than any XB1 exclusive. So yeah.

I always found Playstations to be best consoles of their generation for my own use, Xbox is mostly sold for western kids who don't have a gaming PC and want to play online console FPS, which Xbox indeed does do better than Playstation. Otherwise Playstation dominates game selection so hard.
PS4 easy purchase for me, never switched to Xbox camp in the first place. Personally I find having a gaming PC + current gen Playstation is a perfect combo for gamers. Wii is for casuals who buy the cheap gimmicky system yet buy no games for it, and Xbox for the gamers without good PC's.

Dirge of cerberus was never made into a main-branch game, it was an action spin-off to a much loved series. (FF7) It worked. This is an action spin off inserted into the main branch of an RPG genre range of titles.
FF11 was a fluke and will not be recaptured with FF14, it failed so horribly they shut it down and remade it into a slightly better standard MMO, its going to be like the many hundreds of wow clones out there, f2p in a year. Its also got nothing to do with what ive spoken about, their foray's into MMORPG's are besides the point of their main-branch of JRPG's.
The last time they made an actualy JRPG was 2000, with the release of FFX (and X-2, i assume 2002), FF12 was different, FF13 and now FF15. 11 and 14 are MMO's which dont count.
They abandoned their tried and tested JRPG formula thirteen years ago and have been on a downhill spiral ever since, they use their brand-name that was built up on a completely different genre to the shit they promote nowadays. If they went back to making what they know best - JRPG's, they would be hugely fuckin popular again, because they know how to make them, imagine the possibilities of a game like that on modern day consoles.
Now they try and put out drivel like FF13 and this crap as their RPG's.

Well the Xbox was also a lot cheaper than the PS3, I've always enjoyed sports and racing games on consoles so it just became the console of choice to play those games on for me. The PS3, I feel, has always had the better exclusives, but it continued to be expensive for a very long time and unlike the money I spent on my Pc there is no RoI.
The fact that MS decided to make their new console more expensive than the PS4 is already a nail in the coffin for a lot of people and myself especially.

One new Zelda/Mario Cart game is better than all the crap I've seen till now put together.
EDIT: Actually Nintendo announcing they have bought Rare would win them the console war.

I share your dissapointment about the fact, that FF shifts further and further away from their original roots. For me, the true FF saga ended over a decade ago with X. XII was a really good game, but did not have the FF feeling, if that makes sense.
However, it is a pretty big exageration that nobody has done anything notably in the JRPG field in the last few years.
Namco, one of Square´s biggest rivals in the JRPG genre, was in my eyes on point with their latest main titles Tales of Vesperia + Graces (f) and if the japanese critics are anything to go by, the (in NA and EU) upcoming titles Tales of Xillia I+II will deliver once more.
The Atlus studio, who gathered a lot of attention with the title Catherine lately, are of course best known for the absolute great Persona series (can´t wait for Persona 5 ^.^) and then there is Level 5, who IMO published the best JRPG of the current console generation: Ni no Kuni.
Regarding the two press conferences, I have to say that Sony perfectly capitalised on Microsoft´s stupid ideas and seem to be miles ahead in the current "war". For me personally it did not change much, though. I intented to get the new PS anyway.
The biggest deciding factor for me is and probably always will be exclusive titles and in that field Microsoft was IMO always behind Sony and especially Nintendo. They never really managed to establish strong running series outside Halo.
I won´t get the PS4 at release, though. Like in every generation I will wait one or two years. By then, the growing pains will be erased, the price could very well be lowered and the developers will have had enough time to build a sustainable games library to choose from. I´ll probably buy it, when the before mentioned Persona 5 will be published, which is sheduled for 2015.
