Of course, no one whines and bitches then. I mean, was that really a play for the ball by ANY stretch of the imagination?
But I don't even think that Lopez should be ejected, it was just a tough play. Players foul all the time and ref miss calls all the time, it's just part of the NBA. If you hate it, just don't watch it. Or at least shut the hell up about it so we don't have to hear everything you don't agree with.
None of this is aimed at you, btw, Bob. Just ranting.
I don't mind hard fouls, but when someone is in the air like that it's much worse IMO. If he just grabbed him before he jumped or evened hacked him hard before the jump, sure that's ok. But when someone is in the air they really can't protect themselves very well and so much can go wrong.
As someone who's played a lot of basketball, it's really the thing you worry about most when going up (getting undercut, push in the back etc). I've had it happen to me before and I deplore seeing it in any game.

Not to be totally cold hearted, but this shit happens all the time. Unless you full on shove someone from their blindside, you're not really going to hurt them. And no one in the NBA is actively trying to cripple anyone. Could somebody land funny and shred their knee ligaments? I guess. But I can't remember an incident in recent memory where anyone was actually hurt by a hard foul in the air.

Well, Bynum was trying to hurt Barea, I think, so yes, that's fair.
Are we talking about when Bogut landed on his elbow? That wasn't really a hard foul, he just landed right on his elbow. I mean..we are playing a contact sport here.
That was actually a pretty decent last shot. Cant believe he got that off so cleanly.
Well yeah, but it was the slightest shove from amare and Bogut landed awfully. That's what people are talking about. If you're in the air and u get fouled the landing can be really dangerous.

It's debateable if Amare pushed Bogut... Some say he did, others say there was no contact. I think Bogut always said it wasn't Amare's fault and he just slipped off the rim after a strong dunk.
That said, the Bynum one was a shocker. Lopez's really wasn't anywhere near as bad, but it's probably because Blake is a big guy who can take a hit. But I'm happy with refs setting a precedent about unnecessary contact while a guy is mid-air like that and ejecting guys for it.
Basketball is a tough game--and should be played as such--but it doesn't need thugish shit like that.

How he has made a team with Martin Gortat as the second best player relevant in a strong Western Conference is amazing.
There is no excuse for not making a play on the ball in the NBA. It's a professional league filled with professional players who should respect each other enough to compete without risking unnecessary injuries and, potentially, endangering each other's careers. There are ways to compete hard without resorting to taking someone out when they're in the air like that. Whatever your feelings are about how Blake plays and how he posterizes people, hitting someone like that when they're in the air and completely vulnerable is flagrant in every way.
