Asia is a bit more rough, I pretty much have only 20k banner infantry which is like the Chinese tech 11 unit, with the rest being horde cavalry | ||

I started as Brandenburg, now Preußen and my allies are France and Russia. I want to declare war on the Hanse and when I do so France says that they will join me in the diplomatic screen (green check mark). However when I do declare war... they wont join me but my opposition! France is not allied to the Hanse. But the Hanse is allied with Austria and Austria with France. But still that shouldnt make a difference right? Ive encountered diplomatic situations like that countless times before and as soon as there was that green mark my ally would always join me and part with his ally should he come to the help of the country I attack...I just dont understand it. Edit: Ok iam even more confused now... when I attack Münster they also agree to join me but join my opposition instead. Like vs the Hanse, they have +121 and -0 reason to join me. Münster and France dont even have any allies in common, theyre not part in an alliance against me...Is this some kind of bug? They just join whoever I declare war on although they are my ally... I dont get it it makes no sense | ||

Other reasons may be defender of the faith, leader of the HRE, guarantees etc. | ||

Hanse and Münster are both catholic while I am protestant. So they will just come and help everyone who is of catholic confession and gets attack by another religion? Even if they hate them and are allied with the attacker? Thats a little to harsh imo. Where can I look up if they are defender of the faith and for how long? | ||

Since they are your ally, you can start any other war they would join and then attack one of the catholic nations. They cant join a war against you if they are already your ally in another war. There are also other ways to get into a war than direct declarations, like enforcing peace. Either your or Austria's good terms with France will probally not last long, alliances are fickle in this game. It will probally want to advance east, and Austria is ussually in the way. If that happens, it can be a good time to pounce and take control of the HRE region. England is indeed quite useless on Europe. Doesn't help that they fight a lot with France. You can even see Scotland holding the GB ocasionally. | ||

I dont get it it makes no sense When an ally of someone attacked is way bigger in terms of military (like 2:1 in terms of troops/manpower) they usually take over the war. Which is probable in the case of Hansa and Austria unless Austria is getting bashed all the time. The scenario you describe is a typical gamble. Depending on who joins the war faster, France or Austria, France will either come to your side (in case they join faster than Austria) or come to their side (in case Austria joins faster->becomes war leader->calls their allies into a defensive war (defensive wars have higher priority for the AI in terms of decision making). Usually Poland, Lithuania and Sweden become protestant (if Sweden becomes independent). The easiest way to solve your situation is to make France loose a war. So just declare war on someone they cant attack but still join against (Rivals of France that are not catholic, Ottomans or Russia for example) and who ideally cant attack you as well (because their relations to their neighbors are bad enough). Then you wait out "length of war", "concede defeat" and they loose defender of faith. France Austria will break over time. France will wanna have the (Austrian) Netherlands which gives you timings in which you can attack Austria before they re-ally again. | ||

Iam also emperor of the HRE (and because I vassalized two of the electors it will probably stay that way). However I dont seem to get much use out of it. Everyone else in the HRE hates me anyways because I am protestant.I have 92 authority but I dont know how to spent it. I was thinking about allying with Austria but I guess my relations to them are beyond repair. | ||
