There is ton of good JRPG company beside square enix. The Tales series by Namco Bandai has probably the best jRPG combat. There is also Persona and etc etc. It is just that Square Enix has gotten a strong grip on the JRPG community in USA due to how successful FF7 was and from there on they continue to monopolize the JRPG in the United States. Now that their hold on this monopoly is starting to waver, it time to open people eye to other great JRPG. Recent good JRPG are any of the recent persona, Tale of Grace F and their up and coming Tale of Xillia, and Ni No Kuni. The graphic are not as mind boggling as Square but that is Square style and what make them able to distinguish themselves.
Think of Square Enix as this sexy girl in ton of make up you are dating. Over the years it start to show and the make up just arent working anymore. You eventually find out that she is not as great as you think and soon her personality starts to change. You decided to finally call it off on a very long relationship. Although heart broken, you begin to see that there are more fishes in the sea and they too also cherish what you have hold dear but are you willing to take the big step and take the chance to get to know them or continue to compare them to your ex and not see the beauty that each of them has.

Square was never the same after that animated movies Final Fantay: The Spirit Within which end up a failure and forced Sakaguchi out of the company and got merge with Enix (that was right after FF10). Thats why we see such a change in style in FF12(which still a great game), and further from their root in FF13.
Without Sakaguchi at the helm, I doubt FF series will ever regain its former form. Now SE just leech of the series life until there is nothing left and let it die -_-.

MGS hasnt been PS-only since MGS1, and that was because it came out on the PS1, at which time the xbox didnt exist.
Your saying "Kojima should suck it up and stay on the PS4" - Why? why in the living fuck would a games developer company do this without massive bucks from sony to remain exclusive when they can make twice the cash doing it otherwise?
A console having a franchise (e.g nintendo's zelda) doesnt make a game any less great, it just gives you a forced-reason to buy that console. This is not a good thing, ever. Its marketing at its worst. Having every game in the world available on every platform is 100% ideal in every situation.
How the hell does a game being multi-platform take the "epic feel out of the game" - Like my last sarcastic post, do you sit in your bedroom raging because all those god damn xbox nerds are enjoying the game too?
The only thing it does is force Xbox users to buy a PS4 to play MGS5 (which any self-respecting xbox user...oh wait..well yeah, they would buy one.) which doesnt affect you.
I literally cant grasp your post at all and it made no sense, still makes no sense and will continue, to make no sense.
ON TO FF BITCHING.
Yeah FF12 was vastly different but a really excellent game, it worked well but after that, the company stopped winning and started digging (its own grave)
Will look up some of the JRPG's you suggest but 1 franchise and 1 singular game (Tales and ni no kuni) do not really prove me wrong, barely anyone bothers with JRPG's and you even admit they dont live up to squares production, somebody needs to step up to the plate imo.
Also non-translated games, i just cant do them anymore like i used to when i was 10 :D
EDIT: And damn this weird non-understandable post guy for making me want to play MGS again.

I liked Versus trailer, but it has been so long since they first announced the game that most of the hype is gone for me.
I still have hopes for it, because it was suppose to be a more dark and mature story, based in reality, that you normally see in FF, together with the fact that Nomura said the combat would be similar to Kingdom Hearts one, but we all know the quality of the last few Final Fantasy games so will see....

I don't know about what you said regarding Sakaguchi though; The Last Story wasn't exactly a shining light for JRPGs...

The last few FF's haven't been lacking for good battle systems IMO.
FFXIII, if you actually played it instead of just hammering X for auto-battling, had a great battle system, in fact it's one of my favourite JRPG battle systems... EVER (and I'm a 29 y.o. gamer who has been playing them since SNES days). It's just too bad that the rest of the game was trash in comparison.

FF13's battle system was balls. Auto-battle was the most optimal way to kill shit. There was no reason to restrict yourself to manually choosing stuff (Especially for the people who are especially slow at the menu screens.)
One thing i learnt about it was that changing roles gave you a full ATB gauge everytime u switched after a full combo. So you could have 2 COM/COM/COM setups and switch between them constantly spamming ruinga with auto-battle.
Thats all the game was, X, X, R1, DOWN, X, X, X, R1 rinse and repeat

auto-battle perhaps was sufficient to trollygag through the games main battles (story stuff).
the most optimal way to kill shit. no fucking way thats just bullshit.
ive played through FFXIII 2 times. first time was for the story right at release, where i did infact go through auto battling and taking it easy through the story. do note however i also did zero side missions on pulse.
the second time i decided to take it slow and opened everything used every skill. and manually using the correct skills often made some fights 2 even 3 times faster. and i dont mean 30% save afew seconds, i mean literately 2-3 times faster.
and another thing, if you think u can get through the game with just two com/com/com setups. YOU DID NOT PLAY. FACT.

Yes when I tried to "play" the game, the combat had some interesting features but most of the game for me was using X, because it was more then enough. I only played the story and didn't do that much side missions and other stuff, which probably requires more then pushing X, but like you said the game has worse things that the combat, so I really didn't feel the need to explore the game, which was a first in a final Fantasy game for me.
But yes, the combat is not the worse thing in FFXIII, I talked about the kingdom hearts combat only because I really like the style of it, not saying the other FF combat system are bad, it is just personal preference.

Is there somewhere I can go that has all the E3 stuff compiled? Clicked this topic hoping to find that! I stopped keeping up with E3 years ago because it seemed to be getting smaller and worse every year, but this is a good year to check everything out I think.

Well, this generation of consoles is still introducing paid multiplayer so I'm still boycotting it. I don't really care that PSN Plus give you free game and stuff, the idea behind it is still wrong to me. Multiplayer should not be a privilege.
|
then you probably boycott console for the rest of your life
multiplayer is better on PC anyway, online multiplayer that is.
|
I also want to mention that the PS4 will not be region locked unlike the Xbox-one .
Haven't seen a mention here yet .

Just woke up and read something. Who the hell at Microsoft thinks anyone would be that stupid to buy a XBone? Especially when its ~650$ in Europe.
I don't care because I'm smart and will never play on a Casual-Console. But I hate Microsoft more than Sony, so I like to see them fail that hard.

Well, I still have a N64 ! Been away from consoles ever since so yeah.
The other thing not helping is that firms can't do simple math. 399$ = 300€.. not 399. -.- These things console people seems to let go and agree upon.. but seriously..

A pair of nice multiplayer games (SSB + something like good party, kart, platform, btw say a pair, rest will be mediocre), about 4 tier-S aventure-platform games (2 Zeldas, 2 Marios, but this in the whole console lifetime ¬¬"), maybe a pair of of tier-S surprise games. And a shitload of mediocre casual games, fun games for a day or two.
That's it.
