XBL is an inferior service but has quite a few more players (I just think that XBL players are more multiplayer oriented, and the 360 has outsold the PS3 until recently).

Based on playerbase alone XBL is much better. PSN+ will get a lot of new players though when most of us switch over.

I didn't count wii sports as...well they're sports
I guess there was pushmo on 3DS and Nintendogs on DS now that I think about it more. Although on consoles it's been a LONG time.

Which isn't a terrible reason...if you're a big enough fan of Metroid, Mario, Smash-Bros and Zelda then that should be enough.
But if you're holding your breath and hoping that the Wii U gets a good enough game library to justify the purchase...history kinda speaks against it.

Dat feel when gamecube is insulted I feel that it is still possible for Wii U to get back in the game. A price cut and their signature series coming out could definitely put it onto the field, and they do have some support from third parties, along with them encouraging indie developers quite a bit. Nintendo still has quite some time before the new consoles come out, so here's hoping they use the time. I really would dislike it if there was only one console in the market.

I don't see why people think that Nintendo is "out of the game". Nintendo has and should always be that reliable developer with the fucking awesome in-house and unique games that keep it a perfect niche for the market. It sure as hell wasn't going to beat the PS1 or PS2, and the only reason it won Gen 7 is because XBox is XBox and the Playstation came out way fucking late. Hell, Nintendo has, historically, been the only company to actually make profit off of selling their consoles, so it's not like they NEED to win.

They just haven't been doing well overall lately which is why they suffer from the doom and gloom. I think last year they reported a net loss and this year, while reported a profit, lowered their sales expectations by about 50%. I personally think they would do much better as just a software developer but, I'm just a dude...yanno...

They were 2.5million Wii U's short of their expectation, and they expect to sell another 9 million this year.
Plus even on the Wii, they had pretty important 3rd party titles from EA, Ubisoft and Capcom. EA and Ubisoft didn't mention them at all.

I'm interested to see how the Gakai Streaming will work in combination with the Vita . If they manage to make Triple A next gen titles playedable on a handheld with that ( the stuff doesn't actually run on the handheld so inferior hardware doesn't really matter ) . The Vita isn't that great by itseelf but with that it becomes alot more interesting at least for me.

Could someone link the games mentioned during the conferences which also show which consoles they're going to?

There was nothing explicitly wrong with the Gamecube. However, if someone had to choose between it or the PS2, the only reason to buy a Gamecube was for the Nintendo franchises.
The Wii U basically suffers the exact same issues of the Wii, without the appeal to the large peripheral market. It's a less powerful system with a required gimmick to program for, something that will always effect the developer appeal. Plus the Wii U is actually sold at a loss, so Nintendo is for once relying on game sales to turn a profit.

Now after this hypetrain has settled down.
Im hella pumped about all these games coming out on these consoles. And since i can get both for under $1000, im going to have a lot of new games to play. Very exciting.

To bring the Wii U's poor performance into perspective, in it's 4th month it sold 55k units:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/pachter-wii-u-april-us-sales-hit-55000-6408342
that's lower than the Wii, PS3, or 360 have ever sold in a month. It's basically rivaling the Vita for horrible sales right now.
edit - another good link on how bad it's been selling: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/02/wii-u-has-historically-bad-january-sells-about-50000-units-in-us/

The VITA could be so much more than just a portable gaming system, i.e. Smartphone, Camera, Social Media, App center etc.
But would require an entirely new design from the ground up. I have a feeling Nintendo will beat them to the punch.

there are a lot of games coming from 3rd parties that we didnt see today that hopefully we will see later in the week. Some games I really want to see some gameplay of are Theif 4, The Evil Within, Dying Light, MGS5, and Deep Down.

Maybe im out of the loop but the VITA and Wii U just didnt seem to get much interest at all, the Wii took it far in terms of strangeness (motion controls) the Wii U is just a fucking oddity that nobody seems to like lol.
and the VITA just seems to have nothing going for it

The Division looks fantastic.
Urghh...

Wii u is just a marketing failure imo.
I have no idea what audience that console is supposed to have. Back in whatever year that was the Wii was released, they conquered the casual market with it. Great. Now that market is a bit saturated. This audience has no interest for the wii u, its almost the same games, its very pricey and the other games (ME3 etc) are "hardcore" games that the audience already have and probably own a PS3 or Xbox for that kind of games anyway.
So yeah neither of the two markets have an interest in the wii u.
The PSVita is almost the same story, but the other way around. When Sony announced it, I was like: looks good, won't sell.

It wasn't too much though, and a lot of it was combat.
